   191,000 in Doodle Jump? I have that game! Thanks for the new challenge 😀

   My recent favourite achievement is 100% completion of Super Meat Boy and getting into the top 200 on the leaderboard.

   It’s harder to say when you look back further into the past. I am pretty proud of beating Sonic 2 on the Mega Drive without losing a single life. I know that beating some of the few games I owned back in the day was REALLY tough (e.g. The Ninja for SMS, Double Dragon for Gameboy) – but I have no idea whether they are actually as difficult as I remember.

      Oh, and beating Goldeneye on N64 in 00 Agent difficulty and then unlocking all the cheats! I remember that one of the levels or cheats (The one with Moonraker lasers?) was insanely difficult, and I only managed to beat it when I was I had chicken pox and was in some kind of crazy hyper-focused trance.

         The only one I couldn’t get was the Facility cheat. Finished 00 Agent mode (rock hard) but couldn’t finish Facility in under 1 minute 50 secs or whatever that ridiculous time was.

            That was the one where the scientist you needed appeared in a different location each time, right? I seem to recall running to a certain spot over and over and if the correct guy wasn’t there, restarting. Then stuffing up blowing up all the fuel tanks. Then having everything align perfectly but still getting killed by the guards.

            Ahh! The trauma is all coming back!

         I agree on the Goldeneye N64, I finished that game and unlocked 007 mode and all the cheats. Then Rare released codes that people could type in to Unlock all the cheats I was so pissed, I have never felt more ripped off in my life. Oh and finishing both Banjo games 100% haha nothing like a collector challenge. Ah the memories.

   My best scores…hmmm.
   Scoring a copy of Manhunt at Games Wizard before the Govt. hit it with a banstick.

   Scoring GTA and Goldeneye 64 in Sydney after all copies were sold out in Newcastle. The 2 hour train ride home with those games, talk about anticipation. Almost as good as knowing you are getting laid for the first time.

   Finishing 1942 at the fish and chip shop on the way to school in 6th class and having the school call my parents and police thinking i’d been abducted. Lets say I turned up rather late.

    For a very short time the UK version of the Official PS2 magazine came with a feature on it’s DVD called “Pro-Dojo” it would feature gameplay videos of people doing ridiculously hard things in games. Usually things like speed runs or giant combos.

    Anyway, one of the videos was of of the game WWF Smackdown: Just Bring it. The video had a guy playing the “slobberknocker” mode (where you just fight opponent after opponent for 10 mins)He had pinned 51 wrestlers in 10 mins. I thought to myself “I can do better than that” So after many failed attempts. I finally did it using Big Show. I had managed to pin 55 wrestlers in 10 mins.

    I’ve never seen anyone do better.

    2 achievements i’m particularly proud of.

    On the Arcade game Bombjack back in about 1989 (making me 14 at the time), i played for what seemed like 2 or 3 hours, getting to level 150, having about 15 lives up my sleeve and had won 9 free games. As you may or maynot know, you could not continue with another 20c. The only reason i didn’t go further was that i was simply tired of playing it. Did get quite a semi circle of onlookers.

    My other is on another Arcade game Rygar.
    Can proudly say i was easily the best in town at that game. Completing it and getting around 12 million points on the 1 credit. God i love that game.

       Not feeling comfortable with that Rygar score, i had to chat on facebook to my highschool pinny parlour rival for a more accurate total.
       The high score at the video shop in Beechworth VIC sat at about the 7 million mark. A lot less than 12 but still bloody hard to achieve.

    My Ghost Valley 1 track that I made in Modnation Racers. Last time I checked it has still been downloaded more times the Kevin Butler’s track.

    Also, beating Nancy-MI847J in Tekken 6 and getting the platinum trophy. Took me years!!!

    Most of my proudest gaming moments were a while ago…
    – 100% completion of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (N64)
    – 100% completion of GTA: Vice City (PS2)
    – catching 150 Pokémon in the original Red version…
    … Had Mew, and not Ivysaur, so technically not 100% complete >_<

    – Only thing recently that’s I’m proud of is finding my first pearlescent weapon after killing Crawmerax in borderlands for what had to be the 100th time.

       Oh God dammit… Why did you have to remind me of Pearlescent weapons? Finding one of those has to be the biggest achievement of my gaming life, not because of how rewarding it was, but because of how painfully torturous it was. After farming Crawmerax and the vault glitch non-stop for weeks (or maybe it was months, it’s all a big blur) I FINALLY found one with my Siren. I was overjoyed, until I realised it was a low damage single shot rifle, then I was annoyed. Then they announced they were raising the level cap, making all my endgame farming a huge waste, and I stopped playing and never looked back…

    Whew, seeing this made me remember six of my best:

    – Scoring 85,000 plus five world records in-game on a Track and Field machine at TAFE last year.
    – Scoring 120 takedowns in Road Rage on Burnout Legends on PSP on January 1st 2010.
    – Scoring 52 Takedowns on Burnout 3: Takedown on PS2.
    – Finding the last 25 gems to open the Super Bonus Round on Spyro 3 on PS1, which annoyed my sister to no end, as she had been looking for them for days.
    – Killing park patrons on Rollercoaster Tycoon by dropping them into water for the first time.
    – Making my first track in Stunts.

    Getting an 1000x combo on Tilt to Live and a high score I was very proud of, around 20 million. Not sure how that stacks up against the rest of the world but it sure was satisfying… until my iPhone decided to delete my scores.

    I’ve been working on and off for 11 years now I guess on getting all the titles in Vagrant Story. The only two left are for using each weapon 5000 times and killing 5000 of each enemy. I’ve got a ways to go seeing as I’ve only recently picked up the game again after a couple years of inaction and only manage 15 mins in the morning train rides to work.

    I would say my best achievement would be finishing I Wanna Be The Guy… but I never did that, and probably never will.

    I’m not really sure what my best achievement would be but maybe something like fully completing everything in Resident Evil 4 (professional mode, mercenaries etc), I dominated that game.

    I also usually feel pretty accomplished when I do absolutely everything in a really big game, like Fallout 3 or Final Fantasy 8/9/10

    I’m arguably the best in the world for Zone Mode in WipEout Fusion on PS2.

    Unfortunately, I was never able to replicate the results in WipEout HD, could never properly adjust to the controls.

    Possibly my greatest achievement was completing Sonic 2 on the master system with all gems in under half an hour…while I was lying on my back looking at the screen upside down.

    Needless to say I played that game a lot.

       Also not sure if it counts but I can solve a rubiks cube in under 3 minutes. 😉

       I also worked on the top (critic) rated iPhone game ever (Real Racing 2) but I’m also not sure if that counts.

       And finally I actually completed on of those text adventure games (go north, get ye flask etc) without hints. It was a Scott Adams adventure, Treasure Island.

    So Trials HD for me is the big one. Getting 98th globally and 3rd in AUS was the peak for me.. but my proudest moment for Trials for me was neither of these.

    My best Trials HD moment was getting the platinum medal on Midnight club. This is a tournement that has the first 6 extreme tracks back to back with no restarts. To get the plat you have to do it all in under 6 faults. I did it with 5.

    I have never been so nervous in my entire life. I was literally shaking for over 10 minutes once completed. The strength to just maintain your composure through the last few tracks is insane…

    My greatest gaming memory would be playing Sonic The Hedgehog on Mega Drive before it was released in Australia (Both the game and console). My dad had a friend at Ozisoft who brought it over for us to check out.

    Finishing Reach on Legendary, some levels took me hours, and I died more times than I probably killed covenant! But my efforts paid off and I completed it on Legendary, my first Halo game played on higher than Normal.

    Only other game I completed on highest difficulty was RE5, but that was split-screen with unlimited ammo (too damn difficult without it, given limited inventory)

    Finishing the original Donkey Kong Country 101% in 56 minutes. At the time the world record was 50 minutes, so I was only 6 minutes slower. Then some douche posts a 44 minute run. Dang.

    Considering I’m not a hardcore speedrunner though, I still think 56 minutes is a pretty impressive 101% run effort.

       Oh yeah, I also managed to hit the top 10 on the competitive online ladder in the original Dawn of War, although I never actually played in any professional tournaments (was totally going to try out for the World Cyber Games Aussie team back in 05 or 06, but after 1 guy showed up at the Melbourne tryouts, they didn’t bother even running the qualifiers in Sydney for DoW…wtf).

       Perhaps I played that game a little too much, but it was pretty awesome. Pity DoW 2 was so balls.

    Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

    For the *MASTER SYSTEM*.

    I played that game soo many times in my youth (since I never got a Mega Drive or a SNES, I missed a generation), I have every square inch of that game burned into my brain.

    Shit, just off the top of my head the bosses included Robotnik and falling boulders, Mechanical bird in the clouds, Stupid robot seal, Mechanical pig-ball thing, mechanical ramming pig-ball thing (Gimmick Mountain Zone!), Silver Sonic, and Robotnik in the game’s final Crystal Egg Zone and that fucking full screen electricity shit.

    I can beat every stage with a 40 second time on average, apart from the last 3 zones after green hill, which average me around 1 – 2 minutes due to conveyer belts, gear cogs and platform riding.

    I want to make a speedrun of it. MASTER SYSTEM 4 LYFE!

    I have a 13 second lap on Ghost Valley 1 on Super Mario Kart using Mario. This would have put me in the top ten on the Twin Galaxies records but I didn’t record it cause I didn’t know such records were kept at the time.

    Also pretty pleased that I 100%’d Red Dead Redemption. I’ve never done this with a Rockstar game before but I was really enjoying the world so I kept playing.

    Also enjoying pwning noob on COD: Black Ops. For the last four months my KD has been about 2.2 which isn’t amazing but it’s a huge improvement for me over MW2.

    My greatest achievement was winning the Mattel/K-Mart SNES Castlevania IV National competition. The Super Nintendo had just hit the shelves, there wasn’t even 10 games out for it yet in stores. I walked into K-mart with my parents and saw a lady in front of a gaming setup. I signed up and had a minute to get the highest score I could. I got the best time for the day and got a cool shirt. I went back each day for a week winning each day. I got called in because I had the best time in the state and thus qualified for a national linked up game. Where we would all play at the same time with the highest score determining the champion. After my game I was disappointed because I missed one crucial money bag drop. They called me into the Kmart managers office and gave me a luncheon while they waited for results to come in. The phone call came and the manager goes “Ive got some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that you are not qualified for the state champion prizes.” I was like shocked thinking Id be DQ’d… “You are now the national champion! You have just one a 51cm stereo TV and 10 SNES games!” I was overjoyed and my mum was like “I guess we better start saving for a Super Nintendo.” After some photos with the manager and staff I went home with the TV. Mattel sent out the 10 games that werent all actually released yet. For a month I couldn’t play the games, so I read and re-read all the instructions books and stories (Zelda 3 was the best). When I finally got a SNES, Gaming took over my life =]

    I can clear 40 lines of tetris in 1min 46sec
    I beat the world number 2 in Burnout Paradise
    Completed N+ multiplayer with a friend and we have never spoken about it again… the horror.
    Made an entire Zombie Panic server sing “Afternoon Delight”
    and I learnt you can speedrun the original Bad Company in 2hours (just make the waypoint and the enemy dissapears)

    The time my friend and I finished a four player multi-objective level of syphon filter-the omega strain with just the two of us. completing all objectives under the par time with a second to spare. Was so much co-ordination and practice required. We had to meet at a few set points to give boosts over fences etc or lend fire support. Then run off to our own set objectives. The best co-op experience i’ve ever had.

    The simple thing was they gave the par time. Nothing happened if you didn’t make it. you could take longer. But that goal of “it can be done in this time limit” drove us to perfection.

    Finishing Dead Space 2 on Zealot and only using the plasma cutter throughout the game. Towards the end I resorted to the tactic of stasis then getting the hell out of there – and the final boss was a two hour struggle so when I finally beat it I jumped up off the couch and screamed like a little girl, while my hands were still shaking.

    I wanna say that getting the platinum trophy for Borderlands was a massive effort. Don’t know of too many who got that. Finishing Flashback on a Amiga in one sitting. Probably one of my favourite action/platformers and I see that they rebooted it for iPhone. No where near as good. Would love to see it redone with todays graphics. Playing and finishing Super Mario Brothers on original gameboy, without the batteries running out, and on the way from Mt Isa QLD, to Brisbane hahaha original Gameboy. Does anyone remember playing the old (1990) Amiga game Gods??? Was also visually stunning for its time.

    When I was 14 I won the first (non-import) Nintendo 64 in New Zealand. It was about 8 months before they were released NZ, as the release was delayed.

    Radio station KCC FM held a comp at the high schools around Whangarei where the kids with the highest score in Super Mario World got to play off for the console plus Mario World and Street Fighter 2.

    I won at Dargaville High School, then won the final by 7,000 points. Made a lot of friends that year…

    There are probably a lot of these, but the one that comes to mind from about 8 years ago is this:

    Killing a chopper in Desert Combat by bailing out of my plane, landing on the cockpit of the chopper which was hovering about 300ft in the air, dropping explosives on it and jumping off while pushing the plunger..

    Would have been a lot more impressive if my chute had opened and I hadn’t splattered all over the desert

    i have something very serious to tell you, to tell Electronic Arts.

    What makes them think Battlefield 3 will sell when BC2 (bad company 2) still has major bugs??

    Believe me, i wish that, if i did e-mail them. it would not go to some minor who would hit the delete key, thats where you Kotaku people come in. The weight of your voice carries a reputation, and that of its followers.

    Why should i buy battlefield 3? the scope still unzooms itself, the “reload weapon” won’t get the fuck off my screen, the hit boxes of buildings are glitched so badly snipers can’t be shot in certain spots.

    I really like this game, i do. But these issues are going unresolved, so why should i play BF3? won’t it get the same treatment? because they WANT us to move on down the line of one of their biggest franchises?

    I beat “Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard” on the hardest difficulty. Extremely painful, but I forced myself to complete it. Can’t tell you how many times I died to that instant kill sniper.

    Last night in fact I finally beat General RAMM on Gears of War after about 15 attempts. I bought that game in December 2009 – at that point I was a shooter n00b, now I’m OK at them – I got stuck on the first Berserker, those dudes with the Torque Bows, The Second Berserker and for a while those flying things in the last level, and finally RAMM. I consider beating a game seemingly invented to punish me a real acheivement.

    One of my best gaming moments was beating Slash mode in Bushido Blade, with the promise of being able to play as the guy with the gun (I always thought it was a joke, but it’s true).

    One of my most disappointing gaming moments was finally playing as the guy with the gun in Bushido Blade. It just wasn’t much fun.

    I know this is stupid, as it’s not really a “real” gaming achievement, but it’s one of my earliest gaming experiences.
    I must have been like 11 or 12 when I played the Star Wars: Episode 1 game on PC (I know, cheesy, but I loved it!). Anyway, the Mos Espa level was a breakaway from the normal levels of the game and lets you explore/quest in a would-be sandbox setting.
    You have to walk around as Qui-Gonn and try to get things done that will eventually get Anakin on your side and ready for the race. I, however, set out to “conquer” Mos Espa. This was particularly challenging due to the brutish guards, Jawa’s breaking out the heavy artillery and on one particular corner, some guy randomly chucks a thermal detonator at you.
    I eventually “succeeded” (some people weren’t killable) in the end though, and when Anakin cried out “I won’t help a murderer like you!”, it made it all worthwhile.

    100% completion of Metroid: Zero Mission without any use of a walk-through.

    The difficulty in getting to the last energy tank ranks well above any other platforming challenge I’ve ever faced…

    I think mine would also be beating the mercenaries mode in RE4(every level with every character) and unlocking everything in the game.

    Also beating Gargoyle’s Quest on the original gameboy. I pretty much got it when it was released but was terrible at it. About a year and a half ago I went back to it and got through it. That felt pretty good. Partially because the gameboy reset every time you squeezed it a little too hard:)

       Played D2 for 4 years back then and never did that fucking Zod rune drop. I did find a Sur rune though :). I remember an ohm dropping in a party run, I can still hear the rapid clicking and subsequent swearing when I realised my inventory was full. Good times on bnet.

    I was playing the God Of war re-release and I was doing that stupidly annoying spiky pillar thing in Hades and dying a hell of a lot. I got pretty close at one point after about an hour and then died. I reloaded and being in the right zone I managed to finish that stupid section. But as I was enjoying myself I suddenly received a gold trophy celebrating the fact that I had “Finished the spiky pillar thing without taking any damage”. I’ve read forums where people talk about how hard it is to get that trophy and I love that I managed to fluke it.

    Getting 100% completion and unlocked the museum in Ratchet and Clank 3 is still one I’m proud of.

    100% Super Meat Boy is the first thing that comes to mind. 5944 deaths and countless hours swearing and death-gripping my controller were well worth it for that 20(?)G of goodness.

    Also, coming second in the national final of the GH:WoR tournament last year was pretty sweet too 😀
