Where’s Mark so he can back me up.
Scotland Public Transport > Australian public transport.
-
But Scotland is so tiny… erm, I mean, ‘snug’, that they can plan it all out really well 🙂
Australian urban public transport is screwed. I know Sydney and Brisbane are bad (haven’t tried them myself) but Melbourne’s is just a monumentally terrible system.
-
It’s more about their roads being so narrow that noone has a car / can park it, so everyone uses the buses / trains.
Everyone uses it so, it’s cheap and if it doesn’t run well everyone complains about it. -
P Transport is quite good in BrisVegas.
The traffic just Fs everything up!!
-
If I didn’t have to get places within a reasonable timeframe I’d totally take the train.
Seriously I live in Geelong, Work in Melbourne, taking the train adds 40 minutes to a 40 minute trip. What with driving to the station, then waiting for the train to arrive, then the inevitable train traffic jam between Nth Melb and Sthn X, then hopping on a tram to get to work
Luckily I’ve been able to drive in the past few years – but I guess that makes me part of the problem.
So, again, big thanks and much goodwill in FatShady’s direction, for the man has shouted us a Teamspeak server to use in our Minecraft tomfoolery. Thanks Shady 😀
-
I know, right?
FatShady, to you I must say that you are:
♣TADMOD♣ SEAL OF APPROVAL APPROVED!
Legendary, mate! 🙂
-
Aww, so now on top of obscure Minecraft references there’ll be in-jokes aplenty.
Well I don’t care, I’m gonna go start my own club. Girls only! So there! :p-
Where the “first lady”
You should be wearing that for a full week!
-
Love your work, but if you had of said ‘No Homers’ i would have lost it!!!
-
-
Might be joining in tonight, we’ll see. Got my Mass Effect Engineer playthrough to do, plus my Lords of Shadow on PS3, then there’s my breakthrough on getting my ps2 working on the new TV (FINALLY! All I can say is thank you component-in and screw you AV!) and I’ve been playing kingdom hearts from the beginning again, I’m so darn rusty on that game lol
-
No probs guys. I just thought it would make life easier if we could talk.
It is now $25pm for the server and $4pm for the teamspeak server. Both are paid up until the end of March.
I will have another think about the cost of it all over the next month and see what people are willing to pay.
So, here’s one heck of a long shot but here goes…
My mum is an avid garage-sale person. She makes lists, gets up at 5am and looks for treasures. Mostly its naff little glass antiques which she collects and has gotten some great deals. Anyways, I have a list of old music-tech gear for her to keep an eye out for. So finally after years of waiting, she hit a jackpot and scored me a Roland Juno 106. For a happy $70!
Man, I’ve wanted one of these forever, so I was fingers crossed when plugging it in. It started up.. So far so good… First 30 minutes its worked perfectly, I had a grin ear to ear. But then, I had dud notes… After testing it out properly, I found its problem to be the 2nd voice IC vca chip. Bummer. It still is able to function with a few work arounds, but I really would like a replacement chip.
So, I don’t suppose anyone has a Juno 106 lying about for spares???
*insert pointless hope here*
-
There is a bloke on ebay who will repair
http://cgi.ebay.com/80017a-voice-Roland-Juno-106-mks-30-GR-700-Hs-60-mks30-/280470305555?pt=Keyboards_MIDI&hash=item414d553b13
or i think this guy makes clones
http://www.analoguerenaissance.com/D80017A/
Hope this helps-
Thanks for finding that handles 😀 This may be the way I proceed forward (I might have to get someone to install it though I think), unless someone has a busted one in a cupboard somewhere to donate for parts 😀
-
Also, from the looks of the wikipedia page, there’s a fairly easy repair method, but it requires knowledge of soldering, so if you have any skills in that area, you might want to take a look.
-
Happy to help.
Makes up for the fact that I NEARLY put up a link about foot controls on your mouse post 🙂
And i mean “nearly” as in i forgot who i was replying to.
Not “nearly” as in as in i’m an insensitive prick.
So jealous bout Dire Straits too!!!!!!-
I would not have minded one bit mate 🙂 I actually have some use in mt right foot, so am still waiting to grab a logitech wheel for gt5 (which is still unopened since xmas) in my cockpit hard-rubbish built simulator. Its just been so hard to find a store with stock and the prices are ridonkulous, so I’m waiting for a cheap 2nd hand one. I’m in no hurry though.

TAY spamming… sorry
UFC 127, I’ve not watched it yet, gah! Please don’t mention if Sotiropolous wins or not!! *crosses fingers*
Soundwave on the weekend. Got to high five rob zombie. Brilliant day all round. Anyone south get a ticket now. Won’t regret it.
@Chul oompa loompa:
I finished reading Crossfire yesterday (yes, it’s been a month in the reading, but I’ve been reading it in between a bunch of other books, so I think I made good time.
I must say, though, I’m very keen to finish the other two books in the series now.
Who knew 40k books would be so darned good?
In other news, uni today, starting at 6 pm 🙁
UTS ftw though 😀
I’m going to use my first lady of Kotaku powers and draw everyone’s attention to something pretty cool.
Our very own Shane(who pops up every now and then) has one of those clickable linky things on his name and it leads to this rather intriguing graphic novel he’s creating: http://shanewsmith.com/thelesserevil/
-
So far so good…
-
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!
This comic is good! Was boring me at first cos I’m not a big fan of the 3D model stylings, BUT after reading I started to see the excellent body language in use.
And the writing? Great dialogue excellent political drama
IM LOVING IT!
-
-
Thanks for the mention, First Lady! My Lesser Evil site has had more hits today than it has in the 18 months it’s been going.
Were it up to me, you’d be Community Kudos’d again this Friday. Just so you know.
Jimu, glad you’re enjoying it! I’ve been thinking of putting up Chapter Three for quite some time – maybe I’ll do that now I have a reader. 🙂
-
If you ever want to write something stupider, with monkeys…can I draw it?
-
Please do!!!
-
Nohandle, I send you email and it was deeeeeniiiied.
Did you get the second one which would have made far less sense without the first?
-
Got it and replied 🙂
Thanks mate. Did you know that they also come in Ultimate Collections (2 vols into one book)?-
Yep, thats kinda what those HCs I got are.
They didn’t exist back when I bought these.
I prefered singles back then, only bought the trades to fill the gaps cos issue 1-20 of USM is quite expensive.Considering getting the next to oversized HCs, don’t need em though as I have the singles from there too #110.
-
That sounds wrong. By “these” I mean the soft covers I have!
-
-
Got my mate to pick up my two USM OS HCs from the PO the other day.
Went round to his house to pick up after work and his roomate was playing PS2. Had a HUUUGE pile of PS2 games he’d been given or gotten cheap.
Looking through the pile, plenty of gems:
MGS2
FFX
FFX-2
Random Dynasty Warriors
other stuff I can’t remember…
But I did find Shadow Hearts 2 in the pile which I have been dying to play and have borrowed it.
By the time I finally put the game in I was rather sleepy and after sitting through 15-30mins of intro cut scenes I finally got to the game.
Seems promising, was too tired to handle the fight system. Timing things is not my forte when sleepy!
Will give it more of a go later in the week!
Just wondering if anyone knows of a mouse with a thumbstick in position of the left click button. It would still be clickable, but then you would have wasd controls all on the one mouse. Sure, it might take some getting used to, but one handed mouse fps-ing would be the ultimate in accuracy and laziness leaving one spare hand in which one can feed chips, scratch, etc.
I’ve finally broken my gaming drought!
After grabbing the adorable Tiny Wings for my ipod on Friday I felt the gamer in me begin to fight to be fed, so on Saturday when my husband was at Soundwave I fed it some Nier and some Yakuza 3, both great games and now I’m BACK!
Can’t wait for the little man’s naptime so I can play some more.
-
Love Nier, working on my second ending…will get back to it one day.
So… STILL no internet at home… man i almost feel like i’m not even part of the gang anymore… depressing stuff 🙁
Also, on a quick catch up – MORTAL KOMBAT HAS BEEN BANNED?!?!
Man i am so so pissed…
The UK will be getting my money, yet again.
Also, i didn’t win a copy of De Blob 2 🙁 sad panda. But it’s pretty obvious to see why – there were some seriously outstanding entries, congrats to all the winners, especially 1st place – what a ripper of an entry. Besides, it’s all good – i REALLY don’t mind paying for something that looks that great, especially when it’s been put out by an Aussie company. Just brill. Enjoy guys!
Also congrats to Strange on getting Kudos again. A very very well deserved recipient.
Also, i have Orientation for Uni tomorrow… I don’t know anyone there and it’s the first time i’ve been at school since i was 16… that’s nine years.. talk about butterfly’s… What’s worse is i haven’t had time to have my haircut yet.. god i’m going to look like a mess…
On the plus side i’m wearing my “I love lamp” tee today. so i won’t further alienate myself tomorrow..
Maybe a Transformers tee? Or Iron Man? hmmm.. choices, choices…
-
Worrying about looking like a mess at uni? BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
*cough* Sorry.
I was typically somewhere in the middle of the well-dressed scale, and my clothes consist of Jeans, T-shirts, and ridiculous hair (I claim I’m going for the Grunge look).
Regardless of weather, there were always people wearing thongs (the shoes, I didn’t check the other type).
Anyway, good luck with it all.
-
Man, your seriously taking it up the pooper from those internets people. You would think they want your money??? It seems like you’ve been offline for a month almost! 🙁 I say put on a cap, grab some bolt cutters and find the bloody terminal box and fix it yourself. Can’t be too hard? Just poke it with a stick a bit.
Oh, and uni, yeah, don’t worry about the hair being scruffy, its practically a prerequisite anyway! But you must sew some leather patches on your elbows.
-
Onto my elbows??
That’s some serious Dante shit you’re talking there, sweetheart!
-
Just remember not to do it like this…
http://27.media.tumblr.com/RaAhBBk4TiugxaasqunxU0rQo1_500.png-
precisely what I was thinking 😀 Just glue the patches onto your skin and start a new trend.
So, is this for the teaching course?? If so, good on ya mate I can imagine you’d be a very entertaining teacher.
Hang on… or was it a business thingy… Darn my memory.

Heads up for anyone buying Dragon Age 2 on PC that hasn’t preordered yet:
Ozgameshop is selling the PC version for $44 (with free shipping, of course). This is half (yes, half) of EB’s $88 asking price. Get it while it’s shiny.

Man, F EB. F EB in the A. After SC2 I vowed to never give them my money again, and so far I’m the happier for it. Sure, now I get my new releases a couple of weeks late but I pay 70% less and it’s still the same game – and for those online heavy titles, all the patching and server issues have been fixed by the time I log on.
I’ve created an online petition to hopefully try and get the RC rating of Mortal Kombat overturned. Please sign guys:
http://www.gopetition.com/petition/43371.html
Thanks! 🙂
-
Done, our voices must be heard!
-
I was going to sign it for the hell of it, then i saw how many details it asked of me.. so i won’t be bothering..
As much as i hate that MK was RC, a petition with do Sweet FA to get an MA for MK.
Honestly, we’ll all just be better off importing it..
-
Sorry, i didn’t mean to sound like such a prick then.
It’s just been a long time and people still don’t generally take gamers very seriously, and no amount of petitioning will change that.. the best we can do is have a plan of attack for the new SCAG meeting at the end of the year…-
Lol, no worries 🙂 By the way, most of those fields are optional, the only required ones are name and country (so that if this does take off, I can distinguish locals from people just helping out). But I removed a few altogether anyway.
I will probably also end up importing it, but I would still like to see the decision overturned.
-
-
Maybe Gerry Harvey can kick up a fuss for us? 😛
-
-
Done, and sent out some emails!
Mortal Kombat – Australian Edition
-
Hey dude, did you create this?
-
Yep, i even did the photoshoping on 2 of them while i was super-duper drunk, heh
-
Even more impressive.
-
I was having lunch with my parents at a German restaurant (the one in Cabramatta, has anyone else been there?)
And I just can’t say no to beers with ridiculously long names I can’t pronounce.
-
Ahh.. you and i must be kindred spirits
An appreciation for fine imported beers an ball pits.
-
I know I’m supposed to say something rude here, but you’ve been gone sooo long I just can’t figure it out! :-O
-
-
-
-
That is awesome. Great job!!
MY GOD!!!
THAT IS BRILLIANT IN ITS SIMPLICITY AND TRUTH!!!
Seriously though, what a great little chuckle. lol
I love the falling into the ball-pit.
If anyone hasnt watched this…
Do it
So who here played Metro 2033?
I followed it quite well in its lead up to release. Then when it released and it was reviewed mediocre i thought i would hold of buying it. I never got around to playing it till this weekend when i borrowed it off a mate.
HANDS DOWN AMAZING!
Its amazing.
I dont know what the hell the reviewers were on about. Some of them complained it was TOO hard. Well, shit son, who doesnt like a challenging game.
I am not going to buy it. Not preowned. Brand new to support the game.
Cause it is hands down amazing… amaaaazing.
anyone else’s thoughts?
-
I absolutely adore it. I still haven’t finished it, but it is a spectacular piece of work. It’s STALKER, but better.
I’m 100% with you on this one, mate! 😀
-
I agree with you completely, can’t wait til I’m actually able to play it with a framerate…
Honestly though, my problem is that I am playing it as a perfectionist (it’s on hard, I think, so nothing too bad), but I refuse to use health packs, and I refrain from spraying ammo whenever possible, and it makes the game a real bitch. But in an awesome way.
-
Sorrry, I AM GOING to buy it****
-
I loved the first Stalker, but I gave up on the second due to a plethora of bugs, eventually it left me unable to move anywhere and corrupted my saves. 🙁 But I have been meaning to pick up Metro and you have made me want it badly! I should have picked it up over xmas, I’m sure Steam had it for a bargain then. bugger
-
I was surprised at some of the use of scripting in Metro 2033. Mainly because I didnt think it would use it, or use it as well as it did. Early on in the game you are riding on a hand cart. Amazing.
Seriously, I think this could be hands down one of the most underrated games of 2010
-
-
I hired it and liked the story and the mask mechanic, but was a bit fps’ed out at the time.
Will have to check it out again. Seen it pretty cheap brand new. -
I don’t know if I just have a thing for depressing Russian FPSes (I love STALKER, too), but what made Metro 2033 for me was the atmosphere.
You move between these small stations that are the remnants of humanity, going through dark tunnels occasionally avoiding magical glowing things that rage your face for the sole purpose of getting to the surface, and when you get out there, you take a deep breath (through your mask), savour the sight of daylight… for about a second until some god damn thing from the sky tries to eat you for dinner. So then every time you’re out exposed you’re paranoid a thing is going to swoop down and eat your face. So then you eventually manage to get back into the tunnels, and friggin things and communists and nazis want to kill you. Everything wants you dead in this game, and it is marvellous.-
But you know what grinds my gears?
With the announcement of 2034, the creators, or THQ were spouting something about learning from the flaws of Metro 2033, as if it was an actual bad game. They didn’t talk about that it didn’t sell too well, they actually made it sound like a bad, or at least a severely flawed game.
What?
Is this some sort of bollocks dependence on Metacritic score again? Because the game in no way was a failure. Gunplay was pretty average, sure. Stealth was a finicky thing. But it had creative flair and atmosphere which was amazing for immersion. Pneumatic weapons pieced together from scraps, and a headlight that you needed to manually charge with a portable generator? Stuff like that makes you believe the world you’re in, and you can feel the desperation as you pass by and overhear families at the station stuggling. No, it’s not an amazing moneymaker like Call of Duty, but it’s an amazing game in its own right. So frig you, THQ. If 4A Games do create a better game than 2033, good on them, good for us, but don’t disrespect 2033.
-
I got more the impression from the release that it was really just them saying that its mechanics needed work, not saying it was a bad game. My main problem was the animations, as it didn’t feature any sort of advanced blending, which made everything look a little awkward.
-
-
Who else wants to see more Atlus games on next-gen? it’s all good that they make awesome DS RPG games. But i don’t think they have made a single next gen RPG. I get it that their games are totally influenced by Japanese culture and their usual art style won’t really transfer well to the PS3/360.
But i want Persona game on PS3:)
-
You seem to be completely unaware of… Catherine!
It’s their latest game, on 360 and PS3, currently only released in Japan, with no announcements for elsewhere (which is annoying). It looks… Odd. Very, very, odd.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_(video_game)
Given it’s available on 360, I’d be expecting a western release.
-
As far as i know, Atlus have already announced that game wont be released in North America. So PAL zones have no-chance.
Plus, it’s not really an RPG (i think?)
-
Yeah, you’re right, it isn’t really an rpg, but it is a full atlas game on a current gen console, so I’d take what you can get. Anyway, as far as I was aware they’d announced “no plans” for releasing it in the US, which means that it will be released there in the end, they’re just denying it for now (well, that’s where my money sits, I could well be wrong).
-
On a more positive note. I’ve read that Catherine is totally killing it in the sales charts. Hopefully this let’s Atlus know their quirky style can bring in the big bucks even on the current gen.
-
Yeah, I hope it does too, I’ve also heard that a lot of people are bitching about its difficulty, which I find amusing.
-
-
-
Actually, what was said was that they currently have no plans, or something of the sort.
Few days after, an email was sent out to the Atlus Faithful with this: http://www.atlus.com/res/doyoustilllikeus.jpg
Catherine wears pink, and I suppose a relationship break-up is sort of the theme of the game, so signs are pointing towards Atlus just being sneaky about it.
Also, apparently it briefly showed up on GameStop’s website, slated for a 26th July release, but quickly disappeared.
-
I do.
And I am torn cos I can’t andle the grind.
Which is wired cos I put well over 100 hrs into DQIX recentley!
-
Atlus did the Snowboard Kids on N64 , right?
Love those games!
Hey Mark, you said you were going to be on ABC news 24. You lied! I watched, and you weren’t there :'(
-
I was! I was definitely there!
-
Do we know if there’s some way to watch it? Because I only found out about the appearance at 3:45 or something, damn Facebook…
-
I’ve had a look but I can’t find anything…
-
-
-
‘Twas a good 4 minutes of television 🙂
-
Sorry, I didn’t see! Maybe it’s caus I’m in QLD and our times are all different? I dunno… I was all rugged up on the couch, ready for some Serrels… I was hugely disapointed. Hugely.
-
-
That tear still lokks like a nose to me!
-
Umm, is your nose..? That is, what I mean to say… Umm, have you..? Uhh, nevermind.
-
MONKEY!
-
-
I was trying to play Perfect Dark multi on the weekend with Banderdash (Kotaku name?) and it kept failing…is it maybe cos my wife was streaming video??
-
Your wife… was streaming video??
On the internet??
Man, i’ve heard you can make fantastic money off of that, but i didn’t think anyone around these parts did that kind of thing…
-
^^
-
That just went right over the top of my head…
-
I find a lot of things go over my head, but that’s just a part of living in the gutter.
Incidentally, when I first started typing this, I was doing so in the “Website” section. /facepalm
-
Seriously? I have to spell it out…
*sigh*
-
Oh… NSFW…
I wouldn’t advise on clicking on any of the links in the google search anyways… it’s disgusting..I mean.. seriously… Redtube does it for FREE!!!
buh-dum-tish
-
-
I had an inkly it was something like that…though it was called watersports?
-
Nah, watersports is videos of people getting peed on.. there’s no fun in that..
-
So I can’t check…at wurk or at home. What ARE we talking about??
-
-
-
-
I’m Banderdash.
Yeah, that was truly poop.
I don’t know what was happening, it just kept on saying: could join match (or something like that).
You had PD… with another?! :'(
It’s ok, I wasn’t there for you. I understand. I didn’t fulfill your… needs.
-
No, I couldn’t get it up…and running.
-
Haha, it was because you felt guilty!
-
Well, that solves that!
I can’t play PD with anyone until Sughers is present!
-
-
What more can i say than “BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”??
-
I aint clicking until I get a SFW confirmation!
-
Oh sorry, it’s very safe for work 🙂
The gutters is a comic about the comics industry – something i thought you would already be all over like white on rice?
-
Looks good, I’m fairly oblivious to most webcomics…
-
Ok, well knock it off!
lolThis is a comic that you – ESPECIALLY you – need to start reading…
go.. from the start… NOW!
-
I read it all…
-
-
-
-
The Gutters is a webcomic parodying the comic industry, it’s definitely safe for work, and hilarious to boot.
-
Deinitely SFW and even better, you will actually get the joke!
http://www.the-gutters.com/comic/90-chase-conley#
This one’s a winner!

Glad u put this link up as our esteemed moderator seems to be quite busy this afternoon!

Who was asking me about Green Lantern last TAY?
I was just at the library and I saw Green Lantern Secret Origin also by Johns. If you dig Rebirth you should definetly get this!
Also after that buy
JLA: The Nail and
JLA: Another Nail by Alan Davis.
These two got me liking GL!!
-
The question is, which GL? Hal, Kyle, John or Guy?
-
HAL!
-
I thought this was about 2001 when I was skimming through 😀
-
Good choice.
Something that has always bugged me about the whole Hal vs Kyle thing is just how bad the backlash is against Kyle. Sure, he took over a well loved (and let’s face it, better) hero. And there was the Mary-Sue aspects and girlfriend in refrigerator stuff. Yet independent of all that, he isn’t a bad character.
I actually like Kyle’s part in the Sinestro Corps war. So I wonder if people would like him more if they didn’t have to screw over Hal to give him the spotlight.
-
I like the current standard.
Hal and the other three co-exist. Hal gets the comic called GREEN LANTERN cos he is. and the others get Corps and guest in everything else all the time anyway!
-
-
-
-
hey jimu it was me asking about Green lantern. I Received GL rebirth hardcover and batman year one in the same shipment. Best Friday ever. I read both of the Green lantern was good i will have to read the wikipedia entry cause some of it went over my head. On the whole it was awesome thanks for the info will see if i can buy that and sinestro corps on ebay.
-
Go on wikipedia or somewhere and find out which comes next. Don’t jump staraight into Sinestro War or you’ll be really confused!
-
I may have just posted this…Dunno..interwebz crapped out!
Get to wikipedia or somewhere and find out what comes next or you’ll get really confused rerading Sinestro War!
-
Another victim unmasked by facebook!
Poor Rocketman. Your secret is safe with us 😉

Anyone got a DS lite or DSi in good condition that they want to sell? My daughter has been saving her money for over a year, and would now have enough if she picked one up second hand. The second-hand ones at our local EB Games are pretty beat up.
-
Interested ina DSI XL? if so, how much are you willing to part with? I can run it by the mrs and see if she’s interested as I think she would like to get a 3ds, and this would be a good head start!
-
Peter i have one. I wont make you buy it its still usable but i’m getting a 3ds everything works just send me a email at rossfear (at) msn dot com. With you adress and ill get it sent off. Thats if you want it.
-
SO???
DID HE TAKE IT, OR WHAT??????
-
ARGH!
The suspense is killing me!
-
-
I just read ‘I have one’ and ‘wont make you buy it’ and ‘3ds’… I was really jelly for a few seconds there.
-
http://www.pokemonaus.com/?p=1116
Super excited about new Pokemanz!
Looks like they’ve really mixed up the types. And this is the best overall designs since Red and Blue!
-
Well, out of all of them, I want the flaming guinea pig (fire starter), and the zebra the most. Of course, I’m not going to be able to play this game until I grab a 3ds, but still.
-
Also, I just read a plot synopsis of the game, and team Plasma, the “bad guys” of it, really don’t seem all that bad. They seem to be like a form of PETA where I actually agree with them, and don’t view them as crazy hippies.
-
@ Blaghman
Yeah Team Plasma seem a lot more mature than the usual straight up evil villains of Pokemanz past.
Also, Profeesor Juniper is a femalewoman! Wooop!
-
-
Im going the leaf type.
Some o them dragons look hella cool!
-
Since it has online trading, we could set up a Kotaku starter group, and just all do a couple playthroughs of the early area, getting the different Pokemanz, and then trade them between one another. Okay, I have no idea how the online works, but it theoretically could work, right?
-
Yeah, I’ve done it before.
…Possibly in 3rd Gen though, I forget, but basically, all I need to do is play the game as normal, and trade a starter off to a bank player to just store our starter Pokemon. Start a new game, repeat for a second starter. Then your third start is you real game, where you just trade back your starters. The problem with this is that sometimes you have to spend a few hours just to get to the point where you can trade, so it’s kind of disheartening to wipe so many hours off your playtime. Twice.Alternatively, I’m sure (maybe) that amongst all of us here that we’d have at least one game with each of the starters. So then we can just breed us some, and trade eggs. Sure it takes further into the game to do, and you don’t get them for early game, but I guess it’s less tedious this way.
I can’t imagine the online would be too different from Platinum’s or HG/SS, so it’s probably just a matter of putting in Friend Codes.
-
I need someone to help reconfigure my router to get online wit da DS.
I have a tutorial, but I am ghey. Oh and I totally forgot the password to get inside it so I need to do a reset and start from scratch?any takers..?
-
I’m not Welbot, but there should be a reset button on your router that resets everything to factory default. From there you might possibly need to set up your entire network again, but it’ll reset the password 😛
-
The way comments look, it seems that we have dissed Bish and chose to wait for welbot. Not the case Bish :)Your comments weren’t showing when i posted. Can’t speak for the others though….. 😉
-
I wasn’t dissing, I was seaking another opinion. Hoping for an easier option!
It’s all hope though, I know what I have to do…
-
-
-
***waits for welbot***

***waits for welbot***

**waits for nobody!**

Sorry guys… what’d i miss? someone wants their router reset? Can someone fill me in? I’m a little confused 😉

I need someone to help reconfigure my router to get online wit da DS.
I have a tutorial, but I am ghey. Oh and I totally forgot the password to get inside it so I need to do a reset and start from scratch?any takers..?
-
Uh.. if you forgot the password to reconfigure it, a hard factory reset is usually the only option unless it’s got a password recovery mechanism (Which lots of home routers don’t). I don’t know which router you got so that’s just an assumption.
With most routers, hard resets are on a hard-to-reach but easy-to-find button, sometimes the size of a pin hole or big enough to push a pencil through.
I’m dreading the hours long process of setting it all up again!
Last time it took me something like 3hrs cos I never did sucha a thing. It was a long and tedious process I never wanted to do again.
And then I tried logging on with the DS…
Did you back the config up to a file after doing it all? If you didn’t you should make a habit out of it, every time you go in to change it, even if it’s small, back it up! I’ve had my last two routers do stupid factory resets from power surges, so for me it became a necessity, to get all my wireless security and Virtual Server configs restored in minutes.
But yeah when you back it up, make sure you got a password you can remember, since it’ll overwrite that too.
If you haven’t backed it up then I’m afraid there’s no way out of doing it all again from scratch. Unless you contact support they MIGHT have a super-user role invisible user up on the router, depends on the vendor, or something similar that can help. Couldn’t hurt calling them up and finding out.
How does one perform a “back-up”?
Serious, that was my first time, I was on the phone with a mate with the instruction in my hand…
I afraid for you should the Mrs not be able to access the internet……
Since yesterday, I’ve actually been in the process of picking out Pokemon for my team.
-
I’ve been too lazy to really look it up, but if there’s a psychic/ghost type pokemon, or several, that’s all I need.
I can see #612 becoming a favourite amongst meme-goers.
For those too lazy:

GGGGGAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
So frustrating. Just, just, NOOOOOOOOOO.
It’s a non-gamer attempting to play Portal.
-
I never finished Portal.
-
I never -played- Portal. I have The Orange Box on my shelf but it’s never gone into the 360.
Oh crap, I feel small now. Everyone knows my secret shame.
-
Hey it could be worse, you could have gotten a free copy and never played it…
BTW that could have never ever happened to me…well, it’s very unlikely to have happened to me…although there is a minute, very very small chance it might have happened…very small though…
😛 -
I don’t even OWN the Orange Box. Have never played a Valve game at all.
Ha! I win at losing! 🙂
-
-
Me too!
ilike it and always intend to go back…
-
Really?
I had to use a walkthrough for the second-to-last level, but I really wanted to push through!
What about it didn’t compell you to finish?
-
For me:
I was playing it a fair bit and it melted my brain. Just kept going and going anyway and started getting tedious.
Still like it, totally intend to go back and finish.Last thing I remember doing is being in a room with a pit on one side and acid on the other with towers going up.
I had to put a portal down the pit and one on the top of the tower and “bounce” higher than the next tower and shoot a new portal on the top.
Can’t remember if I beat that bit or not…
-
mine was a fence on one side with the exit behind it, a staircase on the left and a roof panel above and behind me.
Youtube said I had to shoot the panel, and the ground, and with the spped boost from the loop I’d sail over the fence.
I thried it a few times, and then I just said to myself…
“Y’know what? Eff this”.And I never went back.
-
-
-
Seeing as my copy of Marvel vs Capcom 3 hasn’t arrived, I’ve had to make do watching the Winter Brawl stream that just ended. It’s fun to see Justin Wong basically destroy Sentinel over and over again.
-
Hadoooooooooooooooooou-ken!
Went to watch true grit today…
My Review: Don’t bother, John Wayne did a better job.
The acting from Jeff Bridges and MAAAATTTTT DAAAAAMMOONNNNN was spectacular, but the rest of the cast – and some odd design choices – made it go to waste. An unnecessary epilogue also dampened the mood quite significantly.
Sadly, the highlight of the film was the Irish under-taker…
“If you want to sleep in a coffin, that’d be alright”
In summary; go watch Gnomeo and Juliet instead
-
Ha, my friend was just telling me how he wasted his life watching True Grit. Good alternatives include Black Swan and 127 Hours. Those are pretty much the only 2 movies I’ve watched in cinemas in the past few months.
-
I saw 127 Hours last week and it was quite good.
A few strange moves – on a couple of occassions (one in particular) I got an Evil Dead 2 vibe… it didn’t ruin the movie, it just seemed strange without Campbell or Raimi and for something so dramatic.
Well worth seeing all the same.
-
-
Gah! I’ve seen both films, since I have a seven year old, and I really, REALLY don’t recommend Gnomeo and Juliet over ANYTHING. That being said, I liked True Grit myself…
-
MadTod, you’re missing your symboly things (clubs, if I remember correctly), now I’ve lost all faith in you, I’m sorry.
Also a Cohen brothers film being a disappointment? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I love those guys.
-
I just checked… THEY WERE SPADES.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO -
I hope that my symbols appear in this one… 🙁
It’s the only thing that sets me apart!
-
NO, dadMoT, you’re set apart, by the umm something something something, which you should know is something something.
I hate how crap my functional vocabulary is.
-
-
JIMU!
I know you were asking about this a lil while ago..
Risen is now just $16 aud on Zavi, plus postage… could be a good tiem to pick it up 🙂
-
Risen?
I don’t think that was me…wait is that the RPG that was banned here?
I’d forgotten all about that…if it is.
Gorram it people, I go back to uni and come back to 200 commments on TAY? FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
Mark/Elly/Ben/Seamus – if there is one thing at all that you implement in the Kotaku redesign, it’s collapsible comments. *Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!*
In other news, I find that I can’t really be bothered gaming anymore. I have many games in my pile of shame, but it’s just that everytime I look at the games, I go ‘ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh’, I’ll do it another day. I find myself telling myself that I’ll game at 8pm for 2 hours or something, similar to how I do homework. Then I realise this, and it turns me off gaming. I love playing games, it’s just that right now, I seriously cannot be bothered. Has anyone ever been in a similar funk and successfully snapped out of it?
-
Yeah, I get them occasionally, I find doing something in another field really helps. I tend to write rants, it’s very relaxing.
Alternately, I start planning video games that I’d want to play, so that when I’m a multi-billionaire space pirate-viking, I can have them commissioned.
-
When I don’t want to play games I read comics, when I dont want to read comics I play games.
If I don’t want to do either I watch a movie/cartoon/etc.This rotation seems to keep me going.
-
Yeah mate, I’ve had these bouts from time to time. I had this talk with loops last year I think, where I was just in a ‘can’t be bothered’ state of affairs. I think it hit as one after another PC game that came out was just so poorly ported, or had never ending graphics problems and it just felt like it was all a chore for very little reward.
It felt like it was all the same, seen it all before etc.
I later came to realise that the blame I threw about came from my own depression. I told myself that I wasn’t depressed, but slowly started seeing all these signs for myself. I took loops advice to give something else a go, so spent a few months doing painting. And you know what? I think it really helped, not only to enjoy games again, but to turn a corner in my depression. If I think deep down though, I do realise that I am still very depressed at times, but I try and do different activities to keep me going. There’s certainly nothing to be ashamed about though at getting bored with games as a gamer. I do feel that the ps3 and 360’s dominance has slowed the huge leaps in progress we had in days gone by, it will take the next gen before we see massive steps forwards again. So this means we have to cross fingers in hopes of better game design and new creative and interesting games to excite us like in days gone by.
So my advice, is take a break from games, hang about in TAY though and keep up with things. Maybe spend your game time just getting out for a walk for a few weeks. Anyway, best of luck with things Notr. 😀-
I had depression in my late teens, I found just keeping busy was the best thing. I wasn’t reading, watching or playing much of anything because I was too depressed to get any joy from them.
Just being too busy to think helped. I still think depression comes from too much over-thinking.
-
I definitely think too much time to yourself to think makes depression worse.
I’ve had post-natal depression for two years now, and for the first 8 months I was so busy planning my wedding I barely had time to be depressed but it was still there. Although I still get upset thinking of my wedding day because I couldn’t really -feel- anything because of the fog of depression.
But after the wedding when my days were no longer filled with organisation, invitation-making etc. I sank all the way down into the wallow of depression. This is probably the time to say a huge “Thank-you!!” to you guys here at Kotaku, also.
I’m clawing my way back to being myself again and the fact I’m almost there is thanks in no small part to my interactions here with you. It took me five years to get to this point after my first baby but you guys have been helping without even knowing it and it’s made me work through the depresion a whole lot quicker this time. So THANK-YOU.-
I couldn’t FEEL anything at my weding either. I know I was happy but I was just so busy and nervous that I just went blank on the emotions.
My stomach felt like I had swallowed a brick, so I didn’t drink anything. Managed to eat though, which is good.
Glad we could help. Would love to argue about JRPGs more in the future!
-
-
As a neurotic perfectionist, I concur – while it can be an incredibly productive state of mind, it really, truly sucks.
Distract yourself… start swimming laps (lol – or something) and next time you catch a glimpse of those games you won’t be able to resist. 😀
-
Not really depression, but i’ve been crazy homesick, and talking to you all has been a big help, so a big thanks to everyone on here from me too.
-
-
Hey QQ
Why do things have to be innovative to be good?
(Serious question, looking for a mass debate!)Some of my favourite games have been in styles as old as the hills.
The games I put most time and effort into recently have been the ones that are quite similar to how they always have been:
Pokemon Pt. SS
Dragon Quest IX, V.
Also I play a lot of Dragon Age which is supposed to be a return to form, I wouldn’t know because I nevert played Baldur’s Gate (Leave me be, I’m a console guy OK?).-
I have all consoles too, so I’m certainly not exclusive PC, but a PC player by heart I guess.
Sorry to not engage too much in your Mass Debate, but I do agree with you. Great games and franchises don’t always have to innovate to be good, indeed some games try to innovate too much and lose the charm they once had. I was talking more from the depression type view when gaming has lost its appeal when it all becomes too samey, I think its times like that that you wan’t a completely new experience or challenge to re-whet your appetite again.
Does that make sense?
-
Yah, it does.
Was hoping to get a rant about how games must constantly reinvent too be good, oh well.
I liked Resident Evil 4s reinvention, wasn’t so chuffed by 5 though.
I still go back and replay 2 quite a bit.I like the baby steps that Dragon Quest took in IX. They added a few bits and peices common to contemporary RPGs, but still felt and played very much like DQ of old.
-
-
Chess hasn’t changed in a couple of hundred years… it’s still a pretty good game.
-
-
I think we’ve all had stages of this, it’s like anything, too much of a good thing and you get burned out. Leisure should never be a chore, if you don’t want to play the games, don’t.
As for my experiences, the best ways I’ve found to combat these are not to play only if you feel obligated to – a big thing now with the rise of the MMO – play because you want to, play so you can chat to your friends. Also, let your desire for a game build up – I get reminded of a game and instead of jumping in and playing it for a couple of hours before letting it gather dust again, I let it simmer until it boils over and I just HAVE to play it after a few weeks and then I sit down and really enjoy it, session after session.
-
Hmmm. Thanks guys, good to know I’m not the only one. As for gaming, my next most anticipated new release will be Portal 2, so I think I’m going to more or less not play anything until that. I still feel very hyped up for Portal 2, and I’m sure Valve and the gang will help me get back into it. In the meantime, I’ll take your advice and do some other stuff. Reread my entire Batman and the Punisher Collection, I’ll put more time and effort into learning OpenGL and graphics programming and I’m thinking I might start writing some short stories. I used to do a heap back in year 11, I had this amazing english teacher back then. Unfortunately, he passed away exactly a year ago.
As for the depression aspect, I honestly don’t know. Some part of me thinks that it could be, but then some part me thinks it’s just part of my socially retarded behaviour. I mean, I find that I prefer peace, quiet and solitude. I suppose that’s fine and plenty of people like that, but when you choose to avoid friends and family sometimes, that’s not right, is it? I don’t know. Ah well. That’s just me rambling. I think I’ll just see how it goes. Maybe I’m just in a funk which I’ll snap out of soon enough.
Also, Jimu and Q-Bo, mass debate. Hehehehehe. heh.
-
-
Yeah I am in a similar rut.
Apart from Minecraft and a little bit of trials I have not really played any games for a couple of months. I have even totally given up on Halo!
It just seems like all the same old stuff and it no longer entertains me.
I guess don’t worry about it; if you don’t feel like playing games then there is nothing wrong with that, just do something you do feel like.
-
Damn You NotoriousR!!!! 🙂
But seriously, thank you, but i’m gonna have to work my ass off when i get home to cover this holiday and whatever bills have amassed in my absence. But as soon as i have the $ it’s on like the proverbial!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
It’s on like Donkey Ko-
OH GOD NINTENDO’S LAWYERS ARE AFTER ME!
-
Just say Diddy Kong.
It was alright for Nintendo to change to Lylat Wars when Lucas complained…
-
Don’t you read my posts 🙁
The name change was allegedly because of this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Fox_(1983_video_game)#Legal_issues.2Ftrademark
not that that proves anything 😉 -
I think I did read that post and misunderstood!
All the mags I read when that happened blamed it on the Lucas!
-
-
-
I still can’t afford one…
“Stop eett”
/End Warcraft Orc.
wow, i’m really loving marvel vs capcom 3 atm, so far my team consists of deadpool, x-23 and chris redfield, and i can’t believe it, but i’m beating people online now! and i’m not a regular player of fighting games 😀
so yeah, any ps3 people on here who want to play me are more than welcome to ask :3
unless you use sentinel, then go die >:(
-
Super jealous! I would so love to play that game, but I can’t even convince my wife to let me buy a discounted version of NBA Jam 🙁 Suckage! Any comps coming up to win MVC3 Mr Serrels? 😉
-
wow, i can’t believe a wife acts just like a parent xD
but just try and convince her that she would enjoy watching you play it, because it’s actually one of the prettiest games i’ve ever seen, lots of colours 😀-
Wives have to act like parents because husbands refuse to grow up. 😛
Although I still can’t get my husband to buy me a 3D TV even though he could watch the Sports Illustrated 3D Swimsuit edition….-
He probably thinks it’s a trap. 😛
-
It is!
-
-
-
Mr. Serrels
Got yer package today, thanks muchly.
One small note.
Your cunning plan to get me loving Anime again was thwarted by my lack of access to a Blu Ray player.
-
I have a problem, I start reading this, I get “Mr. Serrels, I got your package today” and then the sax solo from Careless Whisper cuts in, and bam, Porno.
Just thought you’d all want to know.
-
That isn’t a problem, that’s “vision” in the film direction industry!
-
I’d probably pay money for this – curiousity rather than any gratification (…I keep telling myself <_<)
…so nothing too explicit, just one of those SBS late-night foreign language movies or something.
😛
-
-
But what was the anime?
You could always try convince Mrs Hsien that a PS3 would be a really good idea……
Or you might remember one of my emails…..
Or i feel another epic community swapsies coming on….-
I have been trying to convince the Mrs on a PS3 for some time. She has this craaaazy idea about buying a house that I have accepted.
What was the email?
I can’t remember the Anime’s name, but from the cover it looks like Saturday morning Evangelion.
-
Haha, saturday morning eva. I lol’d.
-
-
Oh crap – just played that new DLC game on Kinect Sports, Rapid Runner, where you have to sprint and hit markers for a time extension, got to 600-odd metres before running down the clock and now my legs are taking out an AVO against my brain to ensure that Never Happens Again
If anyone is still after Pokemon Black/White,
Dick Smith have it for $49.94 which is almost $20 cheaper than everyone else!
-
Secretbuy Jimu!!!!
-
I actually already purchased White many moons ago with the Mrs Permission.
I also purchased DA 2 both from Ozgameshop.com.I buy stuff, I just have to keep a handle on it.
-
And stop encouraging me to secret buy! That was a onetime thing you evil, evil man!
-
-
Wow, this is bizarre, as you can clearly see, I am on here at 2:35, because PSHHHH, SLEEP! I just noticed that a bunch of posts updated, from when I last checked TAY, at like, 1am (or something). So, umm, well, good work.
Started Playing Mass Effect for the first time last night. Kinda missed the ball when it first came out, and now all I can think is, what the hell was wrong with me, this game kicks freakin ass. Is there any DLC worth playing through for Mass Effect 1?
-
I enjoyed the ‘Bring Down the Sky’ DLC.
-
Only 2 were released…
Bring Down The Sky and Pinacle Station.Bring Down The Sky is the only one of worth.
-
What about Pinnacle STation? (I kid)
-
I bought it.
I played it.
I topped the leaderboards.
I griped that my apartment wasn’t in ME2.But, it wasn’t what mass effect was about… and it added nothing to the story… and it was a perfect example of why outsourcing DLC is bad m’kay?
-
-
-
Has anyone used those services that pay you for your old mobile phone before? Since I’ve got a new phone, I want to get rid of my old one, and I obviously want to maximise the profit. Up until now, I’ve been using Cash4Phones cos they offer the best prices I can find, but just wondering if anyone else has had luck finding any places offering good $ for your old goods?
-
While i havent used them yet, they seem to offer pretty good prices
-
Ive always thought with these sites though, that it would totes encourage people to steal peoples phones. The sites dont care about proof of purchase, chargers or anything. They are good with just the phone and the battery.
Sooooooo suss.
-
I got offered $5 for my phone at one of them… which made me decide to keep all my phones until they’re antique, and then display them in a mobile phone museum.
It’s a plan that I’m certain will suceed!
-
Tell me when tickets go on sale, I’ll be first in line!
(with a baseball bat in hand, HATE mobile phones!) -
The one I’ve been using does require you to supply the charger aswell. So far the most I’ve been offered was around $24, but they were old shitty phones. Now I’m looking at selling my Sony Aino, and they want to pay me $108! Was just curious if anyone else has any sites I can check to compare prices.
-
Hey Welbot, we still waiting further up the page……..? 🙂
-
Just in case you don’t look up further, I’m back now.. what’s the deal? Who needs help with what?

And Bish helped too!

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaht just happened? been F5ing kotaku for 20 mins. no response. but you b back now, my sweet sweet man crush that is kotaku.au
-
What I find exceptionally strange is that it would not refresh in Firefox, but worked marvellously in Internet Explorer. Odd.
For NotoriousR
http://www.ebgames.com.au/ps3-153257-inFAMOUS-2-Hero-Edition-PlayStation-3
$198
No confirmed date yet though… still, bought! 🙂
-
$198? ಠ_ಠ
Ah well. I think I’ll wait until the price is confirmed, I’m hoping that SCEE announces it to be $150. Should that fail, then I suppose I’ll try Zavvi/Game UK/cdwow.
Should that fail, I’ll probably still end up getting it from EB. It’ll make me sad, but then inFamous 2 will make me happy. Thanks for the link though!
-
ಠ_ಠ
This is win!
-
Handle!
-
Really? I would’ve thought that you would’ve been a Redditor….
-
U what??
-
Is that someone who is sent back from the future in order to… make things red?
-
-
-
Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch,
Did you get this weeks’ CheapSkate? I emailed myself a few things last night, and they bounced back this morning. I fear hotmail is being mean to my account again…
-
New CCG?
Are you sending to or from hotmail?
I find when I send emails TO hotmail, they bounce if I don’t write them like a letterexample:
Hi Pooperman
Here is a link I think you will find funny:
http://www.fakesite.co.ckByeeeeee
Jimu Hsien-
Yeah, there’s a new CCG, just not in the way you imagined…
…you’ll see… xD
Also, fakesite.co.ck is a broken link… fix it. NOW!
I’m beginning to hate hotmail now, especially since it cocks up my uni webmail folder too (it’s outlook live), so I’m tempted to move away from my email address of about 8 years onto something more modern…
-
hello, is Mark overseas? I just wanted to make sure he got the email I sent regarding the address details for Plainview’s metropolitan contact (the guy with same email address as the one attached to this comment). Mark probably gets 10,000 emails every day as it is. Not to worry, Plainview just wanted me to call in. I can try again when Mark gets back, or resend the message if need be.
Thank you.
-
Pass on my congrats to Plainview if you could. Boy, am I jealous! How excited has plainview been with the win?
-
Oh and yeah, I think he’s been on a plane. Maybe Elly can confirm for us where the Markster is hiding?
-
I’m not sure where he is either… I’m all by myself today 🙁
-
Elly, surely you’re aware that being at work alone is awesome? It leads to fun things, like Pants-Off (insert day of the week here).
-
Definitely!
This is your chance to totally trash the office and have the best work day ever!!!4!44!
-
If noone is around to see that I’m not wearing pants, am I still not wearing pants?
-
If I stop commenting on TAY, does Sughly cease to exist…? Am I just words on a screen, or am I the person with a completely different name typing them, pretending to be Sughly…

So is that why Kotaku disappeared this morning??
-
Thank you, I will. He was very excited when I spoke to him on Saturday.
If this has anything to do with the TV, feel free to send it to me. I don’t mind, I have a bit of space here so I can take it off your hands.
Oh and… yeaaah, Mark is overseas… yeah…
-
If he gats the telly can I have the PS3?
-
NO! I asked first! And it’s mine, ALL MINE!!
-
Actually, you’re alright… I suppose I do already have a PS3. Though I could put one in the bedroom, I could be nice enough to give it to you.
Now we just have to wait for Plainview to… disappear…
-
-
-
Thank you, and I think you need to run these ideas past Plainview!
-
Or how about this crazy idea… 2 TV’s!!
…both for me.
-
Mark posted my Let Of Some Steam submission! I completely missed it with the time difference 🙁
If anyone can be bothered, did the person i replied to miss my point entirely or am singlehandly killing Australian arcades? Can someone please let me know?
-
You’re singlehandedly responsible for the death of Arcades, the world over, the ressurection of Hitler, and the fact that my Turkey sandwich is a little dry.
In actuality, he’s doing what almost everyone does, which is, he has a lot of information about a very select area of something, so he projects it across an entire field, I wouldn’t say he missed your point entirely, more just that he’s overreacting.
-
Thanks B-Man! 🙂
-
That’s not always the case.
For example, I have a limited knowledge of a wide variety of subjects. So I take a mixture of that information, use that to extrapolate something that seems reasonable at first glance and then write it up in a way that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. I then pretend that the idea is sound but I couldn’t think of a way to explain it better and hey presto, it looks like I know what I’m talking about.
It allows for equally misguided opinions without the hassle of having to learn much about anything in particular.
-
Oh, I do pretty much the same thing, but, I like to view it from a scientific scale, where it’s essentially the same thing, but on a different scale.
-
LOL
-
-
-
His argument fails because not everyone is good enough to play in a tournament, I love Tekken & SF. There is no way in smell I’d last 5 seconds at a tournament.
Also who has the time for that?
And I’m pretty sure that the tournaments all seem to be where he lives!-
Thanks to you to Jimu 🙂
-
-
I’ll tell you who’s killing arcades, arcades that’s who, last time I went into one (maybe 10-12 months ago) they had a handful of interesting games, a lot of relics (like that Star Wars Pod Racer, Street Fighter III etc – no SFIV or even Tekken 6 anywhere), half a dozen ‘hunting’ games and the rest was wall to wall token amusements.
Its appalling that the local Westfield just down the road has more appealing arcade games – table top machines that play Pac Man or DK Jr for a dollar
I think it all started to turn bad for them back in the late 90s when those cabinets that simulated jetskis or snowboards came out and all of the sudden every cabinet needed to have some ridiculous gimmick to support a really casual game type, all the old style arcade games of the past ended up migrating to consoles and arcades were just left with casual light fare, but with the advent of the PS2 even the casual abandoned the arcade in favour of the living room.
Its a pity, I remember the good old days of so many arcade greats, SF-EX, Tekken 3, Strider, Moonwalker, Pac-Land, Soul Edge, Daytona USA, Point Blank – it just isn’t the same nowdays
Hey all, I’ve come up with an idea for minecraft that should be made official, minecraft birthday gift cards…
http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb449/lamboman007/Minecraft%20Kotaku%20AU/minecraftgiftcardtemplate.png
I made this on Sunday night for my younger brother’s birthday. Instructions for the template: Open the image in paint(or any other image editor), use the text tool to write the gift code using “Small Fonts” font (or any other pixelated font) in the colour R:255 G:212 B:0. Then open Word and drag the image from it’s folder onto the document, then print it up on glossy photo paper and cut it out.

Strange
Can I join your girls only group??-
Eh, what?

Yep, that handle must be cursed…

Well you could join, Jimu…but I doubt you’d be willing to do what has to be done to satisfy the requirements….

Any luck on me scribbling a comic you vomited??
(Note: Your other comics aint vomit)
-
Are people allergic to saying “NO”?
Or do they honestly miss my posts when I ask questions???-
No & no.
…wait, I mean yes for the last one…
A lot of stuff I skim when I’m trying to tell myself I don’t have time for Kotaku, then totally forget about revisiting and replying to the story/comment.
So don’t sweat it! In fact, here – have a cute little kitten!
:3
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww!
…so to answer your questions properly, I don’t know. 😐
-
I think it’s extremely easy to miss posts. Especially when they have no responses.
And for Shane it’s probably doubly easy to miss that you’re talking to him because you didn’t capitalise his name? 😛 -
Some people are too busy to spend all day sitting on TAY.
Although, I’m certainly not one of them.
-
I remeber the days when I was too busy to comment on TAY…
Then I got a higher paying job.
-
-
Was “vomit” a bad choice??
-
-
Jimu, sorry I missed you earlier. Part-time work, full-time uni, and no net access conspired against me.
I only got net access at uni sorted today, so until now, I pretty much only got on Kotaku in the early mornings.
I’m open to collaboration, definitely. Shoot me an email – link on my site to my addy.
I have a 500 page graphic novel that desperately needs an art upgrade. Failing that, I have nothing ready at the moment, but I am sure to at some point soon 🙂
-
YAYYYY!
A response!!
Will do…
-
😀 I open with a smile because…. On my third sit down with Inferno II I beat that sucker of a bastard! I was also wrapped to see I just nipped Batguy at the post. How in hell FS made it through with no faults must purely be the work of the devil.
I’m pumped also because I set my limit to beat it by Friday, without Shady’s guide. I’m proud of myself 😀
-
Nice work Q-bo,
I still find myself struggling to master the throttle in that game, so you’re doing well. -
Hey well done! Pretty satisfying doing it by yourself, isn’t it?
I might have to go torture myself some time soon and overtake your score!
Love the Prodigy:
-
Me too. They were my first favourite band when I was 13.
-
In reference to your post on previous page, music always helps me when i’m in a bit of a rut. Find some new stuff ( or grab a few favourites ) and just crank it, scream, dance whatever!!! Usually helps me… 🙂
Heads up MEN, grab your leather caps because my treasure hunt is complete(for real MEN only)!
First clue is on the message board 😀
-
Also kudos to FatShady for effectively cutting the Kotaku AU community in half 😛
-
I have Minecraft, I just don’t want to be part of a community-destroying clique [smug]™
…I kid, I kid!
I just don’t have much time to play it (+ a terrible connection when I’m at uni) and I know the temptation will be no good for my uni work. So y’all keep enjoying yourselves for me, but I want to make one request – stop teasing me with all this talk of Minecraft! :'(
-
-
Just a quick note, your first clue is terrible.
-
And now I am facepalming. See, lambo, because of the way it was phrased, we found your little clue /before/ we found the tunnel (the right way one), so uhh, yeah, it was kind of confusing.
-
-
Grrrr Lambo. I’ve been seeking your treasure and am FrUsTraTed! You last clue points to
x = 158
z = 70
Given that the height of the field is 70, perhaps 69 taken at foot level. The problem arises that the perimeter of the field could be interpretted in a few ways. If your after the number of blocks, its 158, that is if you mean the White lines. But, this number could also be 162, as corner blocks are used twice.
So, I dug at x 156~164 and y 69~70 to bedrock…. nothing… I also drowned a few times… So I tried a few other quadrants in case you messed up and one of the co-ords is a negative value. Also nothing…. Are we even close?? Can you clarify how the perimeter should be measured? Ken Bruce has gone completely mad.-
With the perimeter, I miscounted, I thought it was 30×50, but I just found out it’s 30×51, sorry, so you’ll want to dig at x:160
With the height, is that 70 blocks from bedrock?
I wasn’t talking about height that way. I was talking about height as in, say you have 1 block, it’s length is 1, it’s width is 1, and it’s *height is 1*. Sorry for the confusion…-
GAH! After digging more shamefully deep holes, I realised you meant THICKNESS! The dumb thing is ross found the clue in the tardis first, and I told him it didn’t matter, cause we had the last clue to the treasure, so we kept digging for 2 more hours…. Man, there better be cake in that treasure or I’ll not be happy! 😛

What the hell….?
http://foodfreedom.wordpress.com/2011/02/22/australia-bans-nature/
Are those in power reallllly this stupid??? I mean, come on… Not only is the depressing and embarrassing for our nation this could completely change ecosystems forever. How the hell could they even implement it?? Who is the moron who gets paid to come up with these ridiculous wastes of tax payers money??? There is so much rebuilding of both lives and infrastructure to be done and they want to waste money by banning our national flower and thousands of other common plants?? Of all the stupidest things, this is a cake taker…
-
What in the sphincter of hell are they playing at?
-
I admit Aus has a shocking drinking and drugging problem…BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!
-
Yeah, and Cannabis is decriminalised, don’t they know anything?
Oh, wait, most people don’t live in the ACT, silly me.
-
I just put Yakuza 3 in the PS3 and was about to sit down playing when the postman arrived with my copy of Deadly Premonition. Yay!
But now what? I’m already playing Nier, Yakuza 3 and Alan Wake at the same time…do I dare start Deadly Premonition too?
-
Yes, the sign of a true first lady is their ability to multitask. To manage all the things that no-one else can, it’s a hard job, but you should be able to prove yourself worthy of the title.
-
Nooooooooooooo!
Hold off a little bit, otherwise you’ve got too many games going and can’t appreciate them all – when I start playing multiple games at once it (usually) becomes all about finishing them and not really enjoying them. :/
-
Use it as motivation to complete at least one of the others. Or maybe use it to re-inspire hubby…
-
Hold off.
Get some of the others done first and out of your mind.
Deadly Premonition’s a great game with an excellent story but the shooting parts(tacked on at the end, by order of “THE MAN”) are shocking and really run the risk of putting you off!Maybe finish wake, it’s the polar opposite has a great shooting game with a fairly predictable (but fun ) story.
-
I think the words in the bracket are meant to read ‘and extremely lame’ there Jimu.
-
As in fairly predictable (and extremely lame) story
-
I always wondered if Alan realised he wouldn’t have such a bad time of it… if he hadn’t gotten rid of the flares, guns and ammo in between every frigging level!
-
Ahhhhhhhhhhh
The second brackets.
I had fun, I love the meta stuff. The show witin the “show” the crazy game developer in the nut-house…wait I remember posting this before… -
I know, I just can’t resist the opportunity to put down this game whenever I can.
-
-
-
-
Guys! You know I’m a spoilerphobe of the most paranoid kind. I’ve barely started these games and now I’m scared to read your comments.
Incidentally, I chose to stick with my original plan and play Yakuza, thus successfully resisting the lure of Deadly Premonition. For now.
-
Your predicament is extremely familiar to me.
I, too, was juggling a number of games when my copy of Deadly Premonition arrived. And, in the end, I decided to hold off on Deadly Premonition until I’d finished some of the other games that I had started. Incidentally, my copy of Deadly Premonition remains unopened after several months.
I wish you better luck than I.
-
That’s what worries me. I’ve been wanting to play Deadly Premonition for some time now so I really don’t want it to end up another untouched game in my towering pile of shame.
I think if I at least start the game I may be able to avoid this fate for it.

I need someone to help reconfigure my router to get online wit da DS.
I have a tutorial, but I am ghey. Oh and I totally forgot the password to get inside it so I need to do a reset and start from scratch?
any takers..?
-
Ok.. if you don’t know the password to get in to the router, you will need to do a factory reset on the device. There will be a little sunken button on the back that you will need a pen or something to push in. Hold it in for 5 seconds or so, and the lights on the front will flash or something. Then you will be able to access it with the default user/pass. Once inside, all you need to do is re-enter your internet user name and password (if it’s a modem) and setup your wireless access point. If you need help with that, I can help, but it’ll be much easier if you’re online. I can remote in to your machine and get access to the router and make changes. If you don’t think you have ever changed the password to get in to the router, I can probably still help, as I know the default passwords for a lot of routers, so I may be able to remote in and fix it. Shoot me an email and we can discuss more if you like.. dondalinger at hotmail
Did Elly go for the day?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Who will approve my nonsense?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I’m always here to approve your nonsense.

Garblegarblegarble!-
WAIT!
Only the one…
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-
I take back that last post, you are a fine approver!

Yeah, we should possible avoid lots of crap, don’t want a SpamTod 2.0 occurring. Actually, sine Elly’s stuck dealing with our crap while Mark is busy, now is the PERFECT time for a SpamTod redux!

http://www.ebgames.com.au/ps3-153300-Portal-2-The-Cube-Edition-PlayStation-3
I have no idea why, but I want this. Even though it’s the game, a box and a rubiks cube. I wants it. Now. I think I’ll finally use that Gift card. It basically means I get Portal 2 for free!
The DA2 demo is out now for all XBL members! *squee*
Might voice some rambling opinions tomorrow. If I can get the thing to work.
-
…curses!
That means I forgot to download it using my super-awesome-gold-privileges last week, before I moved back to uni… :/
-
Some opinions tonight, because I’m in cranky old man mood: (this turned into a mini-review, and non, je ne regrette rien)
– They did wonders with the art direction. DA:O was delayed in development for a few years, and it showed in the fairly clunky graphics. Character models, especially, look much better in the sequel.
– The voice acting is pretty good, although the mix of Canadian and “ye Olde English” accents is more jarring than when it’s in, say, Mass Effect or KoTOR. The male Hawke voice also sounds a little disinterested in some parts.
– Combat seems pretty simplified, or at the least made more ‘flashy’ (fleshy?) for a casual audience. Button-mashing reminds me of Jade Empire (another great Bioware game) but the finishing moves and special attacks are fan-service to people seeking some ‘bloody’ fun. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – but wasn’t Dragon Age their flagship RPG franchise?
– The new Mass Effect-esque dialogue wheel is nice, and the icons help to make things clear.
– Also, my thumbs are sore. Button mashing to attack is frustrating.
– The marketing line: “Think like a General, fight like a Spartan.” Seriously? That’s ALL they could think of? Are there Spartans in Thedas? What does Sparta have to do with a fantasy RPG? Who knows?
-
Yeahhhhhh, that Spartan line is silly.
In one of their developer interviews where they show off gameplay, they’re trying to emphasise how you can either play in the old style where you pause and lay out all the moves for your characters, or just dive into real time combat and just kill everything in sight. So I think they’re trying to stress both play styles, either tactics or a ferocious real time fighter, but it just comes off as a bit stupid.-
They’ve been trying to emphasise these things, and the majority of the complaints on the forums have been about dumbing down… and then the demo locks away those things?
What the hell man?
-
Yeah, but I still think some of the hate they’re getting for it is a bit much.
I understand that for some people who loved DA:O would view this aimed towards an action-loving crowd, outrageously simplified from some of the more traditional, D&D ruleset ‘Western RPGs’.
But from a few reviews that have popped up, people have been picking on things like the inability customise your companions’ armour.
It’s actually kind of entertaining, but also a little sad.

Just saw Serrels on Top Gear with Nick Frost… so time to come clean Mark, where are you – at GDC or in the UK?
Don’t make me ring your wife!

I don’t think that should be an issue mate. You have been around for a while so no trust issues here. If anyone of the others are OK just send the details if you don’t mind. I am internet-less at home and i am down to perhaps 1 post a day atm because of work stuff.
Server is set up so you should get access immediately (white list is disabled until mark joins but dont tell anyone 😉
-
Alright, I’ve sent one off, hope that’s okay with everyone else on the server.
-
Anyone else watch the Premier League this morning?
I’m sure this has been brought up before, but I’ve only really started weighing in on the TAY threads in the last three weeks. I love the community already (I did before joining TAY) but I find trolling the pages of comments three times a day looking for fresh replies to be painful. I’m happy to register a domain and start up an official unofficial forum if there’s a desire for it.
Thoughts?
-
I think lamboman actually set one up, but i don’t think it took off. LOL at trolling 🙂 I think trawling through TAY is a bit of trial by fire for newbies. I just ctrl-F my name to check for replies or covos quickly and read the rest when i have some time.. We all have faith in Marks often promised upgrades. I think……..
-
No, I meant trolling. Like lurking under a bridge, watching the oblivious comments pass by until I see a particularly tasty one and then BAM! I jump on it and shout incoherently into it’s stunned, terrified face.
-
-
I already set up a forum back in January, I just never told anyone about it…
http://auskotaku.freeforums.org/portal.php-
Those statistics on the right are awesome!
-
The ones on the left, too: “lamboman007 is the new 7up Pinball champion”. Yay!
-
-
-
Mark and the other Kotaku demigods are adjusting the comment system to a more user-friendly one. It will apparently make browsing TAY easier, or at least simpler.
-
Haha, you are indeed right Endu, many a mention of this has come up. Probably is a weekly query at least. I think people are generally happy though with the format, it’s just that we are now waiting for improvements on the current way of life, such as collapsable topics… kind of… thing. Ok, someone else should probably explain…
Who’s excited about the iPad 2 announcement tomorrow morning? 😀
Just me…?
*sigh*
-
No, not just you!
I’m pumped to see if it’s worth getting this time. If it isn’t, I’ll invest in a touchscreen monitor, because, let’s be honest, tablets are really difficult to use…-
My laptop has a touchscreen…not fun when my 2-year old son gets hold of it. 😛
-
I was/am really keen to get one of those, I was trying to scope out one that would be powerful and responsive enough to practically be used for drawing and animation while I’m outside the house. I wasn’t fully convinced by anything I saw as yet though. And the iPad is far from being that kind of product.
-
Some people draw quite well on ipads
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOxuLILsduk(yes Jimu, it’s sockless Lee)
-
I knew something like that was coming! Well, we’re not all Jim Lee, and even he I’m sure would have an easier and more thorough illustration completed on a proper tablet pc.
-
I know, but i couldn’t resist 🙂

I haven’t commented in a while, mainly because I’m on my honeymoon in Japan! I’m in Takayama at the moment, a quieter town that the other cities I’ve visited so far (Osaka, Kyoto). It’s 1 degree and snowing. Japan is difficult to get your head around, the way people act, dress, eat, speak, advertise, what is acceptable, what’s not, everything is just so different.
I’m heading to Tokyo tomorrow, and the Mrs has generously allowed me to take a day to myself. I’m going to go visit the Pokemon building, and Electric city, but what else should I do, thoughts? Are there things I can buy here that I can’t at home?
-
Japan, alone and without the Mrs, asking for things you can buy that you can’t at home… asking for trouble there, Explody.
-
I’d recommend a visit to the toy museum in Akihabara! It’s several stories of all manner of figurines and stuff on display in cabinets, ranging from really old to current day. Well worth a look. Also, visit a maid cafe!! 🙂
-
Also, if you do end up in Akihabara, go to Super Potato! It’s a must! You’ll find all kinds of games there for all systems! Even old ones! It’s just.. too fantastic for words!
-
-
“Are there things I can buy here that I can’t at home?”
Definitely, though they mostly fall into the “random crap” category. I just found that buying mystery box toys for 200 yen or so that look cool is the best approach. I have some awesome Dragonball, Pokemon and I-have-no-idea-what-the-hell-that-is figurines from my visits to Akihabara. In fact there’s a whole shelf of things that I should probably send in to Kotaku for a “Show us your setup” article.
There will also be items you can only buy at the Pokemon store. Things like my 10th anniversary stuffed Pikachu + pichu wearing a party hat!
Alright guys, I’m bored.
So.
What’cha wearing?
-
I’m wearing pants.
-
Just pants? That could be interesting.

WARNING!
Gutter talk ahead 😛-
Why on earth would you WARN people about gutter talk? It’s the best kind of talk.

***Humbly bows to new King***

I think Mark’s gonna have to do a little work to win us back when he returns…
A few competitions should do it 😛

I’m wearing boxer shorts. Too hot for anything else atm 😉
Well… if yesterday was any indication of the futue – uni is going to roally suck…
*sigh*
Thats my little sulk for the day…
OH and thy also have soccer and Futsall teams… which i can’t joing because i can’t make the practice sessions due to working an hour away from home… FML…
-
Don’t be disheartened Loops, first days of adult schooling are usuallty pretty shitty (from what i’ve been told, got 2 mates doing it currently).
Jusr think of all those potential T-shirt customers and the millions you will make, then you won’t have to go to school OR work 🙂-
Well at only 25 i’m still one of, if not THE, oldest in the class…
One of the SRC girls even said “don’t worry about it, there’s no shame in being an older-age student”I’M ONLY TWO YEARS OLDER THAN YOU, YOU HARPIE!!! WHY WOULD YOU REFFER TO ME AS “OLDER AGE”???
lol
*sigh*
Oh well, i’m only going to learn anyway…
-
-
Yer don’t get yourself too down man. At least you get to comehome every day and experience the love that is TAY! We’re here for ya man!!
-
Well actually i still don’t have any internet at home.. sooo..
-
-
Yeah I’m at my second uni now, and after thinking I was going to finally see what a good uni is like after a disapointing first, I found out the second was even worse. Uni is overrated, big time. What it does give you though is time, in my case time to work on projects that will benefit me once I’m graduated.
-
In my case it gives me less time, if anything – i’m still working full time
On the Monday and Wednesday i do a half day of uni, i still have to do a half day of work, also.
-
-
Move to NSW. Transfer to Wollongong. Transfer into the physics department.
…and I’ll look after you loops <3
In all seriousness, don't sweat it! You need some time to settle… what course're you doing?

My Chuloopa Overload Kotaku AU T-shirt arrived!
My only problem is that I think the logo would have looked better on the white shirt (I chose the black one), and I ordered a size too big. Next time I’ll know better.
It’s nice and comfy and it looks pretty good on, if I do say so myself. 😛
-
Pics?! Or do I have to wait til our guitar showdown? 😉
-
I was thinking of asking that first question but then I feared I’d turn into a girl gamer stalker or be seen as one xD
-
Umm…no pics. Sorry. 😛
-
-
Really??
That;s great news – bang on the day you need it.
How’s the positioning of the logo? And is the logo faint on the black one? I haven’t seen one in the flesh yet, and all the feedback i can get would make future products better…
I am glad you enjoy the feel and look of it though 🙂
Thanks heaps for the feedback – i really need as much as i can get 😀-
I really gotta buy some at some stage, they’ll do great as my undershirts 🙂
-
Undershirts?
What, my tees aren’t good enough as top-layer apparel? 😛
-
Unfortunately for work, yes :P. I can wear them on the top-layer at home of course or during weekends.
-
-
-
The logo looks good on the black, and is very visible, but the slight white outline of the main part made me think it would ‘pop’ better on the white. I’d have to order it and see.
As far as placement goes, it’s a little hard to tell because it doesn’t fit quite right due to being the wrong size but I think if it was positioned slightly lower it would be better. It’s a bit above bustline right now but logos tend to work better (and get more attention) across the bustline rather than above or below. The sizing is a bit less fitted than I’m used to from my other girl-shaped T-shirts which is why I ordered the bigger size. It’s actually bigger than my size ‘L’ american apparel type shirts though so I’ll know better next time. 🙂
I’ve actually decided not to wear it tonight though because my husband isn’t wearing his 70000 Tons of Metal shirt(from our cruise) which leaves me free to wear mine. I’ve got Finntroll, Kyuss and Alestorm gigs coming up though so I’m sure I’ll give it a work-out at one or more of those.
-
With the impending release of Beyond Good and Evil HD, I expect that we will soon be seeing a flood of articles lavishing praise upon it. I want to get in before that happens and start a discussion about the game.
I bought it for gamecube a few months after its original release because of numerous articles stating that it was really good but nobody was buying it.
Funny thing is, it was definitely well made, but I can’t say that I enjoyed it. It felt like a wannabe Zelda game with a crappy spaceship driving overworld and rage-inducing stealth sections. I found it ultimately unsatisfying was a little confused by just how much of a media darling it was. Maybe my disappointment was a result of these high expectations, I dunno.
So I’m curious – who here has played it and what are your memories of it? Did you think it was as good as the reviews at the time indicated? Are you planning to buy it when it comes out again in HD?
-
Game Hipsters. They ruin everything.
(Hey dudes – sorry I’m a bit quieter this week. Mad time difference and crazy busy running from appointment to appointment.)
-
Man, I’m playing this game right now… but it’s so underground you’d probably never have heard of it.
-
-
It’s funny, because I completely agree but have never found someone with that perspective other than me before. In all fairness I didn’t really get that far in it, but I did give it a good 10 or 12 hours over a couple of days and just couldn’t bring myself to put any more time in. Loved the world and… some of the characters, but I dunno, I’m like you… just didn’t dig it.
-
Well i WAS going to buy, but now you have sewn the seeds of doubt…. I played it on the original xbox for a couple of hours at a mates once and thought it was ok, but lets just say the experience was already somewhat “enhanced” 😉
Had completely forgotten is was coming til i saw that GoodGame are reviewing next week. -
This one time, I installed it, but it was all like AUGH WHAT IS THIS DUAL CORE MAGIC, so the video ran at normal speed and the sound at 4x or vice versa, so then I uninstalled it.
True story.-
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
I don’t know why, but I find that comment ridiculously hilarious.
-
-
I’m on the side of loving Beyond Good & Evil. The game has flaws, and it may not age too well. However, in my thoughts, it currently sits in the company of my favourites.
I got the game only a couple of years ago. It was in a bargain bin for $10, and having heard tremendous amounts of praise, I thought that I would give it a go. The copy that I found was for PC, so the controls were a little obtuse, and probably made the clunky stealth sections even worse.
I thought the game was fantastic, and the hook for me was definitely the characters and story (and setting!). I found the government control angle, and freedom of speech ideals, really engaging. Add to that an endearing cast, and I was fairly happy to ignore the clunky gameplay and controls.
The game also had some awesome set pieces. I’ll admit, that this is something that will age poorly, since modern games improve scripted sequences with every release. Yet, for its time Beyond Good & Evil’s scripted set pieces would have been super cool.
Finally, I am a big fan of action adventures set in a cool open world, and it ticked that box. The world isn’t huge, but it’s well realised.
So, I recommend this game, if only to drive BG&E sales in the hope that they will finish making Beyond Good & Evil 2.
-
Well there you go, contrasting opinions. I like it!
It’s interesting that you say the cast and setting won out over the sometimes awkward gameplay for you. I found that I totally loved Alan Wake for the same reasons. Yet strangely nothing about BG&E did enough to make me a fan, even though I played it to completion. Maybe my tastes have changed in the 7 years since I played it?
Anyway, there’s no way I’m going to buy it when it releases, but it might be worth giving it another go when the inevitable deal of the week happens. Or I could even go a little bit crazy and play it for free on the backwards compatible, but sadly non HD, Wii.
-
Hey guys… i was thinking..
How would you like $50 for your artwork?
Not right now.. but let me explain.
As i keep making tees (and hopefully selling them) i won’t be able to rely on my photoshopping skills alone. I need art. Porpper art.
Seeing some work on here i have been absolutely gobsmacked.. I can’t remember if it was Shane or Sughly who posted their cartoon-ish stuff.. i’m pretty sure it was the latter.. but either way it’s exactly the stuff i want to be able to put on a shirt..
So i came up with the idea to maybe host a little thing every month or 2 here in TAY where i would be able to get a new design, and the designer would be able to get some money for his work so that i could chuck it on a tee and people can wear it around…
So tell me, artists of kotaku…. Yay or nay?
-
***waits for Jimu***
He will be all over this like something of a similar color from which it was derived.
While i’m waiting, which site you going with loops?
Redbauble or Tacopuss?-
Toctopus, mate 🙂
I will be still using redbubble for some designs as well, if they are really killer
I sold a tee on redbubble and all i got for it was a lousy $3 compared to the $10 i make on Toc… and considering the tees are more expensive for peopel to buy in bubble, it’s just bs
-
-
Yay! I’d be more than happy to colab with you on something loops! I’m open to the idea of doing something like this, just for the record 🙂
Click on my name if you care to see some of the stuff I’ve done. Actually it’s not easy to navigate, needs a better ‘scrapbook’ style section, so might be easier to look on deviantart: http://sughly.deviantart.com/
-
MAD SKILLZ!

That’s seriously awesome to hear – you are definitely one of the people i want to collaborate with. I’m a massive fan of the stuff you’ve done thus far, and i’m very confident that anything you do would be epic.
I also think the design you made for the Marvel V Capcom comp would look AMAZING on a tee.

YAY!!!
Oh wait, I can’t draw.
NAY!!!
😛 -
I can’t draw to save my life (thankfully, that’s never happened) but my writing skills pay the bills (literally). If you start to get pictures that are in dire need of captions I’ll do it on the free. Or maybe for a shirt. I don’t know. I could help you with concepts too but you seem to have that covered. Long story short I work in advertising/marketing for the money but I stay for the creativity.
-
I had to draw to save my life once, luckily they didn’t ask for a good drawing, and so with my wonderful argumentative skills, I weaseled my way out of it, learning something about friendship as I did.
-
-
if you accept pictures made in microsoft paint then i will be glad to help!
HOLY CRAP – JIMU!!!

I’ll save you if you come to UNSW next time 😛
can anyone explain why australian psn dlc prices are still higher than the rest of the world?
it’s usually $15.95 aud vs $9.99 usd, no more than $12 would be fairer.
-
Because we’re foolish enough to keep paying..?
-
Because we have more money (based upon a higher-than-world-average minimum wage, healthy welfare system and weirdly valued dollar), we have higher associated costs of living (rent, food, and especially luxuries).
In short, we’re a market fit to gouge.
A country with more disposable income = higher prices… not more stuff.

It’s the 4th post, and it contains 100% win.
😀
-
Haha! Took me a while to get it though 🙁
-
i don’t get it.. does that make me dumb?
-
It took me ages, but I think it’s about the cars “faces.” The first one looks kind of sad, and the second one happy. But I could be wrong.
-
😀
seriously, its a hint 🙂 -
Come to terms with the literal look that’s on the picture, you’ll see. I lol’d bigtime after I figured it out in seconds (Mainly cuz I make the same sort of joke IRL xD)
-
I don’t think that anyone has mentioned this but JB HI-FI have a new best price for the Nintendo 3DS: $298! This includes an accessory pack. I’m not sure if there will be a better price than this, so better get in quick!
That new BF3 trailer has single handedly convinced me to buy it at or soon after launch. It looks absolutely stunning. Granted, I’ve enjoyed BF2 and wasted many hours LAN’ing with my brother in BF1942 and BFV. And I actually think this may be a military shooter where I enjoy the campaign. This is from the person that only liked the CoD4 campagin, does not like/care Medal of Honor, and thought Bad Company 1’s story was rather bleh. I has high hopes. The engine looks like magics.
So. Taking Dawn was amusing(in a good, 80’s way), Slash was pretty cool, but the G’n’R songs sounded like a bad cover band…and Coheed And Cambria were awesome. They finished with ‘Welcome Home’, the song from Rock Band that got me into them in the first place.
Left before Slash finished because I was bored, and I’m too old to stand around for ever. 😛
-
Suppose it was too loud as well 😛
I had never heard of Coheed and Cambria until i saw them play support (Foo Fighters here in NY maybe..) for someone else a few years back, completely blew me away. Hip Hop may be my main love, but some things just can’t be denied.-
Just remembered it was Linkin Park in NY cos Chester came out and sang with them.

Hi all
Family is sick minus me, so I am on everything duty at home!
I love the DA2 demo and I dont wanna tap attack forever.
I would love to design a shirt for Chuloopa, I am a computard so I would need someone to colour…
My intarluv to u all, I am going to beddybies!
-
*raises eyebrow
Sooo, nurses uniform then?-
That would be a good shirt design!
-
Yes it would be I guess! Just the words are enough I think. Make it so Loops!
-
-
Hehe…was thinking the same thing.
Hope the fam gets well soon Jimu.
-
-
Cool beans – would be good to have you on board once i get it started 🙂
Thanks for the interest, mate.Depending on what we go with it may not even need color. Sketches and lines can look pretty damn good sometimes.
Not to sure how many people on here watch Good Game, but there is a really cool interview with Richard Garriot (maker of Ultima and living legend) that you can download here

Only one day to go til Chemical Brothers! w00t! I’m so excited, though perhaps not as much at LittleJJ :0 She’s quite beside herself!
Oh! And as I type this, I see Seamus on The Morning Show!! That guy sure gets around!
Soon I shall be getting my hands on both Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and NBA Jam! Yay!!! So excited!! And I didn’t need to convince the wife of anything! Pure WIN! It’s gonna be like Xmas all over again!!
Any of you got those titles on xbox and wanna hook up for some multiplayer when I get em?
-
Man i want both of those games soooooo baaaad!!
*sulks*
You’ll have to tell us your thoughts when you get them! 😀
-
I’m there for NBA Jam! So so can’t wait for some boomshakalaka when it arrives. Though if my online multi time with Jimu that I promised is anything to go by, I might not get around to joining you for a while 😀
(I promise Jimu, we will play some PD before the end of your trial!)
-
Oh Jimu, I saw your message about playing Perfect Dark a couple of days after you sent it and figured it was too late to take you up on the offer. But I didn’t realise your days on Live were limited, so next time I see you online we’ll give it a go. Maybe lateish tonight (after 10?) or tomorrow.

ok

So if anyone knows anything about MMA (i don’t) you might know who Paul Daley is…
So the new MMA brand we’re now stocking (Lojak Religion) just picked up Daley – who has a crazy left hook..
I managed to find his most recent fight from BAMMA5 in the UK, and he clean knocked his opponant the f*** out…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q_2wDkZ-Cg
Seriously.. ouch… just ouch.. apparently he’s next in line for title in Strikeforce…
It’s all a bunch of mumbo-jumbo to me.. but still.. ouch…
-
I discovered I have an MMA app on my new phone yesterday! Dun really get what it’s for, but yer.. there you go!
Oh.. i’ll be starting a shirt soon which will be somehting along the lines of
American mcgee presents
clive barker’s
TOM CLANCY
a xxxxx game/production
Basically i need as many egotistica dude who include their names in game titles as possible.. i know there is at least 3 more.. i’m just having a mental blank.
Little help?
-
There’s always the “old classics” that is, people like Sid Meier, Tim Schafer, umm, I can’t think of the others. Back when putting your name on the box meant something, because you /were/ a name.
-
Oh hey, I wouldn’t have thought that Tim Schafer would be named on the cover of his games. But, I just checked out the cover of Brutal Legend, and there it was in a suitably metal font. A big ego, or a marketing decision?
I have never felt confident that an individual’s name on the front of the box ever meant something, even “back in the day”. It has always felt like it undermined the team’s credit. Taking the Schafer example, all of Double Fine’s games feel like Double Fine games to me. Since the latest downloadable titles by Double Fine were created/led by individuals other than Schafer (Tasha Harris for Costume Quest, and Lee Petty for Stacking), I have to assume that the team really are responsible for the quality and creativity of Double Fine’s titles.
-
It all stems from the 90s heyday of creativity, when adventure games, as well as some others, really hit their stride. At that point, you were able to sell a game based on the name of the designer alone, for example, a Tim Schafer game, would always have a very particular feel to it. It’s more than just he “designs” the game, he also directs it, and I’m fairly sure writes most of it, so it’s very much a game based upon his work. Peter Molyneux used to be the same, although, I’m not sure if he ever put his name on the box. By seeing the name, it was a testament to the quality of the game, not only because of the designer, but also because it was a risk for them, because if it was a flop, their name is right there on the box.
So, it’s a remnant of the 90s (mostly, late 80s as well, Sid Meiers Pirates! was 1987), that has stuck around with some designers, because they already had it going.
This got carried over into the noughties by people such as American McGee, who, let’s face it, just his name was enough to sell it, not on its strengths, but just because his name is weird.
-
-
-
John Romero. Doesn’t get much more egotistical than that….
-
Sid Meier
And though not strictly on the box: John Romero
And I bet Jonathan Blow’s next game will have something like “From the maker of Braid”.-
Sid Meir! That’s a big one..
I really did enjoy pirates, however
-
-
How about Sid Meier?
And it was John Romero’s Daikatana, was it not?
-
Cliff Blezinsky… John Carmack…John Romero…
-
Cliff doesn’t put his name on boxes though, does he?
-
ahh dun think so.. i think i just skipped over that detail in your post 😉 He’s just got a fat head so I thought I’d put it out there 😉
-

Screenplay borked by David O. Russell.

Jordan Mechner

-
Hideo Kojima… and that other bloke who always wears the leather jacket and sunnies….
-
Forget my second suggestion (Tomonobu Itagaki) doesn’t put name on games
-
-
Man, I love that game (preferred the sequel though, felt so much better overall).
I have to point out though, in the case of PoP, it really was a Jordan Mechner game. It was made by him, and umm, so far as I’m aware, that’s it (although his brother was used for rotoscoping the animations).
-
The sequel was definitely my fav too.
That “fight” against the mirror prince at the end…
***Wipes away nostalgic tear***-
Man, I sucked so much at it though, I don’t know what it was, but I’d be fighting him, be doing fine, and then suddenly I would just start mashing keys, and I’d die. Still, given I was like, 2, when it was released, I’d say I was doing quite well (actually, I played it a few years back, obviously).
-
-
-
Who painted that cover?
It rules!-
I think it’s by Paul Dushkind…..
-
-
-
Stuart Black… of the game, ‘Black’.
So is anyone else as super super excited about the new Zelda as I am? Seeing that new footage… gah, it looks so beautiful 😀 I’m reaaaaally loving the art direction on this one. Squeeee!
Alright sorry about that, just needed to let out some fanboyism right there…
-
wait.. there’s a new zelda?
And i am still yet to play any of them?!?!DAMN IT NINTENDO! STOP IT!! I NEED TO CATCH UP!!!
I really want to play my my copy of twilight princess more that my copies of ocarina, majora and wind waker.. it just looks so.. cool!
-
I can’t comment on Wind Waker (never having played it myself), but Ocarina and Majora’s Mask are far better than Twilight Princess in my opinion. TP is prettier, though, in a brooding sort of way.
-
Twilight is the suckiest suck. So maybe a good place to start. All up from there!
-
-
I go overboard in my attempts to avoid spoilers, so I have not watched the latest footage for Skyward Sword. I have, however, seen the videos from last year’s E3 and it looked amazing… A fantastic art direction!
I am super excited!
-
Yeah it’s a good idea, I did that with Ocarina and I think it made the experience of the game that much better. Usually I try not to but I couldn’t help myself! But there’s nothing spoilerish, just a montage of fighting and a quick shot of some villian looking character.
-
-
I’m ready for a new Zelda game about now, and Skyward Sword is looking to fit the bill nicely. And, of course, there’s Ocarina 3DS 😛
Totally non game related, but it was my fourth wedding anniversary yesterday! Yay us!!
-
YAY congrats!
-
CONGRATUMALATIONS!!!!
Bee and i have out 4th aniversary this month on the 18th… heyy i think we had this discussioon around the same time last year.. lol

CONGRATUMALATIONS AGAIN!!
Keep on truckin!
PS. Check out my domination in M+M… man, not having the net at home is doing wonders for my armies 😛
-
Congrats to you both!! And yay NBA Jam!!!
-
Ahhhh now I get it… wife says no, wedding anniversary, niow welbot suddenly has it… it’s all making sense now.
Oh and congrats! 😀
-
hahah she never actually said no, cos I never asked her.. I just assumed no would be the answer were I to do so 😉
-
-
-
Nice Work,
Achievement Unlocked! -
Thats great news, congrats to you both! 😀
And have fun at the concert, they will blow her mind!-
Hahah I certainly expect so! A friend of mine in the US who’s seen them before said they have the most awesome laser light show in their concerts! Really looking forward to that! Just hope it doesn’t piss down rain. Weather reports at present say possible storms tomorrow, but who knows if or when they will happen. Just have to make sure I take a towel with us in the car so we can dry off should it actually rain, as it’s an outdoor venue 😐
-
-
Keep up the good keepin up!
Well… my present to you is already taken care of last night I think xD
Grats though mate
-
Gah that was meant to be a reply to Welbot! 😛
-
🙂 Many thanks indeed sire!
-
I’ve been a bit busy over the week for uni week 1!
Glad I’m done with classes this week, time for some gaming before I do any prep work for week 2, woohoo 😀
-
I’m still terrified of starting next week 🙁
-
The start is always the worst. I was a nigel for so long, before I finally got courage, made friends, and settled in. Then it was gooder.
-
The start wasn’t the worst for me, I knew people in most of my courses, I started talking to new people, all was going fine. Then I just… Stopped. And everything went terra-bad.
-
-
Hey Jimu, have you seen Voices Of A Distant Star?
-
Love it!
Prefer the shorter version, more of a tear jerker! All that guys stuff is fantastic!
I’m over it being hot…my brain is all melty.
In other news, I now hate Yakuza 3 for MAKING me play golf. I hate golf!
-
Oh I’m totally with you on the hot bit.. This is just terrible at the moment. Hope the rain that’s due will cool things down significantly.
-
I think apart from that one introductory time you play it, you never have to touch it ever again.
Although, if you’re a substory completionist, there’s one where you have to score under par, and then get a -2 in a quick 3 hole match.Speaking of which, golf games. For so many years I hated golf just because it was so boring whenever I happened to see it on TV. Then a few years ago, I pick up a non serious one for the PSP (Hot Shots maybe?) and I’m actually kind of good at it and find it strangely riveting. There’s a weird sort of satisfaction grabbing an Eagle (-2) or something, especially in Yakuza since it seems to aim for a more realistic, if simplified version of golf.
I’d have never thought a golf game enjoyable, but here I am.
Alright, there’s been plenty of anime discussion of late, but can anyone solve my woes in trying to find good European animation? I saw ‘The Secret of Kells’ last night and it was absolutely amazing, and now I need more! I’ve been trying to track down a copy of France’s ‘Lascars’ with subs since it looked interesting, but to no avail. I’m a big lover too of Chomet with ‘Triplets of Belleville’ and ‘The Illusionist’. Anything else people can recommend…? I’m desperate for suggestions!
-
Oh and ‘Persepolis’ of course, which was also amazing.
-
Hells yes for Persepolis! The graphic novel is amazing, I’ve yet to see the movie.
-
Not helping! I NEED more animation people!
(but yeah Persepolis is so good. See the movie, you won’t be disapointed!)
-
-
-
-
I found it with subs and the original Title and soundtrack when I was visiting me pal Capt. Jack Sparrow! *wink wink*
-
The original title was “Gandahar”
-
-
Hmmm… seems pretty interesting. You obviously have seen it and recommend it? Sci Fi + French animation = promising.
-
It’s old so the animation is up there with the old Lord of the Rings toon, but I loved it.
Try for the original everything though! I imagine the american dubb is stooooooooooooopider.
-
-
-
Probably not what you’re after and I’m confident it’s actually American but one of my favourite animations is Drawn Together.
It’s sort of on topic for Kotaku as It’s a parody animation and several of the characters are based on video game characters including Ling Ling, an Asian battle mouse that causes children to have epileptic fits, and Zander a video game elf that’s on a never ending quest to save his girlfriend and just happens to play an ocarina.
Defiantly NSFW and I would recommend against watching if you take offence to anything, ever. I don’t think there is a stereotype not made fun of in that show.
-
Nor entirely sure what you’re after, but I did enjoy the French animated movie “Dragon Hunters”. Got it on Blu-Ray really cheap and it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Something slightly game related…
I NEEDZ IPAD2!!!!!
Yep good old Steve has finally brainwashed me 😛
Something else slightly game related…
CURSE YOU 7GB WIRELESS BROADBAND USAGE LIMIT!!!! CURSE YOUUUUUU!!!!!
So I won’t be around that much(here or on FS’s MC server) till about Monday…

Just found this sweet email from Ozgameshop , having an accessory sale.
All the good shit?…SOLD OUT
-
They had something ridiculously crazy like Microsoft Xbox Headsets w/ mic for $3.
Needless to say no wonder they sold out ;P
-
I never got that email but thanks for the headsup! Just bought myself an Xbox controller charger and a headset. 🙂
Re: Mass Effect
Commander Shepard song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeY-2ovpF9c
At first I was like “…wat” but then I was like “what.” and then 3:10 rolled around and that was pretty cool.
-
I just knew she was Krogan! Her and Roseanne. Quite a catchy toon really.
-
I thought the little leopard pics were adorable hehe. Quite the catchy tune.
LOL @ some of the krogan pics
*sings*
you can fight like a krogan, run like a leopard, but you’ll never be better than commander sheapard!
dun nun na na na nunnn
It’s rather catchy…
I had the best goddamn tech call today.
Her: “Fistbeard, I have the best computer issue for you”
Me: “Oooooh, that’s a bold claim.”
Her: “How do I remove a snake from a computer?”
Me: “…….”
Yes, a snake crawled into a computer, and after pulling it apart, not finding it and realising it is most probably under the motherboard, I decided to get my work to call the “Snake Man” (As we get assloads of snakes in this area), and now there’s a Dell computer sitting inside a fridge.
Best. Day. Ever.
-
Oh Snake. He’s getting with the times, and not hiding in boxes, but in computers. Master of stealth he truly is.
-
Hahaha!!! Comment of the week Mr. NotR.
-
Hehe, thanks Strange, but Fistbeard’s comment about “BRRROOOOTHERRRRR!!!” has got me watching this again. It’s pure gold:
-
-
OMG Fistbear, you’re lucky to be alive! he msut have been going for zero kills playthrough.
Seriously though that has to be one of the most unusual computer issies i’ve heard of. I did have a friend who had ants in his but that’s nothing comapired to a snake.
We kept wondering where the smell of burnt ant was coming from…
-
I had a scorpion in a customers laptop.
Thankfully it fried itself. -
I’m mildly concerned that you can recognise the smell of burn ants…
-
I knew someone would pick up on that.
Don’t worry, as a young boy I only ever intentionally condemned one insect to a fiery death out of curiosity. It was a caterpillar (do they actually count as insects?) I remember it in vivid detail and it haunts my conscience to this day.As for the smell of burning ants well, ants have evolved to have very distinctive smells when they die to warn other ants and I was in the scouts as a youngen. Sometimes that firewood you thought was just a stick turns out to have ants living in it.
They gave their lives so that the troop could stay warm.
-
-
-
I think it was Liquid Snake, all I could hear was “BRRROOOOTHERRRRR!!!”, and a pair of sunglasses lying on the desk.
-
Wait, you heard the sunglasses!?
-
No, I heard the voice and noticed the su-… Damnit!
-
-
-
I’ve been at home sick and gave into temptation and bought minecraft. I’ve gotten the of how it works on single player. Any room still on the kotaku server?
So just like last week, there’s another Ghibli double on at the Valley’s Palace cinema tonight in Brisbane – Ponyo and then Totoro! Woo! I’ll definately be there for Ponyo, will see how I’m going after for Totoro. As much as I love Totoro, watching 2 movies back to back last week was a little tiring… I’m not the young spritely boy I used to be :'(
-
Oh and FYI, the films screened last week were Jap audio with English subs on original film print. So, so awesome…
-
Damn! Ponyo is kickass! I’d be there, but I’ll be up at the riverstage in the botanic gardens shakin my ass to the chemical bros!
-
Based on the weather, I’d say slipping in the mud rather than ass-shakin’.
I really wish you hadn’t told me it was subs instead of dubs, Sughly. Now I really want to go, but I can’t.
-
Ah, ’tis a shame neither can go! But yes, Ponyo is so so kickass, it’s by far the best looking blu-ray I own… and I own lots of blu-ray. I would go so far as to say it’s the best Ghibli, based on such pure storytelling and characters, and with such high and luscious production value. Sigh… so can’t wait for tonight 😀
-
D’oh, I still haven’t even SEEN Ponyo!
Still have seen the end of Nasica either, fell asleep twice!
-
Spelling fail!
NAUSICCA
HAVEN’T
Also …why is that my handle this morning???
-
*Nausicaa 😛
Yeah I saw it for my first time last week with the Mononoke double. I see why they put them together… they are the same story! Kind of. But still, very cool. I love that old 80’s sci-fi animation look with the bugs and whatnot.
And what is the go with Creative Director…?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/03/03/3154349.htm
Wait…what!! So sick of reboots and remakes, this one is particularly odious.
-
oh dear… the internet needs to prepare itself.. this is gonna be one hell of a shit flinging match!
-
“We have long-term goals for the franchise, and are exploring multi-platform concepts, not just limiting ourselves to one medium only”
Sigh. If they do make a reboot, there will be fans that will flock to it and watch it, whether it be curiosity if it’s good or not, or they just want to introduce new people into it. It’ll sell a heap, and even though it’ll be crap, the producers will interpret the huge amount of sales to mean that they can make another 5 movies, thus leaving a giant s***stain on the original.
-
No…. dear God… NOOOOOOO!!
Worst. News. Ever.
-
That flik is timeless. What a pointless remake!
That should remake something that is less AMAZING!!!-
Worked for Spiderman and X-Men, both sequels were way better. Then they took it one step too far and made a third installment for both. And both sucked.
-
Speaking of X-Men… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg_cwI1Xj4M
-
-
-
I don’t know… there is a lot to work with there.. if its done right it could be good..
I’ve been going through a bit of Cyberpunk thing lately.. started with reading William Gibson’s books again, then playing Deus Ex through.. then watching Blade Runner on Blu-Ray a week or so a go.. at the time I was thinking ‘I wonder what they could do with this now..’
I agree with NotoriousR tho, do it right once, not over and over to death!
-
Cat laser bowling FTW!
-
Cat laser bowling is an epic win!
-
haha that cat is so cute! Reminds me of Maru desu!
Just got confirmation that ozgameshop has posted my POKEEMANZ white.. could take 2 weeks, but:
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!
http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/03/03/charlie-sheen-quotes-superhero/
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO funny!
-
Winning!
Was bout to put those up myself.
Played some Golden Sun:Dark Dawn at Nintendo World today. Have you played Jimu? Think you would like it….
I’ve been thinking of a new desktop, here’s what I have so far:
Thoughts? I haven’t made a desktop in years, and haven’t been a PC gamer for a while now, so I don’t really know what’s good in terms of graphics cards. All I do know is that I like Nvidia, and the GTX460 seems like a decent choice. Though I’m not sure if there’s any point if I get the Sandy Bridge i5. I am confused. Help?
-
I wouldn’t advise getting that ram. It’s a triple channel kit, and that motherboard only supports dual channel. You’d be better off with an even number of chips.
-
I could do a pc with same specs (some different brands) with 8gb of ddr3 for $1197
-
As for your q about sandy bridge, they are more efficient that 1st gen i5’s but you wont get any of the graphic advantages with a gpu in there. Still.. 1st gen with gpu vs 2nd gen with gpu.. 2nd will slightly outperform the 1st gen, so it’s really up to you if you wanna spend the $$
-
Hey Belwot, I’ve been wanting to get a new computer, are you willing to tell me what I should expect to get for around $2000?
-
I sure can.. would prolly be easier to work out the details over msn or steam or something.. give me a holler next time you log in and we’ll have a chat
-
-
-
-
I’d recommend against getting a 400 series card, while they’re cheaper, now that the 500s are out, they have major heat problems, and use wa-ay too much power. I am saying this only based on what I’ve heard though, so I could be wrong. Sandy Bridge’s are about 16% (if my memory serves) faster per clock than a westmere (I think) cpu, so look at the pricing, before deciding which one to get, I guess with a Sandy Bridge, you might have the ability to turn off your dedicated GPU, and run on the inbuilt one, which would reduce power usage, but I don’t really know.
So, I’m no help at all.
-
Go for a gtx 560 instead of a 460, they sell for about $280, i’ve heard that it’s a worthy succesor
Also, there was an issue with candy bridge and the sata3gbs ports, i’m not sure if they’ve fixed it yet, so you might want to look into this.-
Woops
*sandy bridge not candy bridge :l

Holy Crap!!!!!
Bungie have announced that their next game will be a MMO action game.

Cash cow?

well.. considering halo was originally supposed to be an mmo, i’m not really surprised 😉
Site seems to be a bit broken…..I saw a full page of comments and then it disappeared!
Heading home on Sunday, 24 odd hours of flights and transfers 🙁
Hope everyone has a good weekend and will catch you all Tuesday or Wednesday.
Hey! What happened to Jimu’s pokemon comic link? I was waiting to reply to it… but now it’s vanished! Well, whatever did happen, it was an awesome, awesome link.

It seems Kotaku swapped servers last night and I think some of the comments got lost in the process. I’m guessing the ones from just before they started.
McWhertor made a swear on page 1!!!
Who the f**k is moderating today? 😉
Firstly Good Morning Kotaku Readers!
Today you will be learning about… Pokemon!
Are you a boy or a girl…
What is your name….
Did you know that in Pokemon…
1. If you buy Pokemon on the day it’s out, in your country you will be able to collect every Pokemon available on that game.
2. Before the internet was even implemented, you could still receive every Pokemon on that purchased game. Nintendo built the Gameboy with serial ports for multiplayer and among other uses, a link to computers used to transfer limited edition Pokemon at local events.
3. Since 1998 you can transfer Pokemon from one system to another, therefore keeping your entire Pokedex. Basically completely backwards compatible.
4. When Pokemon Diamond / Pearl came out, you have been able to download, from the internet legit copies of the limited edition Pokemon. This requires the correct date told by Nintendo and an internet or local Wi-Fi connection. Sometimes Including an actual event locally, or at even some McDonalds (In Japan they certainly do).
5. All Pokemon are categorized within the Pokedex and have unique-individual stats. EV’s and later on natures etc. On the newer games it is possible to tell if the Pokemon is cheated or hacked (As some person suggested). If you look at the descriptions where it tells vast information about the Pokemon in question. You will find that it tell’s the owner where the Pokemon was found amoung other stat’s.
6. This is all true, what is stated above cannot be said 100% of the time. There may have been SOME Pokemon, still unable to catch or only available on certain hard to get (Japanese) Games. And other small issues, but you get the point.
Now my Question is:
WHAT DO YOU THINK IT TAKES TO CATCH THEM ALL!?
A 20hr race through the game, to beat the elite four?
It is an enormous effort, and a fun one at that.
Something I never did as a kid.
Oh and did you know you can never actually beat Pokemon… I mean it’s based on the lives of trainers. And the achievements they receive with their Pokemon.
Sorry for the rant, an barely relevant information it has been a long night.
I hope I have inspired others to have another look at this amazing title.
Now… to buy a stack of Gameboy’s and all the Pokemon games again… This shall be a tough achievement. If only I had kept my Pokemon since I was a kid. My team would still be with me > <
Has anyone kept all their original Pokemon!?

I still have my original game (Pokemon Yellow) I hadn’t brought a pokemon game since then until Heart Gold and after all those years of not being used when I tried to fire it up my save was corrupted. All my pokemon died of neglect :'(
The comment box disappeared on Friday night saying that everything was moving to new servers but I’m still seeing the old site? What is going on?
Can I still comment here?

Looks as though you can! 😉
Any room for a new player in the kotaku community minecraft server?
I was off sick last week so I decided to give it a go and sure enough I’m addicted now.
I asked near the end of TAY last week but nobody replied. I’m going to be and optimist and put that down to all the kotakraftiens using vent instead of TAY to talk to each other now.
If I am welcom my email address for the detials is g_m_it(at)hotmai()l dot com
