Meet the Arnold family of Frankfort, Illinois, a five-person powerhouse of pure Pokémon battling power. This championship winning team stars in the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2012 as the Largest Competitive Pokémon Video Game Family.
I should really say re-meet the Arnold’s, as the family was the subject of a feature I wrote after visiting the 2010 Pokémon regionals in Atlanta. Brothers Ryan and David, sister Grace, and father Glen dominated the event I attended, while mother Linda stood on the sidelines and cheered them on, a task made somewhat more difficult when Glen and David faced-off for a top spot in the competition’s Senior Division.
The family continues to dominate the circuit, and now they’re some of the stars of the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2012, released today in North America. The book does a lovely job of making up new records to fit specific situations, so the Arnolds were a perfect fit.
Hopefully their inclusion won’t spark some sort of feud with a rival Pokémon-playing family. My own clan is only four strong, and two of them are more prone to chewing on Pokémon than playing with them, so I’d say the Arnolds have a few years to shore up their defenses. Then we’re coming for them.
