Dirt Returns, Only It’s Missing A Few Things

I’m going to tell you a secret. My favourite racing series of this generation has been neither Gran Turismo nor Forza. It’s been Codemaster’s Dirt series. A new game in the franchise should be cause for joy, then, but, well. Hrm.

The next game isn’t Dirt 4. It is, as GameSpot describes it, “an arcade-style spin-off that takes the extreme-sports elements of Dirt 2, mixes in the Gymkhana events from Dirt 3, and then throws in some Destruction Derby action for good measure.”

Handling has been changed to make the thing feel more arcade-like, there’s online multiplayer but also two-player splitscreen as well.

So it’s Dirt, but it’s not Dirt.

That’s all the information we have, aside from the fact it’s available on PC, PS3 and 360 in May. Presumably as a downloadable title, given the timeframe.

Dirt Showdown [GameSpot]

  • Hated the extreme-sports from Dirt2, and the Gymkhana from Dirt3, though did enjoy the Destruction Derby from Dirt1…not sure whether I’ll get this. Wish they would dedicate one to just rally.

  • This game went down hill once Ken Block got involved.
The 1st one was awesome, the 2nd was horrid, the 3rd was ok.
Rally is what this game should be about.

  • Come back to me when they announce Dirt 4 and that it’ll be just like Dirt 2 because that’s been the best of the lot by far.

  • Dudes, this is off the hook! More totally wicked sick Dirt action we can upload to youtube my amigos! We’ll take some tricked out rides and blast around the pumping courses where the road is hot and the action is even hotter.
