You Don't Have To Play Battlefield 3's Silly Preorder Game To Get Its 'Physical Warfare Pack'

Don't worry, Battlefield fans. You don't really need to play the silly pre-order incentive game with Battlefield 3, at least not if you want the "exclusive" weapons, ammo and add-ons that Electronic Arts is dangling in front of first-person shooter enthusiasts.

Earlier this week, Battlefield 3, the other huge military shooter of the fall, did some wrong in the eyes of sane people who like playing video games by announcing the "Physical Warfare Pack," a downloadable add-on available to those who pre-ordered the game. Battlefield fans worried (rightly so) that the pre-order incentives would give some players an advantage, that we'd have to plunk a few bucks down to get a cool shotgun and cool shotgun shells.

DICE says that's not so. The "Physical Warfare Pack", they say, will be available to everyone, for free, after the game launches.

"I would like to start by clarifying that the Physical Warfare Pack is a time-based exclusive," writes DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson. "If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3 at a retailer carrying the Physical Warfare Pack, don't worry. We will unlock the contents of the Physical Warfare Pack for free to all Battlefield 3 players later this year."

Yes, you'll still need to wait a little while for EA and DICE to unleash the contents of the Physical Warfare Pack on Battlefield 3 players worldwide, but there's no need to rush out and pre-order the thing. They're going to have millions of these things, like, everywhere. Promise.

Giving them an advantage for a limited time is still giving them an advantage cuz they'll get those guns sooner while you cannot get them without the pre-order.. it's better if they just remove it entirely and offer skins for guns/players instead, that'd be more neat

It doesn't really matter if they get a automatic shotgun earlier. As long as we build up our own shooting skills in fps games we can kill anyone with any weapon.

So you'd be happy having just a pistol while everyone else gets automatic rifles? If you practice really hard you can kill anyone with any weapon.

I see where you're coming from, all guns can kill but each does have their own purpose, their own situations in which they shine. To take some of the weapons away from players that don't pre-order but let those that do have them, they are getting an advantage. It might only be a minor one, but FPS games these days need to be well balanced. Even if it was negligible I would be against it just on the principle of it.

DICE has already said that the weapons you unlock aren't better, just different, just like most of the weapon unlocks in Battlefield games. It's more about giving you a bigger arsenal than a better one.

It only gave players exclusive access to ONE GUN, the Type 88 LMG which in Bad Company, was certainly of no advantage. I don't see what all of the whining was about.

Hopefully it's just a higher level unlock deal ala Bad Company 2.

That way, if we don't pre-order we can still get those weapons as we level up.

Some of the early weapons in BFBC2 were the most deadly and I still regularly use them.
I'm not concerned with people getting early access to token weapons. The majority of people enticed by such offers tend to be less skilled so any perceived advantage is negated by their inability to use the Semi-Auto DeathBringer5000 with limited edition speed stripes and subwoofer as a sniper rifle as they camp in a bush 3km from an objective.

Don't know why people are complaining, every Bad company game did this, and it was never an advantage. The difference between the guns is that minor that I hardly think anyone will actually notice.

If you good at shooters, it wouldn't really matter what type of shotgun or heavy gun you're using anyway

I didn't see the problem in the first place. Just another case of Nerds getting too worked over something that doesn't matter much.

A timed exclusive? I have absolutely no problem with this, it's no different to being up against someone who has advanced the ranks quicker than you. They have more weapons to use than me, but I shall have the same in time.

anyone whinging about this is just impatient.
the game is balanced. just use a different weapon ffs.

If Bad Company 2's anything to go off, then hell no it's not. It's like they give you spud bits for ammo, and everyone else real bullets. 0.o

The main problem with this for me was the fact that if they ran different preorder specials at different stores, then no one person could ever have the complete game (you know, the one that comes on the disk), at one time with just one purchase.

Now that that's been rectified, I have no qualms... until we learn that BF3 is Origin only.

    GOOD MOVE EA!

In unrelated COD:MW3 news, there will still be no dedicated servers and oh did we mention we'd like to ween you onto subscribing to play by offering a free2play/premium elite user service?

I will be seriously pissed if this 'Physical Warfare Pack' is unavailable to Australian pre-orders...
