You Won't Knock Boots With Anyone New In Mass Effect 3

Up until now, Mass Effect has been about shooting bad guys and sowing your wild oats. In the series' third game, however, your oats will be planted in more familiar ground.

BioWare has told PC Gamer that there are no new romance options in Mass Effect 3, the emphasis in the final game being on resolving the relationships you made in the first two titles.

"So this is more about how you, if you're a new player, how you start these romances with the existing characters" says BioWare's Casey Hudson. "If you've had relationships with previous characters, then it's your opportunity to resolve those. And again, it's in the context of a ‘World War II'-type setting, so you don't really know if you're going to survive, or what kind of a world is going to live beyond the story. So it's kind of that situation."

What can make that more interesting is the creation of some serious love triangles between your current and former flames. If my playthrough is only memorable for one thing, please let it be fisticuffs between Liara and Miranda.

BioWare: Mass Effect 3 has no new love interests [PC Gamer]

I think it is better this way - they already had 9 LI's in the first two games (Kaiden, Ashley, Garrus, Liara, Tali, Miranda, Jacob, Thane, Jack) you could possibly throw Samara in there if you count the "rejection" scene which might bear fruit in ME3. With Casey Hudson also confirming same-sex LI's that will make most of the 9 options open to both sexes. Thats quite a lot...

I've heard that there wont be any new love interests created for the ME3, but they have never said existing charactersare off limits; I'm willing to bet you can shack up with Joker if you haven't gotten with anyone in the previous games; I think if you think of your dissussions in ME1 and 2 as set up for wether he likes you or not, theres a good chance of this

He puts a new spin on the phrase "be gentle with me", gotta be careful or you'll snap him

can i have a baby with Tali?!!?!?!? please make it so! lol

Who does that tentatively confirm as possible companions then? Garrus, Jack, Tali, Miranda, Jacob, and (more tentatively) Kaidan/Ashley and Liara? Have I forgotten anyone?

It confirms no one, tentatively or otherwise, since not all love interests in ME3 will be squad mates, but Garrus, Kaidan/Ashley, Liara and Tali have been directly confirmed by BioWare (along with new guy James Vega).

    Show me Tali's face DAMNIT!

I'm ShiggyNinty and this is my favourite Mass Effect sex related story of the day.

"If my playthrough is only memorable for one thing, please let it be fisticuffs between Liara and Miranda."

    My thoughts exactly.

But I like to sleep around!

    Mark and/or US Kotaku editors:

That interview is a month old. It's been subsequently retracted by Casey Hudson, and I'll quote his tweets here:

On a question about the PC Gamer article:

"Don't believe everything you read in print (or online for that matter). We have some new (and unannounced) characters that will be cool and quite different from what we've done before."

I then asked him: "So that's a rejection of the article that suggested no new romances? You seemed fairly sure in the interview. Change of mind?"

and he replied: "Sometimes you can't accurately condense a complex work into an attention-grabbing headline. And some of our plans are spoilers.."

Then in reply to another question on love interests: "Love interests won't all necessarily be permanent squad members in #ME3 . Interesting new things happening in that area."

Then, finally and best: "Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m&f chars, reactive to how you interact w/them in-game."

On being asked about the change between the PC Gamer article and tweets: "Yes, our plans evolve over time, and are guided by your feedback. Interviews are often from earlier stages of development."

Sorry for the long post. In short, this article is now outdated. Bioware have rethought their romance options for ME3.

So, Senator Udina is fair game?

If there's a man in the universe more in need of some good hate-sex...

One thing to keep in mind may be that whilst there are expanded LI's for Shepherd, another interpretation of what he originally said, and perhaps a more accurate one based on the subsequent revelations, would be that you won't be hooking up with any new characters in the game, only the existing characters? That is in line with both the original interview and the subsequent info I've seen.

For example, they brought Miranda in as a new LI for ME2, that would come under the new LI and new character category, whereas if in ME3 they introduced a relationship with Aria from ME2, that's a new LI but not a new character.

Just suggesting another angle to consider in interpreting :)

Damn. No Krogan love interest? You lost my money Bioware.

Just to let you guys know, Bioware has recently come out and said that there WILL be new flames in ME3 from Casy Hudson's twitter:

"According to Hudson, there will be new love interests in Mass Effect 3. What's more, they will finally add lesbian and gay options, something that was notably absent in Mass Effect 2.

Hudson said on Twitter that the idea that there were no new romantic possibilities in Mass Effect 3 was based on "an oversimplification" of an answer he gave over a month ago. The discrepancy between the two answers, he said, was simply a product of the game evolving over time."

I was so dissapointed I couldn't keep that Krogan in the picture.

I quite like it this way. When Mass Effect 2 came up and presented more love options, I was conflicted and ended up playing ME1 all over again just so I could have a different love interest. If they presented new interests in ME3, I would've had to have gone through the process all over again.

They need a Galactic Jerry Springer.
