Pokémon On iTunes. Hello Scam!

While Pocket Monsters company GameFreak brought its monsters to iTunes last summer with Pokémon Say Tap?, this is not that app. Rather, this app is from "The House of Anime" and Daniel Burford. The hell?

A quick iTunes search shows that this is the same outfit responsible for app versions of Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh, including a "Pokemon Yellow" app. All three of these apps were uploaded between Feb. 16 and Feb 17.

"Pokemon Yellow" is currently number three on the top paid apps. Good thing Apple is monitoring this! Oh. Wait.

Digimon is Bandai's Pocket Monster rival, and Yu-Gi-Oh! is Konami's property. Pokémon, however, is handled by GameFreak and Nintendo. Unless these apps are official, The House of Anime handles screwing them all.

The "Pokemon Yellow" app's description reads:

★★★★★ "Just like the Original. Love it!"

It's Finally Arrived!

Pokémon Yellow is here!

Your very own Pokémon legend is about to begin!

Press Quotes:

✔ "Fantastic and addictive gameplay. Six stars." 5/5

✔ "Just like the original. Only better because you can play it on the most intuitive device ever - the iPhone." 5/5

✔ "Hundreds of hours of gameplay, fun and collecting all Pokémon. Great app from Home of Anime."

The reviews for the app tell a very different story. The app doesn't work at all, apparently. According to faustino angel's one star review, "I want my money back if I don't get it I'm going to sue the person who made this application this just a rip off lying to us of what it contains!"

Chewybaka 0508 added, "...this is a scam. Crashes after main screen."

Something tells me that Daniel Burford's very own Pokémon lawsuit is about to unfold!

im so sick of these scam apps... I wish they would just go to hell

    Gullible! Gotta Cash 'Em Checks!

You'd have to be stupid to fall for this.

While I'm sorry for those out iff pocket, I hope the sales numbers show Gamefreak and Nintendo a new market. Seems like mivile devices are pretty perfect for the whole "travel with your friends" theme with the gps support. Don't imagine it would be easy, but a generalised terrain database with a random starter, instead if a choice of three sounds like a pretty nice jump forward

Nintendo will never release a Triple A game on Android/IOS/anythingthatisn'taNintendoconsole until they let their hardware business die.

      maybe that was the plan?

Fact is that if nintendo refused to put in the effort to port all it's first part titles for the 3DS by the end of it's first year it's unlikely they are going to do so for mobile devices.

The only reason I still use my DSlite is because my M3 allows me to have a copy of every gameboy game I have had since the original and play them at will

I don't care if nintendo want to charge me for these games again just make them bloody available to buy in the first place

    If only...

I always read reviews first, even on just regular non-licensed games. These people are idiots.

Also, iPokedex has been taken down, yet this is up? Life has no meaning :(

I just checked to see if it is still there, and it's now #1.

I'm actually more shocked at Bashcraft writing more than a couple of sentences than the scam itself

You're kidding, right? Some of the best material on Kotaku is written by Bashcraft.

        HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

        Pics or it didn't happen

        this comment made my day
