The Most Horrifying Moments In Gaming (For A Ten-Year-Old In The 90s)

My love for video games started when my dad bought a Super Nintendo home in the mid 90s. But as much fun as I had playing then, my young, impressionable brain was also scarred by a handful of gaming moments that left an indelible mark on my psyche. Even if those moments don't scare me anymore, I remember the first time I saw each one of them play out, and the effect it had on me later.

Watch the video above to see what I'm talking about.

I remember not wanting to swim in the deep end of my grandmother's pool because I could very vividly picture Clanker from Banjo-Kazooie swimming around down there.

"But Nick!," you might tell me, "Clanker was peaceful! He was a good guy!"

My 10-year-old brain didn't care. He was an enormous metal shark that could swallow a bear without any trouble, imagine what he could do to me.

I'll be the first to admit that I was kind of a wimpy kid. Hopefully someone else was also freaked out by some of the moments in this video. Anyone?

wheres the zombie dogs jumping through the windows in Resident Evil?

How about the one at the front door of the mansion. That scared the shit out of me!

Oh my god, I jumped so much whenever that happened

I sh%# myself - not from the video but from the journalistic articulation demonstrated. The sheer amount of work hours and overpowering intelligence displayed in this inciteful coaxing of discussion made me spontaneously s#$t this post out.

The Spanish castle in Terranigma still creeps me out, with the portraits with the missing eyes.....

oh god! I had nightmares of that place. The sam portraits are even scarier after you put the eyes in them.

The giant fish from ape escape

The mutant zombie baby in parasite eve 2!

Was this guy scared of his own breakfast cereal too?

Mortal Kombat came out in 1992, not 1994.

First time I saw Goro come on screen with his freaky face and 4 arms I cried... I was 6 lol

The music and atmosphere of Big Boos Haunt from SM64 scared the crap out of me.

I'm 25 years old. I've seen some scar shit in my life, but for some reason, Big Boos Haunt STILL freaks me out.

i didn't swim in rivers or streams for a while when I was 7 cos i thought the Piranha's from Piranha would constantly appear and eat me...even in Australia.
...so when they did and I died it was quite a shock.

I remember the butcher, he freaked me out as well

The diving hand from Zelda:OOT always scared me, hell that temple in general was scary.

Early Final Fantasy 7 when Sephiroth comes to the Shinra building to bust out Jenova... >.<

    You're missing
Alone in the Dark (Most Parts),
The zombie scream/robot alert from SQ4,
    Shadow of the Comet

    Ps1 Men in Black

Took days just to figure out how to get into the first room. Then after doing a couple task in said room a horrid shadow appeared outside the window. Threw the controller and never played it again.

Bram Stoker's Dracula for the SNES. All of it. Most of you haven't played it or did at an older age. Playing it as a kid was a scarring experience.

I'm posting on a 3 day old article...but screw it.

The moment the black beast first jumped down in Another World....shit my pants. Returned the game to the store. Didn't play it again for maybe 2 years.

Super Mario 64. Piano. That's it.

The first time i jumped in the water in treasure trove cove in banjo kazooie and a shark chased me; shat my pants. Trying to swim through the chain links of clanker's cavern; shat my pants. First time i ran accross hyrule field and the undead appeared; shat my pants. EVERY time i approach a face-humpy zomibie in ocarina of time; shat my pants.

    So many memories...
