Nintendo Nixes Future iPhone, Android Games Despite Pokemon Title

The decision to bring a Pokemon game to the iPhone doesn't mean that Nintendo has softened its views on Apple's gaming phone.

Speaking with Bloomberg, a spokesman said that Nintendo's decision to only develop games for its own hardware "hasn't changed and won't change".

While Pokeman is typically only published on Nintendo game systems, it is only 32 per cent owned by the Kyoto-based company, and is still an independent company.

Speculation that Nintendo might be exploring the mobile market first rose when word of an official Pokemon game for the iPhone and Android marketplace hit earlier this week. Pokemon Say Tap? BW is a timing game that has you taping Pokemon cards to music. The free game is due out this Australian winter.

    LOL... Pokeman

While Nintendo only own 32% stake in the company, Dont they outright own the Pokemon branding? I dont have time to go dredging around now to look, but im sure when they brought the company under its wing with its game development/support program that they bought the rights to the franchise realizing its potential.. from memory.

Anyone want to chime in and clarify that for me? I couldnt see Nintendo being stupid enough to let a franchise worth so much money to even have a chance to slip through their fingers.

I think that as publisher they own all the rights, trademarks, etc

The article makes it sound like gamefreak went behind Nintendo's back and made it but I think that for once Nintendo realised they could make some easy money and took it.

Also third paragraph error: "While Pokeman"

    Three words: "Pokemon MMO... when?"

    By Yoda, spoken as if.
