Robert De Niro Is Keen For Uncharted Movie Madness

David O. Russell, director of Three Kings and The Fighter, has a kooky idea for making Uncharted into a movie: ditch the game story and make it different. Robert De Niro hasn't read the film's script, but he's hip.

When asked by MTV whether he's interested in the Uncharted flick, De Niro replied, "Absolutely, sure." The respected actor added that he was "aware" of the project, but that he hasn't read the script yet, adding, "I thought he did a terrific [job]in The Fighter."

Russell wants to turn Uncharted into something that doesn't sound like Uncharted at all - flick that follows a family of treasure-hunting, justice-dispensing antiquities experts. The director already enlisted Mark Wahlberg to star as Nathan Drake and wrote parts for Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.

"As far as I'm concerned, I'm very respectful as far as the core content and spirit of the game, but beyond that it's my job as a filmmaker to make what I think is going to be an amazing movie," Russell told Slashfilm. "People have to trust that and let that go, I think." Robert De Niro sure is, it seems.

Then just change the character names and let someone else use the Drake IP. Honestly his ideas and execution may very well be exceptional but if it's not faithful to Drake then it's just a waste.

Smells like a disaster waiting to happen. If you aren't going to pick up the tried and true formula/IP/story of the game franchise, why brand it Uncharted at all? Oh yes, right, its easier to sell shit this way :/.

"I’m very respectful as far as the core content and spirit of the game, but beyond that it’s my job as a filmmaker to make what I think is going to be an amazing movie"

Theres a 1000 movies that could have the core and spirit of the game but not one of them is uncharted

And why does he get to decide what he thinks an amazing uncharted film would be.

It's ironic normally they use the big name to push the movie for somereason they think trashing an awesome game lisence is the way to go.

And the last time i trusted someone to do something right. Han shot Second.

I mean, far out, the director making decisions regarding the movie? What is this? Communist Russia!?

I'm with you man, I say we get all our friends (the ones on PS3 forums) and march to this guy's house and give him a slap around until he agrees that only we, the fans who have no film-making experience but are really opionated when it comes to Uncharted, have the right, nay the privilage, to totally screw up a movie.

Anyway, I'm sorry to take up your important time, have fun judging the movie before you see it. Chances are it'll be better than the games.

That idea, it's so kooky. It's almost like every other video game film adaptation ever.

He also agreed to Meet the Parents and two increasingly painful sequels, and Rocky and Bullwinkle, and Analyse This and a sequel to that. The guys not an unfallible actor.

First Meet the Parent is the best De Niro movie in years. That's the tragedy.

IF the storyline is not similar to the game
the movie will be a dissappointment.
