Building BioShock, StarCraft & God Of War Characters

We usually feature the work of men and women on Fine Art who design characters. Today, we'll look at someone who actually builds them.

Johnny Xiao has worked on series like StarCraft, Killzone, The Witcher, BioShock, God of War and even Fallout, turning a whole bunch of polygons into characters you love, hate or just unapologetically shoot in the face.

Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists. If you're in the business and have some concept, environment or character art you'd like to share, drop us a line!

    pretty cool art

The people who do this work should have their names up there with the Cliff's and Randy's of the game industry. Would be even better if Kotaku could get some facetime with these guys. Talk about the programs and hardware they use, how they learnt their trade and so on. Maybe even tips and tricks?

Mark, Tracey? Any aussie folk on your rolodex (rolodexi? I dunno the plural term for it) who you could call?

They would be big-name were it not for the fact that there are a huuuuge amount of them, all just as skilled as the other.

I personally would appreciate it if a larger variety of artists were recognised here, as I think there are too many to have only a couple acknowledged.

If there is a huge amount of them "all just as skilled as the other" then why do so many games look shit when compared to those who take the engine in use and push it to extremes.

Look at games like Skyrim or DXHR...both games are graphically hideous. As are many others.

We should also do things on the programmers of Games.

I can model pretty well, but texturing is lost on me.
Modellers are architects, texture artists are goddamn magicians.
