The Arkham City Soundtrack Might Be Worth A Listen

Featuring brand new tracks by artists like Panic! at the Disco and Coheed and Cambria, Batman: Arkham City‘s music might be the first collector’s edition soundtrack I’ve bothered downloading in years.

Free via a redemption code packaged with the collector’s edition of Batman: Arkham City and available for standalone purchase on October 4, the game’s original soundtrack makes every other game’s original soundtrack sound like it was performed on kazoo, which I’d probably dig. It’s got 11 original tracks from Panic! at the Disco, The Raveonettes, Daughtry, Coheed and Cambria, and several I don’t recognise at all.

They aren’t phoning the songs in either. Coheed and Cambria front-man Claudio Sanchez said, “I write in a very conceptual format with the stories that surround Coheed and Cambria, but Batman has a much larger, defined history and rules that go along with it. My goal was to find universal themes from Batman’s existing history to help give the lyrics legs and dimension so that the song could live within that world.”

I’m not sure what that means, but I like songs, and I like legs.

Check out the full track listing below:

1. Panic! At The Disco – Mercenary 2. Coheed and Cambria – Deranged 3. The Duke Spirit – Creature 4. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Shadow On The Run 5. Blaqk Audio – Afterdark 6. The Raveonettes – Oh, Stranger 7. ††† (Crosses) – The Years 8. The Damned Things — Trophy Widow 9. Daughtry – Drown In You 10. The Boxer Rebellion – Losing You 11. Serj Tankian – Total Paranoia

*Bonus Collector’s Edition track 12. A Place to Bury Strangers – In The Shadow

It reads like the soundtrack to an indie film, not a video game. I can easily see this making its way to my iPod in the near future, even if Daughtry made the cut.

  • The Damned Things? Yes please.

Would have liked to have seen some odder bands on there like primus or a mike Patton project. God of War beats this purely because it had Opeth and I’ve never played GOW
