Atlus Pokes The PSP In 2012 With Gungnir

Don’t throw away that PSP just yet! Even though the PS Vita is coming out in February, Atlus is prepared to rock the Previous Sony Portable with Norse-flavored strategy RPG Gungnir, coming June 12 to retail and the PlayStation Network. Oh wait, it’ll be on PSN? Go ahead and throw out your PSP.

From the makers of Riviera, Yggdra Union, and Knights in the Nightmare comes Gungnir, another impossible-to-pronounce game from the publisher that refuses to modify names for the sake of marketing. Why I bet not even Atlus’s own Aram Jabbari knows how to pronounce it, and I wouldn’t believe him if he said he did. At least they trimmed it down from the Japanese title, Gungnir: Inferno of the Demon Lance and the War of Heroes.

For those of you up on your Norse mythology, Gungnir is the name of Odin’s spear, a weapon that falls from the sky and winds up in the possession of freedom fighters from the Resistance, struggling to free their country from some sort of oppression. Armed with a weapon capable of reshaping worlds, I’d say they’re going to succeed.

Promising a deep strategic combat system with plenty of numbers to keep your mind busy, Gungnir sounds like the perfect way to end your relationship with the PSP, especially if you bought it just to play the sort of wacky shit Atlus likes to bring over from Japan.
