Battlefield 3 Captures Google's Zeitgeist

Rebecca Black, Google+, Ryan Dunn and... Battlefield 3?

Google just released their survey of top search terms for 2011, and Battlefield 3 holds the number five spot for one of the fastest-rising search terms in the world.

The Electronic Art's shooter beat out the iPhone 5, songstress Adele, Japan's evacuated (TEPCO) Fukushima I Plant, Steve Jobs and the iPad 2 to land its five spot.

Rebecca Black was the fastest rising search term on Google this year, followed by Google+, Ryan Dunn and Casey Anthony, the mother acquitted in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

How did Battlefield 3 manage to jump so high up in the charts? Raw numbers. Searches for "Battlefield 3" and "BF3" jumped 1,773 per cent between 2010 and 2011. The search term peaked in popularity the week of Oct. 23, when EA's shooter launched in the U.S. and U.K.

The rise in Battlefield 3 searches brought with it a rise in loosely connected search terms like "beta battlefield 3", "battlefield 2", "battlefield 3 pc", "download battlefield 3", and "battlefield 3 release."

It looks like Battlefield 3 rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 didn't make any of the Google Zeitgeist 2011 global lists.

Yay Battlefield! The only problem is most of my searches were related to problems that I keep having online and information on the neverending release of patches to (try and) fix them.

I should note that I own a copy for the PS3... I know, it serves me right, PC's rule the earth etc.

Yeah I have a feeling the majoroty would be regarding issues, however the BETA was a hot topic for when it launched

Rebecca Black; a spit in the face for all struggling singers with talent. Google+; a mediocre social network. Ryan Dunn; a complete and utter waste due to sheer stupidity. Casey Anthony; a horrendous being who should be wiped off the face of the earth. iPhone 5; not yet released but bound to be another piece of shit portrayed as solid gold. Adele; one of the very few people to become a big music star when they can't even pitch shift without cracking their voice let alone hold a note. Fukushima; a terrible disaster. Stever Jobs; world's greatest snake oil salesman and the iPad 2; the worst tablet of it's price range.

Throw Bad Company 3 in there and BAM. You got yourself one helluva top 10.

Thanks, I'll be here all week
