Nintendo Might Bring 2D Zelda Games Back In 3D

Ocarina of Time might not be the only Zelda game we see brought back to life on the 3DS. Nintendo talisman Shigeru Miyamoto has been thinking about bringing some older games to the handheld as well.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Zelda boss Eiji Aonuma said "Well actually, even Mr. Miyamoto himself has been talking recently about going back to the 2D Zelda games, in particular the ones that were designed with multiple levels to the world like A Link to the Past, and taking those 2D graphics and recreating them in 3D so that you could get a sense for the depth of those worlds."

"That's something that might be interesting to do, so I would say there might be a possibility of something like that in the future."

Note he doesn't mean recreate them entirely so they look like Ocarina or Wind Waker. He just means taking the 2D games and giving them a 3D effect. Which...might be cool, I guess, but how many times can people be expected to buy Link to the Past? SNES, Game Boy Advance, Virtual Console, there comes a time you've played a game enough, you know?

I wonder how Oracle of Seasons/Ages would look in 3D... and with orchestrated music.

I struggled with using the cape in a link to the past. Maybe 3d would give cape use a whole new look and feel.....

I'd rather have a full 3d conversion than a 3d effect, as i really dont think the games would feel much different, like in the pokemon series.

2D or 3D don't care just want Link to the Past on 3DS. (note) don't have a wii and don't plan to get one so can't get it on wii-ware

...and this is why Nintendo is struggling. Same old franchises, same old games. Time to move on people!

Aw c'mon, that's like saying they shouldn't ever re-release the Beatles White Album.

Link to the Past be damned, Link's Awakening is still the best 2D Zelda. Update that one!

I could play A Link to the Past everyday for the rest of my life and not get tired of it.
