Sony Pulls PS3 Game Out Of Respect For Japan's Earthquake Victims

MotorStorm Apocalypse was delayed in New Zealand because of the country's earthquake. Then it was delayed in Japan for the same reason. Now it's being delayed in the UK, too.

Sony has decided against releasing the game at this time out of respect for those affected by the recent tragedies.

"We are shocked and saddened to see the impact of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and our thoughts are with all those affected, including our colleagues within the Sony family, living and working throughout Japan," a statement released to Eurogamer reads.

"We are very conscious of the parallels between these events and the underlying theme in MotorStorm and are doing everything we can to be as sensitive as possible to the situation.

"Although the game itself is already in distribution, we are ceasing any further shipments and removing as much of the marketing materials as possible."

It will be released in the UK eventually, just... not now. This is one hell of a last-minute delay; I got a copy of the game from SCEE earlier this week, and boxes full of them were already in the pipes on their way to retail shelves.

    That sucks. It's a GAME.

Its nothing to do with respect.

They're holding off the release until those countries have disposable income to purchase MotorStorm again.

i actaully feel quite sorry for the developers of this game... (I of course feel alot sorrier for those effected by the natural disasters). I think that with the way things are at the momment alot of "mature" gamers may actually pass on this game due to the subject matter. There has to be a feeling of guilt enjoying this game on one channel and then being able to change the channel and see individuals and communities who's lives have been destroyed by the very subject matter you were enjoying only a momment ago...

I had wondered, given the timing, if they would have time to pull it in the wake of the Japan quake. I'd have thought that it would still have made it to retail, but then they could have done a 'sorry about that, but now we'll contribute X% of the game's takings to the disaster relief funds'. They already covered their donations though so I guess this [pulling stock] is their best option now.

Maybe they know that the UK is about to suffer a serious quake!

Is the Australian release going ahead this week?

Oh well, at least EA isn't going to get DICE to cut the earthquake from Battlefield 3...

Oh wait, this is the same EA that had the Taliban in Medal of Honor renamed (well I think it was them), and defended MoH with two opposing viewpoints.

    Just Ban it already.
The reent events were tragic but this knee jerk reaction is too much.

So why not out of respect, stop the release any Call of Duty?
