What We Know So Far About Soulcalibur V

Since last night’s sneak peek at Soulcalibur V during Namco Bandai’s Dubai press event, game director Daishi Odashima has been tweeting like mad, revealing fresh information about the sixth instalment of the beloved fighting game franchise. Mind the 17-year gap!

In his mad post-event Twitter rampage, Odashima ironed out some of the details of the game, due out in 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Soulcalibur V picks up 17 years after the events of Soulcalibur IV and stars a new character named Patroklos, who is the son of Sophitia and Rothion. You can see him reflected in the full teaser trailer above.

With nearly two decades separating games, players can expect a bit of a roster revision, though Odashima has confirmed that Nightmare and Ziegfried would be making an appearance, joking that they get stronger each game, so he’s gotta be careful. He also mentioned that the character creation from Soulcalibur IV should be making an appearance in the new game.

Interesting new information, but my favourite Tweet from Odashima has to do with the game’s name.

Actually, I asked the company if we can call the game “Soul Edge 2” but they said “no”.

For the latest information on Soulcalibur V, stay tuned to Odashima’s Twitter page. The man obviously loves to share.

Expect to see much more on Soulcalibur V during E3 2011 next month. Until then, welcome back to the stage of history.
