New Xbox Dash Is Stopping Users Going Online

Ever since the release of Microsoft's new dashboard the other week, some unlucky users have been unable to get their consoles back online, something the company is promising to "resolve ... as soon as possible".

"We have recently identified an Xbox Live profile data error that results in Error Code '801540B7' for a small number of Xbox Live members", an Xbox representative told Joystiq. "The error instructs users to attempt to re-download their Xbox Live profile and directs them to customer service support for further assistance. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to our loyal Xbox Live members and are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible."

The consoles are being kept offline by an inability to sign their profiles into Xbox Live, which means they're not just being kept out of multiplayer games, they're being locked out of some purchased content as well.

It's not the first problem to pop up with the new dashboard; people who watch a lot of video content have found that the console's capabilities in that regard have gone downhill as well.

I'm glad it's not happening for me. But I'd be pretty mad if it was and it still wasn't fixed. This isn't good enough, especially for a paid-for premium service.

I agree that this is absolutely terrible since we pay for this and if, like my mates do, you have you xbox as your television essentially, it makes it difficult to justify (and of course foxtel don't believe it)

That being said, in the past when I've had issues with my Live, I've been credited an extra month (for like 2 days of outage) so I'm sure Xbox (or Microsoft) will do something the credit those locked out once it is all sorted

This. Whilst it's a major pita for those who can't get online, Microsoft always hand out pretty decent compensation.

I've said this before and I'll say it again:

With Microsoft's lack of decent service, MASS EFFECT is the only thing keeping me with my XBOX. If I could transfer the completed ME1/ME2 save to the PS3, I'd HAVE DONE SO.

PAYING FOR TONS OF ADVERTS. What the fuck?! I thought we left TV because XBOX offered us shelter from shitloads of ads?!

I'd be happier if they where adds for games and not adds for Cars.

Also I don't like the fact I can't just select a friend and press Y to invite to party, it was a small thing but it was so useful for gathering your group before a game.

Cable TV you pay for ads...

Y u not yell at cable tv for ads as well?

Because its TV. The ads would go down better if they were at least gaming related.

Who cares? You get the most consistent and stable online service and whenever something goes wrong you get generously compensated. So what's the big deal? Sure you can go PS3 and get a free online service but when shit hits the fan it needs to be one of the biggest breaches in online security ever that lasts several weeks to get compo that barely rivals MS's compo for a 4 day outage.
