Chinese Street Racing Is The Closest You'll Get To A Real-life Video Game

Street racers dart in and out of oncoming traffic at night, hitting triple digit speeds across multiple stages. This isn't a video game. Or, well, it is a video game. But it's also what these Chinese street racers did in this incredible video series.

In posting this we must point out how despicable, awful, terrible, unconscionable, and otherwise crappy this is. Speeding across populated highways with no consequences of any kind absolutely sends the wrong message. Do not try this at home.

This would be better if If it were a video game like Need For Speed, because these guys would have already been spotted by the police and helicopters would be dropping barrels of explosives onto the road. If this was Gran Turismo (and with the video quality it's GT2-esque) someone would have pushed it too far and crashed into the wall.

But it doesn't happen. Amazingly, the Honda S2000, Acura Integra, and other cars featured in this roughly hour-long film manage to cross a giant chunk of China without hitting anyone or anything. In terms of capturing a real life street race this series, called "Back Up", is in a class of its own.

Just don't try this at home. This is why video games, slot cars, and track days exist.

Hat tip to Matt!

Whats the bet that a Current Affair will rip this off, and mention chinese students racing in Australia. Then more revenue cameras, cops, fines, etc. fromm GovCo

Meh, I reckon you shouldn't post that, you're doing them a favour, that's exactly what these guys wanted, to be posted around on blogs and websites, and you're just going to encourage more of that despicable stuff, which soon or later always ends with someone dead...

These guys are crazy. Doing this on chinese roads is just insane! They have the worst road surfaces I've ever seen!

    Real life Initial D!!!!

Ah the roads are in Hong Kong. People there drive like shite to begin with. I been on Mini-buses which almost drift on mountain slopes.

So... based on your logic... Cool videos shouldnt be posted because somebody might replicate it.. hmm.

Why dont you go join the FCC or family first buddy.

btw I watched the first vid and was uninmpressed (cars are a meh thing for me..) I just wanted to stick it to space monkey. people like you are the reason we still have an R rating.

Not really mate: video games are work of fiction, and playing them is still the domain of fictions. These guys here were in fact not doing any fiction at all, they were illegally racing and therefore risking others people life to make that video - so if you post the bloody video you're just helping them in their stupidity.
I would have no problem at all if the video was the most crazy insane peace of video game racing footage, including carmageddon stuff, or even if it was a movie footage of a work of fiction. I just think it's silly to give attention to a bunch of douche risking other people life for their thrills - and attention.

Why is Kotaku even showing this? Is there really a gaming link because there are video games that have street racing elements?

What's next.... show a video of a guy killing people in a war?

I don't want to get all preachy but poor form Kotaku.

these guys are speaking cantonese driving in hong kong highways, they've played too much wangan midnight maximum tune arcade :>

This is nothing new. Just take a look at the "Getaway in Stockholm" videos ;)

YAWN That first video nearly made me slump over on my keyboard in boredom.

Had to wake myself up by watching these two instead:

Heartstopping from the master himself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SK6RZdb-Ooo (try doing that in a game, it aint as easy as it looks!)
