This Could Have Been The Greatest Game Boy Commercial Ever Made

This video turned up a couple of weeks ago, claiming to be a “banned” Nintendo commercial. And that’s not even the most interesting thing about it.

Supposedly from 1993, you can almost instantly pick out the distinctive voices of the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and ODB. What’s more, the beats are apparently supplied by Prince Paul himself.

The commentary accompanying the clip – which has been kept alive by the graffiti artists involved in the shoot – says that the commercial was never shown because it was “too ill”. Which likely means that either network TV (or Nintendo top brass) decided that in 1993 the depiction of an illegal act in connection with a kid’s video game handheld was a little much.

We asked Nintendo last week for comment on what exactly happened with this clip, whether it was banned or simply never green-lit, and as of today still haven’t heard back.
