The Sexy, Scribbly Art Of Valkyria Chronicles

You wouldn't think a turn-based strategy game would be the type to be called "beautiful", but that's exactly what cult 2008 PS3 title Valkyria Chronicles was.

Every aspect of the game's visual design, from intricate vehicles to a unique "pencilled" graphics filter to some wonderful costumes, was a feast for the eyes, and a big reason why it holds such a special place in gamer's hearts.

If you're a fan of the game (or just its art), we've actually got some news in today's Fine Art: the amazing, large and comprehensive art book for the first game in the series has long been available in Japanese, but Udon has just released an English version.

In case you need to know why and how everyone ends up in their swimsuits.

Loved this game. Not really interested in an artbook though, but that's just me.

Also, why does one of the main enemies in the game even have a swimsuit design? Oh, wait, I know why. :P

Fan service much with that Sylvaria pic? I'd buy that art book. VC's art design is what made me fall in love with the game.

Already bought yesterday. Should be here in a couple of weeks! :D

Valkyria Chronicles 2 on PSP was also awesome. Arguably the best game on that system.

One of my all time favourite games! I only wish they would make another one for the PS3 some time soon.

The art definitely helped make this game what it was. I'm just a little sad the sequels weren't pushed to PS3 as well to make full use of current generation graphics.
