Unsurprisingly, Gearbox forum posters are talking about Duke Nukem Forever, and while they can’t seem to decide what was offensive and what was just par for the course, almost everyone agrees: the final boss pissed them off. SPOILERS AHEAD: http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php [Gearbox]

Considering most new games throw away boss fights all together… I thought it was pretty good. I mean, Killzone 2 AND 3 had the worst endings I’ve ever seen in video games. KZ2 you fight an easy dude that can go invisible, KZ3 you get an abomination of a space shooting section knocked off from Halo Reach, then the game just ends. Other games that needed epic boss battles: Far Cry 2, Bulletstorm, Fable 2 & 3, Crysis 2… ummm… I could go on.
On a scale of one to ten, any boss fight at all is better than no boss fight… I’d give it an 8, (where all those other games got zero) because it was the first time in years that I’ve really sat down, finished a game in one or two go’s and felt satisfied at the end. That is RARE now.

Though I don’t think everyone necessarily wants a boss fight I think you have a fair point. The games that do try and do them aren’t all that impressive. Farcry 2 I don’t think needed one, however the final fight could have been a little more impressive.
I haven’t played Killzone however I agree that Fable 2 and Crysis 2 both had pretty poor final fights. I haven’t seen the boss fight for Duke yet, I do think the game is pretty average but I might push on just to see what people are talking about

Maybe I’m just too easy to please, but I enjoyed the final Boss fight. It was staged, got increasingly hard and allowed you to use almost all weapons in the game.
Took me a few tries to get through it as well.
I was playing on the hard setting, and maybe that’s why I enjoyed the game. It was challenging.

I really don’t understand why people had an issue with the last boss. Mr Explody said it best. At least it had a boss…multiples of ’em in fact. There’s lot’s of bad to say about DNF…the bosses definately aren’t one of those things to complain about IMO.
