Community Kudos

It’s Friday the 13th. Seems like a lot of people totally forgot about that, which is probably a good thing. There’s one thing I couldn’t possibly forget, however, and that is Community Kudos.

I don’t really mind Friday the 13th. My birthday is on May 13th. I actually turned 13 on Friday the 13th. I don’t really like the movie Friday the 13th, though. Well, the original is alright, but the sequels totally suck.

Aaaaannnyyway. Onto the noms.

Chuloopa won the last two CKs in a row, so he can’t win this one, but I will say, as we approach the end of the Kotaku Kristmas Project, that all the kudos and the props this man has been given are supremely well deserved.

Noms took a while to get going this week. The first came from Shane.

This email is mainly to give you my Kudos nom for this week. Just one nomination, and it’s to

Freeze S. Preston Icequire

Here’s why:

• Chuloopa probably shouldn’t get it three weeks running 😛
• FSPI has an awesome handle.
• He got in a brawl with a biker, which puts a new sheen of awesome on everything.
• He’s playing through Dark Souls using only his fists, and came up with a theme song for his write-up:

“When you hear that bellowing sound
It’s advised you hit the ground
And if you start to feel a bit seedy
It’s already too late, It’s Doug McCreedy

“Whit ur ye lookin’ at, numpty?””

I haven’t had the chance to read through the write-up yet, but you can start here!

Nova sent in a lovely little nomination for Scree — just because she’s always really nice to talk to and doesn’t win anything!

THE KING OF KOTAKU Chuloopa sent in a really nice nom as well, for Greenius. Greenius wrote one of the most touching comments I’ve ever seen on Kotaku AU and reading it reminds me of all that is great about this place.

Two more nomination emails left, and both were of the ‘I’M GOING TO NOMINATE EVERYONE‘ ilk! I kinda like those ones a lot. Truly it was pioneered by Strange.

And speaking of Strange — no noms this week from her. STRANGE ARE YOU OKAY? IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT?

Anyway, Scree, who was nominated herself, actually put together an interesting tale that circled around her wanting to play Dark Souls, which I will now quote in full…

I only have one Nomination this time, which is strange for me, I know.

But it is a doozy.

After a long discussion on TAY as to whether I should get Dark souls or Demon souls first, Freeze S. Preston Icesquire went over it all in his head before deciding Demon’s souls was best to get first. I remember the voucher that Chuloopa had given to ever participant of Kotaku Kristmas Project and promptly bought demon’s souls.

It was then I realised that there was a special edition. I am a sucker for special editions. I looked on Ebay and asked the awesome guys at Gametraders but couldn’t find anything reasonable.

Shane found a pre-owned copy on Amazon, but I didn’t have the money at the time so I bookmarked it and hoped I’d be able to afford it soon.

The next day on TAY BDKIAF noticed all the Demon’s souls talk and offered the Art book and CD.

To cut a longish story short, I felt I had offended BDKIAF and had asked too much of him. Despite this he was still willing to give me the art book, CD and now also the game.

So I would like to change it to 3 nominations. 1 to Chuloopa for organising KKP, one for Shane for finding the impossible and of course the main one, BDKIAF for being an all round awesome nice guy. =D

Sincerely,
Scree.

Finally I got this awesome email from Pixel the Ferret King…

just wanted to hand some of these particular nommy noms out like all the cool kids do…
First i want to nom Rize, because he’s been gifting me a lot of stuff and is generally less annoying then most other people on the internet….
i also want to nom BDKIAF, because he’s a magnificent bastard and i look forward to the all out Educational IT melee that’s going to take place at anzac parade at some point…
thirdly i’d like to nom Strange… always nice to talk to and good hearted, i don’t think she gets enough noms…

my last one, is not so much a nom as an all out plead….
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE just make Chuloopa the king of Kotaku and winner of the Kudos prize for the rest of the year? that man has worked his arse off for the last couple of months with this KKP, earning not only my respect, but also falling far behind in his studies… frankly the fact that there’s no 10 meter tall statue of Loops in a Space Marine armor erected in the Kotaku office is something that should be rectified…
or start a religion… which ever

anyway that’s my 2 cents… actually more like 5 cents because 2 cent coins don’t exist anymore HAHA silly me

Look, I don’t think I can give Chuloopa Community Kudos for three weeks in a row, but here’s what I’m doing. I’m making Chuloopa the official KING OF KOTAKU. You know how the Queen is technically the head of state despite the fact that the Prime Minister actually is in charge of kinda running the country? Well this is the relationship. I, as Editor of Kotaku, am serving a term — but Chuloopa’s position is pretty much solid until he dies or abdicates or something.

I guess that makes Chuloopa Queen Elizabeth and me Julia Gillard. I don’t know how I feel about that.

This week, however, I’m going to give Kudos to Greenius — mainly because he really expressed perfectly the way I feel about this place.

Congrats Greenius, and I hope you all have a good weekend!
