What Are You Playing This Weekend?

I’ve had to make some big choices in my life, but this may be one of the biggest: Skyrim or Skyward Sword.

Nerd World Problems, right? But this is important! I haven’t always been sucked in by Bethesda RPGs, but Skyrim is a huge exception. I’m about 12 hours in and I’m starting to feel that very compulsive need to be be in that world. I want to start Skyward Sword more than anything, but I also want to experience Zelda without switching back and forth between Skyrim.

It’s a bit like a good book — you want to finish the one you started before moving on. But… I don’t want to feel pressure to finish Skyrim quickly, because it’s not that kind of game.

Like I said — Nerd World Problems.

My solution so far has been this — Super Mario 3D Land for my commute, Skyrim until I’m done. Skyward Sword has slowly become my most anticipated game of the year, so I want to light some candles and get romantic with that game. I’m happy to plug away at Skyrim until I get over it.

So I guess what I’m saying, in a roundabout way, is that I’ll be playing Skyrim this weekend. And holding off on Zelda.

Sob.

I’m going to be home alone for most of the weekend, so after I set up a network of crazy contraptions to keep the robbers at bay, I’m going to be playing ALL the games:
– Skyward Sword!
– Super Mario 3D Land!
– Arkham City (Finishing new game plus)!
– Rock Band 3 (Inspired by the Brisbane Meat people)
– Maybe something multiplayer on 360 if anybody has a suggestion?
– NOT Skyrim!

Nothing could stop me from playing Skyward Sword! Although I can see your point Mark…you really need to take the time and really enjoy a game like Zelda. Don’t want to be bouncing between 2 games.

        The story continues but sidetracks at the same time, it’s not really worth worrying about as it’s more of a prologue to ACIT.
        
        As it was originally a PSN game, length comes in at about 3-4 hours, so you won’t get lost with the story by moving past it, just wiki it.

I’ve play roughly 35 hours of Skyrim, but still feel like I’ve got a long ways to go due to my exploring the world find as many side quest as I can. But I’ve ignore the game all this week due to my mission to 100% finish Saints Row 3. So in a nutshell, I’ll be playing SR3 and probably Skyrim. 🙂

Skyward Sword has to wait until I give it to my daughter for Christmas.
I wish I’d been able to hold off on starting Skyrim until I’d finished Dark Souls though, switching between the two is getting me killed in Dark Souls.

But this weekend I will be playing Skyrim, sneaking off to slay dragons and hoard ALL THE STUFFS whenever I can escape the kids.

  Dito… I pushed so hard with Dark Souls in the weeks leading up to Skyrim, fully knowing that trying to play both was not going to work. I’m about 70 hours into Dark Souls and sadly have had to park it whilst I live and breath Skyrim… sad, I know. Can’t see myself playing anything else really until the Christmas holidays.

I was hoping I’d be able to get my copy of Cave Story 3D this week as well but unfortunately I’ve been told its been delayed until next week. Oh well I have 2 games which will be more than enough to give my 3DS some much needed love this weekend.

Also I’m really looking forward to the release of VVVVVV on the 3DS

    I’ve spent a lot of money the last few weeks on video games, and while I do admit this weeks purchases do seem to be a bit on the. . . ‘childish’ side, they do not discount the fact that preceding them I’ve bought games like Batman Arkham City, Battlefield 3, MW3 (impulse), Skyrim, Dark Souls, Forza 4 and so forth.
    
    I’m a fan of the WWE series and I think WWE 12 is one of the best games THQ and Yukes have released in recent memory. I am a long time sonic fan who thoroughly enjoyed Sonic Generations on the PS3 and Mario and Zelda are an incentive for me to play my neglected 3DS and Wii consoles as well as being great games in their own right. But why do I need to justify my purchases to you?

Bought Zelda but have to wait for the 25th of December to play that one so i will be playing SM3DL as a pre christmas compromise.

My big question is whether to play Skyward Sword after I bring it home… or to go back and dust off Twilight Princess, and finish that first.

I last played it back in January 2007, I was playing both Wii and GameCube versions, playing one leg on GCN, then the same on Wii, next one on Wii, same on GCN, etc, in an effort to test out which of the two was superior (answer: GameCube). Restored the light spirit at Lake Hylia, then got busy with something or other and never ended up getting back to it.

I guess the next question would be whether to continue the experiment, or just ditch the Wii version 😛

Well I finished Saints Row but I need to do a second playthrough for achievement purposes, as well as chasing 100% completion in my primary game.

However, I will also be trying to dedicate some time to finishing Assassin’s Creed Revelations so my wife can stop being mad at being unable to discuss the game with me (same thing happened last year with Brotherhood until I sat down and finished it in one 6-hour stretch).

There will also probably be some MW3 multiplayer.

If the weather brightens up, then I’ll be looking at buying a new edger, and thus trying to combat the forest that has developed because of the lack of edger! Probably mow the lawn also, maybe some weeding!

If it’s still crap, then will be trying to limit my gaming to AssRev and Saints Row 3 only, though LEGO Harry Potter 5-7 with the girlfriend is likely to pop up also.

Skyward Sword takes precedence over every other game, for me. Skyrim will just have to wait. I’ll probably end up just starting a new game when I get back around to it (as a Mage this time, the companions aspect of Skyrim really isn’t built with stealth characters in mind…)

Enslaved odyssey to the west. The controls are a bit hard to get used to but the game looks great so I’ll push on for a while. I like the concept of a green and colourful post-apocalyptic world instead of the drab brown worlds in many games.

All this gush about Ass:Rev has made me go out and buy AC2. I’ll give that a bit of a go. I’m still at the point where Ezio is an unarmed 17 year old so I don’t think the game has started yet.

But walking through the bustle of Florence and then climbing up a wall as the sounds of the crowd subsides behind me is becoming one of my favourite video game experiences so far.

Can’t believe I let the mediocre reviews of AC1 put me off the whole franchise for this long.

Also want to get to that “sweet spot” above level 15 in Battlefield3 where (I’m told) the game really starts to get fun.

Skyward Sword. No contest.

After buying Skyrim after the rest of the world wouldn’t shut up about it (was going to get it eventually, but the hype moved it forward). I haven’t really gotten into it like everyone else seems to.

Not saying I dislike it. It’s good. But after 20 hours everything just starts to blend into an indistinguishable blur. None of the stories really interest me that much so I’m just grinding through one encounter to the next not really caring. Character progression ground to a halt. And it’s just starting to feel like an MMO I’m playing by myself.

Skyward Sword on the other hand is feeling like my GOTY after 7 hours (or at least very close second to Portal 2). Now if I can just get through it without breaking my wrist. Still not a fan of Wii waggle controls even with motion+, my only complaint with the game.

Finish off grinding through the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations multiplayer for that lvl 20 achievement before I go back to the single player. Also hoping that this stress test for The Old Republic will be playable.

Kind of funny how nobody is playing Uncharted 3. Can anyone explain why Skyrim and Skyward Sword are the obvious gaming choices at the moment, and games like Uncharted are forgotten? My guess is that it’s just more of the same, whereas Skyrim and Skyward are fairly significant departures from the normal Elder Scrolls or Zelda games. Seriously can’t understand how a game can get a 10 on IGN and then nobody really cares about it. I have all three games (as well as MArio 3D land), but won’t even touch Uncharted 3 until Skyrim and Skyward are out of my system. Never been so compelled to keep playing two games in my life!

I understand so many of the hard choices on this blog, but like many others on this site i will hold off on Zelda until Christmas- It is the Christmas game at our house as well.
So this weekend i will be finishing ICO and commencing SOTC
Thoroughly enjoying ICO for the first time. I can understand why the reviewers we so entranced. I just wish they had updated the camera control on this updated version – even though its so old, it is still so great just to look around.

Zelda Skyward Sword no question. Got my copy yesterday with the gold remote, but was way too tired to start it yesterday. Im gonna give it my full attention tonight, cant wait!
I also have my Rayman Origins CE waiting to be picked up so I mite give that a try too, it looks fantastic

Got Skyrim yesterday. I haven’t even installed it yet. It sits there in the living room as I type – it calls to me, taunts me to use it.

“Play with me”, I can hear it calling. “All you have to do is set a time limit. Play with me for thirty minutes, it won’t be too bad.”
I continue with my typing, hoping concentrating on my work will make the call fade into the background, but it makes the situation worse.
“Remove the disc and play me”, it says. “Go on. Did you know I have a nice soft cloth map of the land you can view on? You like maps, don’t you?”
I get sweaty, the hands barely typing as I finally gaze on the inert black box on the living room table.
“Look at what I have”, it says as if to torment me further. “You’ve got the 700-page tome of things to do, why don’t you… play with me a while.”

The horror. The absolute horror.

Since I have already sunk 150 odd hours into Skyrim and Skyward Sword is sitting on my pile of shame untill I go out and purchase a new Wii. I’ll be playing SW:TOR Beta one it unlocks at 2am.

Given the incessant rain (190mm and counting this month, with 100 of that dropping this week), my deck won’t be built and the grass will remain unmowed. I will still attend a few auctions tomorrow though.

Regardless, more Dark Souls is on the agenda, though probably PvP in arena 1 (or is it 2? Anor Londo in any event) this time around. So if you to lose some souls and/or humanity, MEET ME SOMEWHERE.

I have also had a desire to play the first Wii Rayman Raving Rabbids in coop with my partner, will scratch that itch also.

Skyrim. Every day I can’t wait to finish work so I can go home and play Skyrim. No other game in recent memory has affected me like that.

Well, the new rig has been set up so time to get cracking on The Witcher 2 I think.

But i know whats going to happen. I’ll will sit at my desk, go to open The Witcher and will see SC2 and there goes my weekend, happens everytime =)

Anyone else use a ASUS GTX570? Im really happy with so far so just wanna know if anyone else has an opinion on it.

Looking for a new house, picking up my new Bravia and SKYRIM!

Just hitting level 25. My she-mage and her cat-mage companion are currently wandering aimlessly around the volcanic wastes north of Rifton, looking for trouble. It’s awesome. I’m finally starting to get powerful enough to take down pretty much everything, so long as I think things through…

It’s been SO FREAKING LONG since I was this enamoured by a gaming experience. Screw multiple playthroughs, I’m going to try and do EVRYTHING, even if it is virtually impossible ;P

  ^This post makes me happy. I am glad there are so many people who feel so fondly for Skyrim. Such an awesome gaming experience. It has been too long since I have found myself able to simply turn on a game and run around a world with no plan/aim/direction/purpose and just get lost in the vastness.
  
  I also hope it is possible, as it is what I am aiming to do on my sneaky archer 😀

Skyward Swoooooooooooord is awesome! I’ll probably still be playing StarCraft 2 multiplayer too, as usual. But I’m having an absolute blast with Skyward Sword!

Skyrim.

Can’t bring myself to play Zelda again for a long time. By far the most overrated series in gaming in my opinion.

Skyrim for sure… just starting to get into it a bit more.. its all starting to make sense.. but dont want to rus it.

Will also check out Portal 2 (thanks steam) and then some Trials 2se and perhaps MW3 and thats about it…

Might continue some Anno 1404 and some Sins of a Solar Empire.

Refusing to continue to play Skyrim or MW3 or any other game in my steam list until the net is hooked up at our new place.. :/ I can wait another 6 days :3 Can’t I? o.O :O

Since my WWE 12 STILL hasn’t shipped, playing Saints Row close up to 100% then jumping in and out of MW3 until i get WWE. After i can dedicate all the time to MGS3 and Skyrim

Definately go with Skyward Sword. I got it and haven’t looked back. You think Skyrim is a time sink-hole? Just wait until you start playing Skyward Sword. It’s extremely easy to get lost in the world and have the same drive to go and save Zelda that Link has.

I almost called off sick to work after I realised I had been playing it for four hours and had left myself only 15 minutes to get ready for work.

Battlefield 3 on 360
Skyrim on PC
Zelda Skyward Sword on Wii
Sonic Generations on PS3
Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D on 3DS
UFC Trainer on Kinect for 360

Recently purchased Fallout New Vegas on Steam for 10 bucks, so wanna give that a try soon.

While my wallet is doing OK for now, I need a time machine to stop everything and just finish all these DAMN GAMES!!!
