Battlefield 3 Has Broken Street Date! [Update: EB And GAME Now Selling]

We’ve just gotten word that Battlefield 3 has broken street date. According to a store rep from JB Hifi Chatswood, Target started selling the game early, which has resulted in JB Hifi also deciding to sell the game a day ahead of its release date tomorrow.

We expect all other specialist retailers to follow suit and will update with more news as we get it.

UPDATE: Both EB and GAME have not begun selling the game at this point, but a store rep in JB Hifi Kotara informed us that they’ve just received word that, since one of their competitors have begun selling the game, all JB Hifi stores can now follow suit.

UPDATE 2: EB Games has now confirmed via their twitter account that they are now selling Battlefield 3.

UPDATE 3: GAME has also now confirmed that they are selling Battlefield 3.

Just got an email from Origin that said the game will unlock on the 26th now instead of the 27th. Just tried it then, apparently it has simply moved to midnight tonight instead of 1000 tomorrow.

  I’m pretty surprised by this street date break. Generally for massive titles like this, Street Dates are adhered to. That being said, they should have launched Tuesday night, in line with the rest of the world. MW3 is doing that, and unless someone has the balls (stupidity?) to sell it on Monday, street date won’t be broken.

    Playing early isn’t a street date break. SELLING early is.
    If he snuck a copy out of his store then he has effectively stolen the copy and it is not a street date break.
    If a retailer gets their copy 3 days early and staff put it in a console in the store and play it it isn’t a street date break either as far as publishers are concerned.

    all staff in all store take the games home early, doesnt matter if they say they dont its about selling the game early. staff are the promoters of the game and should get the privlige (forgive spelling) of playing a title early

      I’m pretty sure the publishers didn’t award you that privilege. I might as well say I’ll talk it up to people and generate sales (which is probably true btw) so retailers should give me a copy early.
      
      Also, if you paid for it, and took it home, and you were allowed to do so, that’s pretty clearly a street break.

I got my PC copy today in the mail from EB (all the way out here in Longreach, no less) – and I can’t play because of Origin’s Release Date Authenticator.

It annoys me that people are playing the 360 and PS3 versions, and EA’s do-nothing storefront is keeping me from playing a game I have the physical copy of.

  Most midnight launches are nothing special other than meeting other like minded folk who really, *really* want the game (and the occasional off-gamer smell).
  
  Outside of that, unless you go to a major launch space (ie. Swanston St store), all you’re really getting the privilege of is getting the game as soon as possible.

Quick Question please.

I have the game already installed on my machine (pre-ordered) but when loading it, it starts with a date check. Would the Media have the same thing? If it does then you still won’t be able to play it until you have the right date.

  I’ve got the physical PC version, and I can confim this. You can’t play until the ‘official’ release.
  
  It’s bad enough that EA is forcing people to use Origin instead of Steam, and now this; Steam doesn’t enforce release dates for retail copies.

    PS3 and X360 players won’t have the same issues, because Sony/Microsoft won’t allow that level of control from EA.

      Who operates the EA and PSN Servers for players to connect to for Multi-player maps? If it isn’t Microsoft or Playstation then it would be single player only for the consoles and no multi-player.
      
      I would say this would be more believable then Microsoft and Sony spending millions of servers for each game.
      
      So if you have an XBox or Playstation 3. Can play multi-player maps?

        360 and PS3 multiplayer is done on a P2P basis; there are no centralised servers, one player hosts and the others join.
        
        Therefore they are able to play multiplayer; there were some problems with the 360 version earlier in the day, but they’ve been fixed.

IT IS VERY SIMPLE TO PLAY THIS ON PC, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO CRACK THE GAME AND YOU CAN PLAY MULTIPLAYER JUST GOOGLE FOR THE ANSWERE!

  If you’re talking about the VPN/proxy fix, EA has said it can lead to networking issues and advises against it. I’d take it with a grain of salt, but proxying is hardly an easy fix for your average gamer that just wants to play.

    You only need to enable the proxy to decrypt the exe, and then you can disable it again immediately. You don’t need to leave it running to play the game.

lol they “advise” against it, and this isnt a true VPN or Proxy its just entering an IP address into internet explorer under lan settings/proxy running the date check and taking the info out again, anyone can google and do that or they shouldnt own a PC.

This is rather amusing, after reading this on Kotaku i called the GAME at Armadale (WA) and ask if they had broken street date. They said they had heard nothing about it so i filled them in on the story on Kotaku. They said they would check on it for me, 1 hour later they called me to let me know it was now available. I think i’m going to have a new strain of flu virus tomorrow – H1BF3 🙂

I feel light headed already….

Ummmm, it didnt break street date. I recieved an email from EA (Origin) this morning stating

“Thank you for ordering on Origin. The release date for the preorder product has changed. The product listed below will now be available on 26 October 2011.”

yep, i got the same thing. email from origin saying the release date had changed to today, downloaded the game, installed and then got the message saying the release date check had failed and to come back when the game had been released. Absolute balls. can’t trust origin as far as i can throw it, which isn’t very far considering it doesn’t occupy a physical medium.

I got a call from JB around 2:40pm regarding early release of the game… got my preordered copy, cap, dog tag etc… the lady asked me if I wanted them and I said are you kidding me, that’s the whole reason to preorder…btw the cap is of shit quality lol…damn can’t wait to finish work and play all day long… 😀

I am a videogame retailer, and this totally screwed my day up. My payroll hours and my midnight launch plans. I for one am tired of the big retailers breaking street dates. They should be held accountable for breaking contractual agreements with distributors and face costs that were lost by other smaller retailers like EB and GAME. Now today I am going to have my pre-order customers come in to get their game that is not so new now and are going to be pissed off that they could have been playing it last night, but we simply had no time to call them all at last minute. They may not shop with us again now. Thanks Target!
