The Disney Insiders Expo Had More Video Game News Than You’d Expect

It seems like everyone has their own convention these days, so it should surprise no one that Disney’s insiders club hosted the third “D23 Expo” last weekend in Anaheim, California.

The expo is centered on showcasing the best of Disney, with previews of upcoming games and movies, speakers from all walks of life, and plenty of other fun things to do. It’s all about sneak peeks and exclusive content, not unlike Comic-Con for Disney fans. This year, as Coin-op TV’s Robert Welkner discovered, the expo had plenty of great news for video game fans too.

A preview of Kinect: Disneyland Adventures was a given, but at this point that’s old news. More exciting was the news of Wreck-it Ralph, a movie set to release November of 2012. The movie’s titular character is an 8-bit bad guy who wants to be just as loved as the hero from his video game. Previews of the film have been called Toy Story for video games, but the storyline sounds like we’ll be getting something a little more different.

Ralph will be digital animation, but like Tangled and Meet the Robinsons, it is not produced by Pixar. Still, with a cast that includes John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch, and Sarah Silverman, I’m willing to bet it’s going to be a pretty solid film.

The good news is that you don’t have to be a D23 member to attend the expo, which will likely be held in Anaheim again next year. If the Disney/video game trend continues in the direction it’s moving, you’ll probably want to book tickets early.
