Capcom’s Bringing Darkstalkers To PSN Later This Month

With the resurgence of Street Fighter and the Marvel vs. Capcom series well under way, there’s one franchise in Capcom’s stable of fighting games that enthusiasts have been clamoring for the last few years.

Ported to the PlayStation in 1996, Darkstalkers sported gorgeous 16-bit art and several innovations that won it a core of dedicated fans. Felicia and Hsien Ko showed up in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 this year but the series hasn’t had a new entry in a long time.

Well, it’s not a new game but Capcom’s announced the upcoming release of Darkstalkers – The Night Warriors to PlayStation Network at the end of November. The Capcom Unity post talking with the news makes no mention of an Xbox Live release but more details are supposed to be forthcoming. The big question, though, is whether this is leading up to a modern-day update to the Darkstalkers franchise. A similar re-release of MvC2 preceded the debut of MvC3 this year and Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono has been talking to fans and gauging support as he’s made the promotional rounds at E3 and comics conventions this year. It’d be more surprising if some other, more substantial Darkstalkers-related thing wasn’t in the works already.
