Modern Warfare 2 Patched Up To Fix Rampant Hacking On PS3

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward just issued an update to the PlayStation 3 version of the first-person shooter, an attempt to curb rampant hacking in the game’s online multiplayer mode. It appears to be working (so far).

“The Modern Warfare 2 patch to address hacking is now live on PlayStation 3,” tweets Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling, an update to ongoing issues with Modern Warfare 2’s popular and exploit-filled multiplayer mode. “Other platforms pending. Have any problems, please let me know.”

Early word from the Infinity Ward forums are looking positive. Players report that some hacks are still prominent, like clan tag hacks, but major exploits that made games all but unplayable may have been stamped out for now.

Hacking and griefing in Modern Warfare 2 isn’t a recent development, but after the PlayStation 3’s internal security was busted wide open by a group of hardware hackers, problems with the game escalated. Infinity Ward says it’s working with Sony and changing the way it handles security in its future games.

Have you updated to the latest version of Modern Warfare 2? What has your experience been like? Let us know in the comments, please.
