The Cave Story Soundtrack Goes Heavy Metal

Cave Story already has a pretty damn good soundtrack, but as with all things, it can be improved by being dipped in liquid fire and rendered into heavy metal. Thankfully there’s Erik Peabody, who has released his new 7-track album “Made of Metal” upon the world.

It features “metal remixes honouring some of the most badass robots in video game history”, including four tracks from Cave Story. They are goofy and also they are very metal. On the album’s page, Peabody is credited with “all instrumentation”, which I take to mean that he recorded all of the tracks separately, including the drums. For which I say: My hat is off to you, sir!

The album is being released at a good time, considering that Cave Story 3D is landing on the 3DS. (our own Mike Fahey posted a video of it just last night).

Here it is, streaming from Bandcamp:

Three cheers for anyone who wants to make sweet-ass metal recordings of awesome video game music. As my friend Nervo kindly reminded me just this morning:

You can’t kill the metal
The metal will live on
Punk-rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were smite to the ground
New-wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal Ha, hahahahaha
They failed, as they were thrown to the ground
Aargh! yeah!

No-one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know

New-wave tried to destroy the metal, but the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal, but metal was in the way
Punk-rock tried to destroy the metal, but metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal, but techno was proven wrong
Yea!

Metal!
It comes from hell!

“Made of Metal” [bandcamp: shortcode must include ‘track’, ‘album’, or ‘video’ param]
