2011 is over. So let’s look back at last year and suss out what the 10 biggest games in Japan were.

Japanese sales tracker Media Create tracked the sales for the period between January 3, 2011, and January 1, 2012.

Here goes:

6. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd PSP: 682,651

3. Monster Hunter 3G 3DS: 985,498
2. Super Mario 3D Land 3DS: 1,080,192

  • Wait… why is this different to the list I saw yesterday, geez can’t remember where now, thought it was Kotaku >_>
    Just remember no. 10 was Dark souls and it made me happy 🙁

    • That was IGN’s list, which was a weird list in that it was ranked, but was only a selection of games. Dark Souls was in the 300,000 range. It’s not quite monster hunter in terms of popularity, though I can imagine if the series continues it’ll do well in Japan.

    • It’s not just that 3DS took off, it’s because there is little great games available currently, so everyone with a 3DS is buying them.

      I know I’ve bought nearly all decent games on the 3DS currently… and some not so decent games 😛
