Was This Inevitable? The Tales Studio Is Dead

Lastyear, Tales producer Makoto Yoshizumi obliquely tweeted, "Meetings and conferences, sleepiness and struggle, it was a day of live or die." That day has come. The Tales Studio is no more.

The Namco Tales Studio is the developer behind Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Destiny and Tales of Vesperia. The studio was opened in 1986 and is a subsidiary of Namco Bandai. The Tales series has been spun off to anime with Tales of Vesperia: First Strike in late 2009.

Last year, it was revealed that the studio's debt has piled up so that it has surpassed the studio's total assets, making the developer insolvent. The Tails Studio accumulated a debt of $US21 million and posted an annual loss of $US1 million.

2010 was a rough year for the studio. Early that year, one Tales game was even recalled.

At the time, I thought no way would Namco shutter the Tales Studio. I was wrong. The studio will be dissolved and swallowed up by its parent company, Namco Bandai. The Tales Studio's story is over.

However, don't expect Namco to kill off Tales games. Expect more Tales games. Always expect Tales games.

Wishful thinking I know, but maybe now we the western gamer will see more Tales games. Not the odd one here and there.

Lets hope. I got my hands on any that have been released in the west so I'm doing my part dammit!

Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube was awesome. Surprised that wasn't mentioned in the article.

Only finished Syphonia and Vesperia (well not quite, at the last boss battle but he kicks my butt everytime because I can't outheal him in the 3rd phase devil weapons form)

Anyway, sad sad day. I wants me a new Tales game released in the west darn it. Haven't gotten my fix since Vesperia and I'm still waiting on a PS3 exclusive Tales

      didnt save the all devides?

Maybe.. just maybe Namco/Bandai will actually release a full version of a Tales game instead of releasing "beta" versions on one console (thanks for Vesperia guys! oh and Graces was *definitely* a well polished Wii Exclusive right there) and release a proper fully tested game.

If they want to add characters/scenarios then do the smart thing like NISA/IF and put out as DLC. Not freaking re-release the same game again on a different console
