Noel Gallagher, the former Oasis songwriter, probably doesn’t remember most of the 1990s. He was out of his mind, doing drugs — maybe even doing them off a glass top Space Invaders arcade cabinet.
In the past, the elder Gallagher hasn’t come off as much of a gamer, blaming the London Riots on video games and once saying Guitar Hero was “better than two goblins trying to fuck a donkey up the arse with a laser beam”. He’s right about that last bit.
In a recent webcast, Gallagher said that while he doesn’t play the Xbox 360 (“it’s f**king nonsense”), he does play Angry Birds, adding, “The music’s quite annoying, but I do like it.”
“I used to play arcade games when I was on the dole in Manchester,” Gallagher continued. “Playing Defender.”
Maybe it was his found arcade memories that made Gallagher purchase a Space Invaders glass top sit-down arcade table.
“I had a table of Space Invaders in the ’90s, which we all used to have a little trick on every now and again — glass top, let’s not take it any further.”
Or maybe it was his love of the white line. Better than sprinkling it on your cornflakes, I guess!
