Frozen Codebase fills a gap many of us didn’t realise existed today with the release of Jam City Rollergirls, the first official roller derby console game I can personally recall without the aid of a Google search. The game features five real-life roller derby teams from the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association: New York’s Gotham Girls Roller Derby, Seattle’s Rat City Rollergirls, Austin’s Texecutioners, Milwaukee’s Brewcity Bruisers, and Madison’s Mad Rollin’ Dolls. Gamers can take one of the teams through a full derby season, play head-to-head against friends, or create their own custom skater and build them up until they are ready for whatever passes for the big leagues in roller derby.
If stepping into the role of the world’s toughest, most competitive women isn’t your cup of tea, I’m sure there’s a puzzle game or something more your speed lurking in the rest of this week’s Nintendo Download. Check out the gallery to find out, you pansy.
