Be Kind To Children And Buy Them The Correct Thor Video Game

There is a Thor movie out. We hear it's OK, at best.

There are Thor video games out, and, they're from Sega, the people who brought you bad Iron Man games. Have they done it again?

We got the Xbox 360, Wii and DS Thor games, played through the early levels of each and, well, we were surprised. As a result, we have shopping tips for all you well-meaning parents out there. If you can, skip the 360/PS3 versions and get the kids the DS or Wii ones. Consult this video for the reasons why.

For the record, the Thor games were made by different teams. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions re from Rise of The Argonauts studio Liquid Entertainment. The Wii is from the Mushroom Men people, Red Fly Studio. The DS game is by WayForward, makers of Contra IV and many other portable side-scrollers..

Bonus tip: Do check the free Thor game, too. That one definitely gets a tip of our feathered helm.

That's a somewhat shallow assessment of the movie's Metacritic performance, I think. I mean, if you're going to use the phrase "at best", there are at least a dozen reviews listed on there that put it above "okay".

As for the games, they do seem pretty bland. Shame.

Having seen the movie, it has a bit of action at the start, followed by slow politic's, You can't make a super hero movie with out Romance, Thor's not a jerk, Hey is that a cameo from an Avenger?, Action at the end.

If your paying more than $8.50 for a ticket (www.cineplex.com.au) I would advise against it.

As for how to make Thor the game, no movie tie in, scrolling beat em up, 4 character (there where 3 other Asgard warriors in the movie) and have awesome bosses. Think Capcom scrolling Beat em ups like Final Fight or Sega's Streets of Rage 2 or 3. I want special moves.

This the case with all the 'every platform' games like Force Unleashed, Transformers or... any movie tie-in. The 360 and PS3 versions will be fairly well-made and look great, the Wii will be a poor version by a smaller studio, etc.

Thor has a 79% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoe based on 150 reviews... I don't think you should use "Ok at best" to be fair, it should at least be called a "Good if not great movie"
