BAM: The Fight Is In Melbourne This Weekend

Fighting game enthusiasts should head down to Melbourne this weekend to watch more than 300 players (including some of the best in the country) battle it out in Australia's end of year fighting game finals: BAM (Battle Arena Melbourne).

Now in its third year, Couchwarrior's BAM will attract more than 300 players over the weekend to compete in games like Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6, Soul Calibur V, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Virtua Fighter 5, and Blazblue. The matches will be streamed live via video, with 13,000 viewers expected to tune in from all over the world.

The event will also feature playable versions of Street Fighter X Tekken, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom and Soul Calibur 5 -- these will be the first public showings in Australia.

In the lead-up to the event, Couchwarriors are also hosting a BAM pre-party at Melbourne's Mana Bar tomorrow (Thursday) night.

What? Battle Arena Melbourne Where? CQ, Event Room 2, 123 Queen St Melbourne When? October 1-2 How much? $35 will cover you for the whole weekend and include entry to venue and allow you to play casual matches. It does not include entry into the official competition. Aww, compete in fighting games? I thought they were all going to get into real fights.

Kotaku does not endorse The Violences.

    I'll be there for sure!

Huge gaming weekend! Hope a lot of people come out to check out the new games and get into the big (loud!) and fun atmosphere of a major fighting tournament.

Will be there with bells on..!

      Uppercut!

Thanks for the feature Tracey! :D
    See you guys this weekend!

Also, for those who can't make it down, the event will be streamed live on; http://www.twitchTV.com/ShadowlooHQ so tune in and support the community that way! =]

Thanks for posting this Tracey. Will we be seeing you down in Melbourne this weekend?

    BRING IT TO SYDNEY!

I can only blow so much money at Galaxy World before I kill myself.

Why wont anyone host a DoA4 tourney anymore? It's such a fucking great technical fighter.

As soon as Dead or Alive 5 hits, I expect we will see more DoA action at tourneys. =]

Why do I always find out about these events a couple of days before they happen :(

    Cant get cheap flights now

Woo, more exposure for BAM! : D See you guys this weekend!

As EXC355UM has said earlier, watch the livestream if you can't make it down. Failing that, surely there'll be various footage up online and I imagine some of the stream footage will be archived too.
