The Coolest, Tiniest New Gaming Platform Hits Next Month

Sifteo, those tiny motion-aware game playing blocks we first spotted at CES, hit this September for $US150 a pack, the company said today.

The toy blocks turned new game platform works with both the PC and Mac and will launch as a set of three Sifteo cubes, a charging dock and a USB radio link to connect the cubes to a computer. Additional cubes will cost $US45 each. The Sifteo store, according to the press release, contains a collection of fun, social and engaging titles across a spectrum of arcade, strategy, language and puzzle games, priced at $US5 or less.

“Sifteo cubes are the first platform to deliver truly hands-on play, combining the latest in embedded computing and sensing technology with a timeless play style,” said co-founder and CEO Jeevan Kalanithi. “We were inspired by great classic games such as Sudoku, Tetris and dominoes when we set out to create the next generation of enriching, innovative and fun games for everyone.”

A software development kit will also be available at launch.

We had a chance to go hands on with the cubes at CES earlier this year. Check out our take on it and the video of Sifteo co-creator Jeevan Kalanithi walking us through the new platform here.
