Darkstalkers Now Versatile Voice Now Managing Popstars In Heaven

You may not know his name, but if you like Japanese games with mechas, fighters or idols, you probably know his voice.

Earlier this month, Kan Tokumaru passed away. He had been hospitalised and was getting treatment for undisclosed illness. Starting in the 1970s, Tokumaru voiced characters in Japanese anime like Gaia in Mobile Suit Gundam.

Like many well known Japanese voice actors, he also voiced game characters, like the shadowy boss Junichiro Takagi in Namco’s iDOLM@STER games. He also voiced Bishamon, Victor von Gerdenheim, Anakaris and Sasquatch in the Darkstalkers fighting games as well as Oro in Street Fighter III.

Perhaps, whether it’s Tokumaru’s decades-spanning work in Gundam or his more recent iDOLM@STER work, it’s difficult to pin down what role fans will remember the versatile voice actor most for.

Tokumaru was 69 years old. He will be missed.
