This November Assassin’s Creed: Revelations sends series hero Ezio to 16th-century Constantinople, now known as Istanbul, Turkey. Earlier this month I took a plane to Istanbul, mostly for vacation, but also to check out some of the sights we’ll see — and climb — in this next Assassin’s game.
Istanbul is amazing. I suggest you go. But for now, let me take you on a tour of several of the most magnificent places in this historic city that spans two continents. I’ll show you several places that would perfect for Ezio to climb, all of them subsequently confirmed by AC publisher Ubisoft as either being or not being in the game.
You’ll see Galata Tower, one of the most common sights in the AC: Revelations footage and screenshots released so far. It is one of the signature buildings on the European side of Istanbul. You’ll also see the massive Hagia Sophia, a former church and mosque that seems to have been made for Ezio to climb. I’ll take you to Topkapi Palace and its gorgeous if creepy Harem. We’ll explore the wonderful underground Yerabtan (Basilica) Cisterns and see one location that is unmissable in real Istanbul but just a shade too modern for the 16th century game, the gorgeous Blue Mosque. If only Ezio could climb that place.
