From Hairless Hitmen To Heiress Heroines, This Is Square Enix’s E3 2011 Lineup

Square Enix’s booth at E3 is going to be a total sequel fest this year, with new franchise entries for Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, Dungeon Siege and Deus Ex. Are they bringing any games that aren’t sequels, prequels, or reboots?

Squeenix sure picked a fine time to grab Eidos, didn’t they? Of the major games in this year’s lineup, three of the biggest titles are a direct result of the 2009 purchase, including Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the Tomb Raider reboot, and the return of Agent 47 in Hitman Absolution. All we’re missing is the new Thief game, which some of us (okay, me) are hoping makes some sort of surprise showing.

On top of the Eidos sequels, Square Enix brings one of its own in Final Fantasy XIII-2, the Lightning-powered follow-up to the 2010 role-playing game that people just adore. No really, everyone loved it. It was fantastic. I might be lying.

The company will also be showing off Heroes of Ruin, a 3DS strategy role-playing game with a strong focus on gaming with friends and connectivity, taking full advantage of many of the more interesting features of Nintendo’s latest handheld.

So there’s one completely original game. Tack on Deep Silver’s Dead Island and Ankama Studio’s tactical combat fantasy MMO Wakfu and you’ve got a party.
