Pre-Order Gears Of War 3 At EB For Beta Access

I have to wonder about beta access to games - shouldn't we be getting paid for this or something? Yet, still - the dangling carrot of beta access has introduced many gamers to top-notch products they might have otherwise ignored - like Crackdown and, more recently, Bulletstorm. But what happens when beta access is used to sell the actual game itself? Is an early glimpse at a game enough to get you to pre-order?

EB has an exclusive offer running at the moment - pre-order Gears of War 3 at any EB store in Australia and gain early access to the public beta running later this year. The public beta runs from April 25-May 15, but if you pre-order you get the chance to play a week earlier, along with the folks that picked up Bulletstorm, and play from April 18.

Is this the kind of deal that'll convince you to pre-order at EB?

More details below.

Published by Microsoft Game Studios, the “Gears of War” franchise has won more than 50 “Game of the Year” awards, sold more than 13 million copies worldwide and redefined the third-person shooter genre this generation. One of the bestselling Xbox game series of all time, “Gears of War” is exclusive to the Xbox 360 and its riveting multiplayer action makes it one of the most popular titles on Xbox LIVE.

Only players with the Bulletstorm Epic Edition can play the beta on the 18th. If you pre-order Gears 3, you get access to the beta from the 25th - not at the same time as Bulletstorm. Pre-ordering Gears 3 is the only other way to get into the beta - so while technically it is public, it isn't open to anyone and everyone.

So, if you preorder, I'm assuming they'll send you a code to download it, which also means you don't need to switch discs in the 360? Sounds good to me - if it was anywhere else other than EB.

Does this mean for us Bulletstorm owners we're gonna have to download the beta from the marketplace after Apr 24?

If you have the Epic Edition of Bulletstorm, you should already have a greyed out option on the game's main menu. On April 18 (first day of the early access for Epic Edition owners - although, it will probably be late at night our time), that option will become selectable and you can download the beta. You'll still need the Bulletstorm disc to access it.

If you pre-order Gears 3 at EB, there's supposed to be a card with the code on it. I don't know if EB stores in Australia will have them yet (or if they'll be doing something different) but I have seen a photo of the beta card online.

Sorry, I think I misread your comment. You won't need to re-download the beta after the early access. You'll be able to get to it through Bulletstorm for the entire month the beta is online.

That's the answer I was hoping for, cheers!

Not enough to make me pre-order from EB that's for sure.

I'd assume like a lot of pre-order betas, you could pre-order. Play Gears3 Beta, than cancel your pre-order down the road and buy Gears 3 from somewhere else.

is this EB new zealand aswell?

    Meh meh meh,

Kinda can understand wanting to beta test an MMO but GoW no not rly.

What about the other Beta bonus' you mentioned in a previous article? Something like 'X' amount of kilss and 100 games to unlock a gold plated lancer?
