Sorry, Justin Bieber, Even Nintendo Hates You

Obnoxious teen sensation Justin Bieber - or, at least, his people - wanted to use the iconic Super Mario Bros. theme in his upcoming movie. Curiously, Nintendo said "nothankyou.jpg".

Love him or hate him, this kid is one of the biggest things in entertainment right now, and "Never Say Never", his movie/promotion vehicle due to be released later this year will undoubtedly be one of the biggest flicks of the year. At least in terms of money made.

Why, then, is the "film's" director John Chu complaining "aw C'mon Nintendo! Y won't u let us use the Mario theme for 15 secs in the @Justinbieber movie...talk about free advertising passed up. Oops."

You could argue that, having let the Scott Pilgrim movie use the Zelda theme last year, they're being picky with which properties are associated with their brand. Or that Chu is being punished for his atrocious use of "text speak".

Then again, this is Nintendo we're talking about. The same Nintendo who thought this was a good idea.

So who knows! Maybe company president Satoru Iwata just hates Canadians.

Nintendo Says Never To Justin Bieber's 'Never Say Never' Movie [MTV]

I'm happy to hear this, and given the amount of hate there is for Justin Bieber I don't think its a bad decision.

"You could argue that, having let the Scott Pilgrim movie use the Zelda theme last year, they’re being picky with which properties are associated with their brand" - Can't imagine why...

I can see a clear difference Scott Pilgrim vs The World (a movie which was both heavily inspired by and tribute to classic gaming) and Never Say Never (a movie being made as a vehicle to promote the current kid-star of the minute in a frantic attempt to cash in before his audience reaches puberty and decide to spend their money on feminine hygeine products instead). Obviously Nintendo can, too.

Indeed they are extremely different cases.

Not only was Scott Pilgrim an awesome movie (spawned from an even more awesome comic) but it was highly appropriate to feature it.

LoL at the text speak :P

    Pfffttt, who likes Canadians?

Wolverine would like a word with you, bub.

Yeah YAWN someone jumping on the CANADIAN HATE bandwagon. Canada is great. Canadians are great. How could someone dislike Canada I MEAN CMON.

I dont think you know what your talking aboot.

    High five Nintendo.

    @Braaains

    +1 : D

      Agreed, good call Braaains!
      +1 from me too ;)

After It's On Like Donkey Kong™©(patent pending) who knew they still had 'street cred'?

    Nice work, Nintendo!

Besides, I doubt that Justin Bieber's fans are really the target market for Mario games. Now, if they had asked to use the Nintendogs/Imagine theme instead...... (do they even have themes?)

That said, Jedward are pure evil. Possibly even MORE evil than Biebs.

The director of Scott Pilgrim said he shot the scene with the Zelda theme in it then sent it to Nintendo which later sent back the approval.

You know what this probably means? It means the scene in the Bieber movie which wants to use the mario theme was so rubbish that after seeing it Nintendo didn't want to be associated with it. I am so surprised.

Hate to break it to you, but Brian Lee O'Malley and Scott Pilgrim himself are both Canadian!

    So there goes that theory....EH???
