The Modern Warfare 3 Files: Exclusive First Details On The Biggest Game Of 2011

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is coming Nov. 8, 2011, Kotaku has learned, delivering with it mammoth battles that engulf a dozen cities around the world including New York, Paris and London.

Multiple sources have shared details of the game's story, art, sounds and game modes with Kotaku, noting that the game will reshape the landscape of the Call of Duty franchise, bringing an impressive number of eclectic settings, deep multiplayer gaming and a story that ties up nearly all loose ends from previous titles, including the final moments of key figures in the series' history.

While we haven't seen the game in action ourselves, we've gone to great lengths to nail down as much as possible the veracity of our sources. We believe that the imagery and chief details are accurate. That doesn't mean things can't change before release, but this appears to be a full run down of where Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software is on Modern Warfare 3 as they add the final polishing touches.

The game opens moments after the cliffhanger ending of Modern Warfare 2 with the US struggling to stave off a surprise Russian attack. The singleplayer campaign will ping-pong players around the world as they take on the multiple throwaway roles as a Russian Federal Protective Services agent, SAS Operative, tank gunner, and AC-130 gunner as well as key characters from previous instalments and new recurring characters. The game will feature about 15 missions, kicking off with the invasion of Manhattan by a Russian force and wrapping up with a final encounter in Dubai.

The plot, as described, seems to be keeping with developer Infinity Ward's habit of delivering complex, short sequences punctuated by lots of gunfire and scene changes. The game also has players take control of several vehicles, returning gamers to the AC-130 gunship as a gunner and plopping them down in a tank as part of a U.S. armoured Division.

The singleplayer campaign, which appears to wrap up most of the unanswered questions and character fates of the first two Modern Warfare titles, also introduces new characters who appear to be destined for future Modern Warfare games, especially two Delta Force operatives codenamed "Frost" and "Sandman".

Multiplayer in the game returns with a chunky list of playable maps as well as two types of Spec Ops modes: "Survival" and "Mission".

Activision, the series' publisher, still hasn't officially unveiled any details about the game, though executives have said that a new Call of Duty game was coming this year. Last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops, developed by Treyarch, sold more than seven million copies in the first 24 hours and within six weeks reached $US1 billion in sales.

We've contacted Activision for comment and will update the story when and if they provide reaction.

God I can't wait for this since Black Ops is still unplayable.

What makes you think this'll be better?

It's not Treyarch that are making it.

I went back to MW2 about 3 weeks after BLOPS, it's just a much better game IMO.

i went back to Cod4 within a couple of weeks of each its just a better game

VOLK looks like Brian Cox and YURI looks like Stephen Lang, the guy who played Colonel Quaritch in Avatar.

I'm with you on the Brian Cox ref. straight up.

Not even going to bother about buying it. The CoD series has really failed me since MW2.

Black Ops is a joke so why should I think this is going to be any better?

And under such short notice too, just over 2 years of development since MW2?

That only tells that they haven't put enough time into it to get all the bugs out of it that us gamers would have to deal with several months after release before they get off their fat arses to actually make a patch to fix all the problems but then makes it actually worse and unplayable just like Black Ops was.

Well wasn't Black Ops made by a different developer? Infinity Ward makes the Modern Warfare franchise, some other people made the World at War and Black Ops games. Comparing apples and oranges a little bit.

MW2 wasn't great either, plus I want change!

I wan't something new! By the look of things this will be a reskin of MW2. Also the multiplayer on all platforms was terrible because of IW's idea of IWnet. Nothing has been new since MW2.

And I'm sick and tired of overpriced map packs!

Oh and also they didn't "rush" the game. Every CoD has been made in 2 years and this one had more time for development considering Sledgehammer games is doing most of the work and Infinity Ward is helping. 2 companies, regular development time and then some, and the best game series known to man. HAha you dumb as hell

You say that, a ton of people say that, but nobody ever stays with it. Everyone that destroyed their MW2 disk went and bought a new one. CoD will always be the most sold and game of the year just for its reputation. You say you won't buy it but we all know you will...

Awesome! Can't wait for this. Day 1 purchase for sure. What? Oh... sorry, I thought we were talking about Battlefield 3. My mistake.

      Dam Freakin Rite

MW2 arrived to much hype, yet was a fairly average game.

Black Ops arrived to even more hype, yet was a poor game.

Sorry, I'm completely over these bombastic war shooters. Time to move on.

Yeah, all those low review scores and poor sales.

That doesn't mean shit, cant keep flogging a dead horse

If biggest, you mean commercially, then yes. Otherwise, that title belongs to Portal 2, L.A. Noire or Skyrim

Hahaha, I read the "Yuri" tag and thought it was something else...

Black ops pisses me off, in that it's multi-player is poor and recycled. Treyarch should only do single player games, they suck at multi-player.

I think I'm pretty much the opposite of the internet when it comes to the MW games. I hated the first one because of its cheap crappy infinite enemy spawns, so I was totally put off buying the second one until I found it cheap... and was surprised by how great it was, MUCH better than the first. I haven't played black ops yet (don't really want to after I read it has infinite enemies like MW1) though.

I love how everyone writes that they will not buy it when most of you eventually will. So... I agree I hate BLOPS but I play it...yes I will buy expansions...yes I will buy MW3...guys...this is entertainment...

    Another COD game -.-
Im have yet to be impressed by any of these games. How much is anyone willing to bet it will just be the same thing as the last one?

wait so mw3 which is a reskin of black ops which is a reskin of the last 3 cod games. is the biggest game of the year.

not portal 2 or duke nukem forever.

I understand how people say they hate BLOPS multiplayer, but to say it's worse than the unbalanced shit that is MW2?

Another year, another COD game... How exciting!!!

Does anyone care about the plot of any CoD game? I thought the singleplayer was just a trainer for the MP...

Boring, i'm not giving money to that revolting bloated whore of a company called activision, they can die in a fiery grave

Wow everyone is so aggresive yeah blops multiplayer is my dogs recycled shit but they are doing great w/ zombies also the modern warfare series same shit different year but they are fuckin insane how bout we give Mw3 a chance to breath its only may and people are making assuptions that itll be shit give it a chance people!
P.S SUB TO MY CHANNEL NO VIDS YET BUT MY CAP CARD IS COMING IF U SUB ULL SEE!!
