The Space Combat Of Star Trek: Infinite Space

Star Trek: Infinite Space is no Star Trek: Armada, but it is a little reminiscent of the 2000 real-time strategy game. And, hey, it's free!

In this short video, publisher Gameforge shows off a quick space battle between a single Federation ship and a couple of Klingon Bird-of-Prey. I'll be writing up my impressions of the game later this week, but thought you might want to see a bit of the game in action. Sorry it's not longer, but the devs had a time limit on how much gameplay would could record.

It's playable, I'm told, on any computer that can run a modern browser. We're watching it here in the full-screen mode, which gets rid of any signs of the browser it is running in. It's also important to note that this is the pre-alpha build.

The massively multiplayer online space action game will take place during the Deep Space Nine timeframe, lets you play as either Klingon or Federation and will have at least a dozen types of ships for each species to choose from. No hard date has been set yet for the release, just sometime this year.

Oh, bummer. I saw the title and thought it was going to be the DS game Infinite Space with a Star Trek license... this looks cool too.

Played Armada a lot there for awhile after it released. Star Trek games since then have all been pretty 'meh', which is sad.

Did anyone tell them Star-Trek Online is going free2play?

They were probably too far into the dev cycle by the time it was announced.
Looks interesting enough that I might have a look at it

@Reoh I don't think they would care considering how terrible STO really is... I had such high hopes for a proper trek MMO and it shattered them all completely, then gathered up all the pieces and jumped on them before then setting fire to the whole lot.

@AerintheADEQUATE - I wouldnt say all the trek games have been meh, I absolutely loved the elite force games :) and still go back and give them a play through every so often

Elite Force was before Armada though, wasn't it?

And yes, those were pretty kickass. I'd love to see that idea revisited.

I have some hopes for the new Star Trek game they announced based on the newer film(s), but really... I prefer my 'Early exploration/philosophical' Trek to the 'modern Politics/War' Trek type stuff.

Plus I just don't enjoy 'Gears' clones usually... but it's Jim Kirk dammit, I gotta hope ;-)
