Hideo Kojima Wants Metal Gear To Keep Going After He Dies

After every Metal Gear game he makes, Hideo Kojima usually says he's done with the series. Sometimes Kojima even asks Kotaku readers to tell his boss that he doesn't have to make Metal Gear games anymore. This time, it's different.

At a recent presentation at USC, Kojima said, "First of all, I just want to say that as long as there are fans who want Metal Gear Solid, as a producer, I will always want to still make them and I want the series to continue."

Continuing, he added, "So even after I die, I still would love to have the Metal Gear Solid series continue."

That's a rather morbid thing to say, but OK.

Kojima added that, like members of the mob, every time he tries to get out of making a Metal Gear game, he gets sucked back in to fix things.

According to the game creator, "I also want to take the numbered series, the official canon Metal Gear, and hand that off to someone."

Wouldn't that mean he'd have to come back in and correct the work of others? Not that it would be a bad thing if he did. It would just mean that, yes, Mr. Kojima has to make Metal Gear.

Hideo Kojima Wants Metal Gear To Keep Going..and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going.

...and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going and going...

No, please stop, MGS4 was the be all and end all game for me. I don't want Snake to have more missions after that, I just want him to rest.

Maybeh clones of solid snake xD? or sons? Les Enfants Terribles style hehe, it could go on forever haha.

The amount of story in the MGS universe, you could make very diverse games based on canon events. RTS games with PMCs from MGS4, play as Ocelot between MGS3 onwards, introduce new characters, the works. I don't think they would have the same magic as the originals but there is definitely a lot of potential.

Snake's story is done though, yes?

They can make The Boss's story

I am concerned now. When people say things like that, they generally know their time is near.

MGS series to keep on going and Kojima to continue making it are 2 different things. All I can say is....

I hope MGS without Kojima doesn't suck

"I also want to take the numbered series, the official canon Metal Gear, and hand that off to someone."
I don't get it. Peace Walker didn't have a number and that's canon. Portable Ops was referenced in MGS4 so that must be canon. Does he actually mean that the non-numbered games aren't canon? Is he trying to say that Rising isn't canon? i thought it had been confirmed as canon.

I'm not 100% sure, the wording IS odd, but I think he means the pre-"Solid" Metal Gear games, specifying canon to exclude the mess that was Nintendo's "Snake's Revenge".

I'd love to see those original two ("Metal Gear" and "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake") remade in the newer "Solid" style. With cutscenes and voice acting and everything. Those two games have not aged well.

They should leave MGS4 as the last mission for Solid Snake, really.

By all means though, they could make one where you play as The Boss in whatever undercover mission(s) she was doing in the years leading up to Snake Eater (she mentions this over the radio in the Virtuous Mission), or maybe one where you play as all 6 members of the Cobra unit, like Portable Ops, only done better (change characters by calling them with the codec)

And as above, it would be cool to play Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake in the new age graphics, but his story must remain ended with 4.

I guess I'll say it first...

Hey Western studios, don't you DARE take MGS and turn it into an FPS! don't you dare!

Would like to see the stories from the boss; WWII and all that jazz.
