EA Gives Hope To Original Syndicate Fans

The Syndicate of 1993 was a strange beast, part strategy, part action. The Syndicate of 2012 is all action, leaving those who preferred the strategy of the original wanting.

And yet there is hope, no matter how small, in the following comments from EA's Jeff Gamon, who told Eurogamer, "The original was such a classic. There is scope to remake it.

"But I don't think it necessarily has to be exactly the same genre. If we did there are probably other platforms which are more suitable for it than the consoles we're making it for, if we wanted to go in that more strategic route, that perspective.

"I would love to see Syndicate as a true franchise again, bringing it back and expanding it out onto whatever platforms it's suitable for."

Like, you know. The PC.

It's something I've wondered ever since the XCOM remake first showed up: if these publishers are spending millions on these big-budget shooters, can they not find room to develop (or at least fund) a small team making a PC game? A new Syndicate strategy game wouldn't need to be a blockbuster. Just more of the original. Only slightly nicer looking.

EA: "there is scope" to remake Syndicate [Eurogamer]

well duh EA made it for consoles.

I doubt there will be an original remake unless the engine is open for modding.

Just release it on GoG.com and watch the money come in. It's hard to imagine a remake really cutting the mustard here.

      This, a million times this.

Great, just what we needed; Another console shooter port.

So freaking sick of publishers developing for the consoles. This article highlights one of the key issues in the pc vs console battle: developing for the console does tend to limit game development as there are only certain genres it can do well, whereas the PC can cover just about every genre available with easy. This is the main reason every game coming out lately is a fps or some variant on that. The console mostly sucks at doing a traditional RPG or in-depth strategy, as we've seen countless times

    What? Seriously, fucking what?
