2K Sports has laid another seven-figure bounty on a perfect game thrown in its Major League Baseball game. Players have had about a month to practice with MLB 2K11’s pitching and fielding; the chase for 27 straight outs officially begins at noon EDT tomorrow.
It’s a simple proposition: Pitch a perfect game using a single pitcher – which means retiring all 27 batters from the opposition without one reaching base for any reason – video tape that start to finish and send it to 2K Sports, and you could find yourself $US1 million richer.
Fun fact, did you know that residents of Arizona, Connecticut, Maryland, North Dakota and Vermont are ineligible? It’s right there in the list of rules, with which you’ll want to be very familiar if you’re setting out to do this. 2K Sports requires the entire feat to be filmed start-to-finish, with no interruptions, and the process is about as intricate as a Japanese tea ceremony.
Remember, to be eligible, you must use the actual starting pitchers and lineups from any of the 11 games being played on the day you pitch, using MLB 2K11’s “MLB Today” feature. So your best bets would be, in order, the Angels’ Dan Haren (pictured above) against the Kansas City Royals (worst hitting team in the game); Seattle’s Felix Hernandez against the Oakland A’s, or the White Sox’ Mark Buerhle against the Cleveland Indians.
Last year’s contest began on the day of the game’s release, using lineups from spring training games. Wade McGilberry of Semmes, Ala., claimed the prize on the first day of the contest, registering a perfect game against the Mets, using Atlanta’s Kenshin Kawakami.
