Kojima: Stealth Fans May Find Metal Gear Rising ‘Hard To Get Into’

I’m a fan of Metal Gear Solid. A big fan. I’m also a fan of stealth as a genre but, in an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Kojima is claiming that Metal Gear Rising is not the kind of Metal Gear game fans are used to, and it’s a departure that some may struggle with.

“If somebody thinks ‘I love Snake’ and just really wants traditional stealth gameplay and that experience,” said Kojima, “then it may be hard to get into Rising, but for people who are more open and willing to try new things, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

“Raiden in MGS 4 was received very well, and I wanted to keep going with that direction in Rising. The people who liked him in 4 will like him in this, but it’s a personal preference.”

I was actually quite excited by the E3 demo that showed Raiden chopping up watermelons. Crazy as it may seem, it felt like the kind of tactile, responsive mechanic that I usually find rewarding. I love Metal Gear Solid for its delicate management of tension and stealth, but I also have faith that Kojima Productions is more than just a one-trick pony.

I’m a fan of Metal Gear Solid, and I’m a fan of stealth games, but I’m confident Metal Gear Rising is something I can “get into”.
