Robert De Niro Is Keen For Uncharted Movie Madness

David O. Russell, director of Three Kings and The Fighter, has a kooky idea for making Uncharted into a movie: ditch the game story and make it different. Robert De Niro hasn’t read the film’s script, but he’s hip.

When asked by MTV whether he’s interested in the Uncharted flick, De Niro replied, “Absolutely, sure.” The respected actor added that he was “aware” of the project, but that he hasn’t read the script yet, adding, “I thought he did a terrific [job]in The Fighter.”

Russell wants to turn Uncharted into something that doesn’t sound like Uncharted at all – flick that follows a family of treasure-hunting, justice-dispensing antiquities experts. The director already enlisted Mark Wahlberg to star as Nathan Drake and wrote parts for Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m very respectful as far as the core content and spirit of the game, but beyond that it’s my job as a filmmaker to make what I think is going to be an amazing movie,” Russell told Slashfilm. “People have to trust that and let that go, I think.” Robert De Niro sure is, it seems.
