These Are The Best Pokémon Trainers In The World

Thousands of fans flocked to San Diego, California this weekend to determine which six trainers were destined to be the very best at the 2011 Pokémon World Championships.

You wanted more eSports coverage, we’re bringing you more eSports coverage! Over the weekend more than 400 players from over 27 countries came together in San Diego for the culmination of a gruelling season of professional Pokémon Black and White battling. They picked their pocket monsters, trained them to the peak of physical, psychic, grass, fire, dark, ice, rock and ghost perfection, and then had them fight to the faint in this tension-filled global arena.

“The Pokémon World Championships is more than a tournament; it’s a global event for our entire community to compete, have fun, and create lifelong friendships,” said J.C. Smith, director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokémon Company International. “It’s been an incredible weekend, and we couldn’t be happier to congratulate this year’s World Champions for their dedication, their unbelievable talent, and most importantly, their sportsmanship during the entire Play! Pokémon season.”

Yes, yes, sportsmanship whatever. The competition is about bringing more pain to your opponent’s cuddly critters than they do yours. Six competitors proved themselves the best this weekend, and here they are, along with their triumphant Pokémon teams.
