This past weekend Blizzard revealed Mists of Pandaria, the new Expansion pack for World of Warcraft that introduces a Monk character class and a panda race. This is a story about the other game with Panda Monks.
Eligium: The Chosen One is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Shanda Games and operated by the fine folks at Frogster. The game features four races and five classes, and it just so happens one of those race/class combinations is Panda Monks. Purely a coincidence. These are completely different Panda Monks, as the official description proves.
On their journey, the panda monks seek the wisdom and experience required to maintain ever greater control over their chi and — when necessary — to use it in combat; because although the peaceful pandas never start a conflict, they carefully observe as events unfold around them and are always prepared to charge blazing into battle should the delicate balance of nature ever be disturbed…
OK, so that’s a little close, but who hasn’t imagined kung fu fighting panda bears? This must be an example of some of that parallel development.
Eligium: The Chosen One is headed for open beta later this year, with a tentative spring 2012 release. If you’re really into pandas, it might tide you over until you can really get into other pandas.
