Microsoft: The New Xbox Won't Be Shown At This Year's E3

Microsoft's saying that the successor to the Xbox 360 won't be the star of the show at 2012's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon. For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it's the best year ever for Xbox 360. The console is coming off its biggest year ever — a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide. Xbox 360 didn't just outsell other consoles, it also outsold all other TV-connected devices like DVD players, as well as digital media receivers and home theatre systems. And in our seventh year, we sold more consoles than in any other year-defying convention.

This year, we will build on that Xbox 360 momentum. With Halo 4, Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey and other great Kinect games on the way, our 2012 Xbox lineup is our strongest ever. This year, we will deliver more TV, music, and movie experiences for Xbox 360-as we'll make it even easier to find and control your all entertainment. And this year, Xbox games, music and video are coming to Windows 8 so people can enjoy their Xbox entertainment wherever they go.

Does this mean I can finally play Mass Effect 3 on my PC using a game pad?
So no new Xbox for at least 18 months to 2 years, I'm booking in to cryogenics.

Can't you already do that in the PC version?

I swear in the PC version of ME2 it was compatible with the 360 controller. Most PC games are.

Isnt ME3 out on PC anyway?

ME3 is out on pc but dosnt support game pad.I played the first 2 on the 360 but would perfer the better graphics of the pc version with the controls of the console version.
Oh and my 360 was stolen about a year ago so save games sadly arnt an issue.

Well that sucks how it doesn't support a controller. Hopefully some kindly modder will release a solution.

They could announce it at their January event next year, and have it on sale by Christmas...
Not saying I believe them though...

well looks like e3 2012 will be the most boring ever... disappointed... now if sony were smart they could use this and slap a concept together and get everyone on thier band wagon and steal the show if they want. but it will more than likely be another motion control pushed e3 focusing on 7 year old hardware. gay

Um the Wii U will be out in force with actual GAMES.Not every E3 has a new console you know, the Wii U might not be a power house but is better than any current console.

"a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide" translation "the year most peoples original xboxes broke down and had to replace them."

Thats the problem with '10 year' lifecycles. Its obvious microsoft want to squeeze every last bit of profit from the 360 (which is understandable) All console manufacturers should stick to 5 year console lifecycles instead of trying to make a console to compete with a PC(both sony and microsoft are in debt attempting to have this uber 10 year consoles and have sustained massive debts to do so which they have just recently started to turn a profit), which in the scheme of things in pointless because the PCs gonna (sooner rather then later) reclaim the performance crown.

Instead of trying to beat the PC why not provide experiences you cant have on a PC (Wiimote, Kinect, move and Wii U Controller) and make it affordable. Thats the best way to differentiate your self instead of trying to compete in something that they can never hope to win (Graphics)

Remember technology these days improves every year (or even less) why are we having consoles that last 7-10 years (well i know why - to turn a profit)?

well i don't know about you but a console on a 5 year life cycle is redundant. the point of a long life cycle is for those that don't have the money to update a PC regularly. by moving it to a shorter span they are in retrospect becoming more PC-like . and your last statement is just ignorant. without profit a company can't survive and you wouldn't have all the products you enjoy. yes its big business but i am happy with my xbox and its long life cycle. want something shorter then stick to PCs

Way to put a dent into my E3 2012 enthusiasm, Microsoft. Its time to move on. I think a Wii U might be in the cards for me, to savor that new console feeling. Still plenty of cool games coming out for 360/PS3. Its just the consoles are really showing there age when put up against the PC. Also the fact that Microsoft and Sony get everyone hyped up by showing PC video and pics and pass them off as the console versions, really irritates me!

I've heard that it won't have a disk drive.... So its either memory cards or digital media and if they think they will sell that at the full £40(live in the UK, this is hte only site I can get on at work gaming related) then I will be passing on the next xbox and resuming my past time as a PC gamer and forgetting all about the consoles. Other than playing games on it, I use my xbox to stream media and that can be done alot cheaper these days and works better too....
